White Sox on verge of slipping into another first-round rut
Jack Parkman replied to Jack Parkman's topic in FutureSox Board
Do you blame them? Outside of one glorious season, every move they have made over the last 20 years has blown up in their faces. At this point, I want KW to GTFO. Hahn can go with him, for all I care. -
White Sox on verge of slipping into another first-round rut
Jack Parkman replied to Jack Parkman's topic in FutureSox Board
100% agreed. I wouldn't hesitate to trade anyone other than Eloy or Moncada to be honest. See earlier posts about my thoughts on Moncada. Even though I like Kopech and Cease, they both have an injury history and it just seems pitchers get injured lately, and it seems the SP is becoming less and less important in modern day baseball. Every one of the Sox young players a season in or behind and 4-5 SP out of their group have to hit for them to get anywhere close to the big boys in the AL. They might even be able to make the playoffs as Cleveland ages, but at this point I'd say the Sox are far from favorites to be the next ALC juggernaut. A good draft or two, and the Tigers or Royals could pass the Sox quickly. -

Tbh guys I want to, but I can't stay away. I was serious when I made that thread. Maybe I will take a break from posting. -

White Sox on verge of slipping into another first-round rut

Not sure tbh. If they do, I'd imagine it is now in the back end, in the around 9 or 10. I don't see Collins as a prospect. I think Basabe, Adolfo and Gonzalez are prospects, but more in the borderline range. I don't know what to make of Rutherford and Robert, as their lack of power is massively disappointing. I see both as similar to Avi Garcia when he was acquired. Both are supposed to have power, but they don't show it in games. Dunning and Hansen are complete wildcards based on health and lack of progression respectively. If Dunning blows out his elbow next season, he becomes a nonfactor. Same with Hansen if he doesn't stay healthy and find the strike zone. Both are entering their age 24 season and haven't been past AA. I just feel the Sox system is super top heavy with not much after that. Their top guys have to hit, otherwise they're screwed. You have Cease, Kopech and Eloy, with Moncada at the MLB level. Otherwise, I'm a huge skeptic on the rest of the system. I don't think much of Giolito and Lopez anymore. I guess keep running them out there. There is minimal hope on both. Madrigal seems to be a relic of baseball times gone by. Think Juan Pierre. -

Nah, I'm ok. Let's see if players stay healthy and improve next year. -
White Sox on verge of slipping into another first-round rut

Wait until the 2019 farm rankings come out. I'd be surprised if they were top 5, and I think they're going to end in the 8-10 range on national lists. Too many players took a significant step backward or lost development time to injuries. I'd probably rank them about middle of the pack, in the 12-15 range. -
White Sox on verge of slipping into another first-round rut
Jack Parkman replied to Jack Parkman's topic in FutureSox Board
They didn't, but I think they are likely to end up there again from sheer prospect attrition. Not every player is going to work out, and if they end up with enough bad players from this group. I'm not sure they have a top 10 farm anymore. Outside of Eloy, Cease and Kopech, who is out for 2019, I'm not sure they have another starter in the mix. I have to see more from Madrigal. Robert seems like a looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane guy. I think they're likely to end up maxing out in the 73-78 win range again by 2022 just out of sheer prospect attrition. If they wanted to trade anyone outside of Moncada, Kopech, Cease and Eloy this offseason, I couldn't complain. Moncada is one of those guys that if he's going to disappoint, he has to do it here. They should ride out his entire pre-arb years like Texas did with Profar. The upside if it all clicks is just way too high. -
https://www.soxmachine.com/2018/10/17/white-sox-on-verge-of-slipping-into-another-first-round-rut/ Margalus makes a really good point about the Sox not drafting well again. Even though I think rebuilding was the right thing to do, it just seems like this isn't going to work. They might get a few players, but it seems they are going to end up right back where they started in 2016 with a stars/scrubs roster. I need a beer.

How much $/years would you offer Eovaldi?
Jack Parkman replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm convinced Eovaldi is going to get a deal similar to Samardzija. 5/90. I don't want the Sox to go anywhere near that. Eovaldi might get 5/100 Everyone thinking he's going to have to take a 4/48 or 3/42 are mistaken. He's the 3rd best option on the market after Kershaw and Corbin. If Kershaw stays in LA, then he's the second best option. Dude is going to get paid, and the team that pays him is going to regret it. But this is coming from a guy who thinks that most FA contracts in baseball and hockey end up hurting their team far more than helping them. If you're ok with having a payroll that approaches the luxury tax, be my guest. By the time a player reaches FA, their best years are most likely behind them. Machado and Harper are notable exceptions. For the most part, I only wish to dumpster dive in FA. -
Because he sucks at framing and that is more important with a young pitching staff. If you want an offensive catcher and you're ok with him costing your pitching staff strikes, be my guest with Narvaez, but otherwise, his defense and receiving are bad enough to outweigh his offensive contributions, especially with a young staff. He's more valuable to another team than he is to the Sox. Narvaez is a weird player, and I don't know how any team would value him.
-
I would too, but it seems they're going to play him in a corner OF spot. As long as they have somewhere on the field to play him, he's going nowhere. It was a nice idea while it lasted.

Hoffman is out of options and is a reclamation project, and Tapia is struggling to get playing time there, and is sort of a reclamation project as well, as he'll be 25 on OD 2019 and hasn't established himself as a big leaguer. . (he only played 25 games in Colorado this year) Narvaez is actually good offensively(or had a good year), and the Rockies need a catcher. Both Hoffman and Tapia are distressed assets so to speak. I wouldn't include Tapia, except that Adam Engel is still hanging around here. If the Rockies aren't going to trade Gray for that, then they aren't a fit. I would not under any circumstances trade a real prospect other than a borderline one for Jon Gray. He could be really good or really bad out of Coors.
-
Narvaez might put up big numbers for a C playing 81 games in Coors. Not in HR, but in 2B, Avg and RBI. It is really reasonable if you ask me. He's not good for a young pitching staff. If the Rockies are amenable, I might expand to include Hoffman and Tapia coming back to the Sox along with Gray. Think something like Leury or Sanchez and another player with upside on the 40 man that the Sox are going to have a hard time keeping around. Maybe someone like Vieira or Fulmer.
-
If he's an OF, it is logjam related. He's a plus defender at 3B. They were going to play him at 2B until he got injured toward the end of ST and Gennett had a huge year.
-
Suarez is signed on a Rizzo/Sale sweetheart deal. The ink is barely dry. He's going nowhere. They might be more willing to trade Gennett than Senzel, but idk.
-
One of the three. It does, but Senzel a) just missed an entire season and b) is blocked by Suarez and Gennett. If they can unlock Rodon, I think they would be more willing to sign him long-term at Boras' price than the Sox would.
-
I wouldn't want to trade Rutherford for Gray either. I wouldn't want to trade a real prospect for either Jon or Sonny Gray. This may be unpopular, but I'd do Rodon and either Gonzalez, Rutherford or Adolfo for Nick Senzel. I don't know if the Reds would though. I don't think Rodon alone is enough to grab Senzel. I think it might take Rodon and Rutherford, and I am 100% ok with that deal. Senzel is blocked by both Suarez and Gennett.

2018-2019 Official NBA thread
Jack Parkman replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
They probably aren't, a lot of the injuries on both teams were probably freak occurrences, but you can't deny the commonality of both teams having the same ownership group. Also, the Bulls medical team has had a poor reputation for a while. The Sox medical team has been quite the opposite. It is just weird that so many key players are getting hurt on both teams with a Reinsdorf as chairman. At the same time, when your family is involved with two sports teams and both get ravaged by injuries to key players, you have to look in the mirror a bit. I don't really think there is much they could have done, but they have to ask themselves if there was anything they could have done differently. It is becoming a huge red flag. I'm not necessarily saying to change anything, but just to give it a look. What can it hurt? -

The amount of injuries that both the Sox and Bulls are going through this year makes me wonder if Lip isn't right about complacency and groupthink within the training and nutrition groups. Maybe they need to bring in a consultant or something and do something a little different. -

How much $/years would you offer Eovaldi?
Jack Parkman replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm fine with being patient, but it would have been nice if at least one of the early trio of players called up looked like a star or solid MLB player immediately. If Eloy struggles out of the gate, this place is going to turn into a shitshow. There will be a Fire everyone thread created daily. I stand by the belief that this rebuild, if it works, is going to follow the path of the Royals. Nobody wants to hear it. The main difference is the Sox will end up spending enough to keep some of their guys around. I'm expecting a 2-3 year championship window at maximum. They better take advantage of it. -

All I can say is no matter which political group this bomber is affiliated with, it isn't helping their cause. It will have the opposite political effect that this bomber intends it to have. Whether this is the work of a right wing or left wing nutjob, Congratulations! You just helped the opposition. That is all, and I will say no more. -

In the US, yes. Other places in the world, of course not.
