Guys we should target on short term deals
Jack Parkman replied to wrathofhahn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, I think Fried could be a trade for someone like Rutherford, Gonzalez or Adolfo, because the Sox have OF logjam problems. Of those three, I think Adolfo is the most likely. Fried is someone a lot of prospect guys like as a SP, but the Braves don't have room for him long term in their rotation. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back Shields for a 6th option as a long reliever/spot starter. -

I really never had expectations, it was just a a comment in general. Even after the Mack trade I thought that 10 wins was an absolute best case scenario. The offense has been better than I had anticipated, and the defense has been much worse. Most likely they were going to win 6-9 games, and I stand by that. Despite some of my criticism of it, I am 100% behind the Mack trade as they were going to spend their 2019 1st on an edge rusher anyway and they only swapped 1st and 2nd in 2020. The 2020 2nd from Oakland is very likely to be in the 33-43 range. -

I think the Sox might trade for Max Fried and Jeff Hoffman this offseason to fill out their rotation. Both pitchers are young enough to stick and have upside left, but both also have fallen out of favor with their team. Hoffman will probably be cheap, Fried will be more expensive. Giolito and Fried were teammates in HS. -
How much $/years would you offer Eovaldi?
Jack Parkman replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Completely agreed. I wouldn't mind Eovaldi all that much because he could take a huge step forward and end up being a bargain, but for the most part, picking up someone like Sonny Gray for a minimal cost or someone like Pomeranz on a 1-year deal, is a much smarter move. Who knows? Dunning could be ready for a spot by July, provided he stays healthy. Eovaldi is going to be a hot ticket, as he looks to be the 3rd best option for contenders in need of a starter, after Keuchel and Corbin. The majority of FA starters this offseason are barely worthy of an MLB contract. -

Defense is massively overrated. They may have greatly overachieved in 2017. -

Let's agree to disagree. Unmet expectations equal frustration. Much easier when you have no expectations. Disappointment sucks, and it takes all of the joy of watching sports out of it. I choose to have no expectations unless they are warranted. To each his own. -

I'm with you 100% You and I are in lock step in many ways with regard to the Sox. I don't think Hahn is the worst GM in baseball history, but I don't think he and KW should have been around and allowed to make the rebuild trades. -

I haven't, but I think the majority of the fanbase threw in the towel on him by June. Those of us that think Giolito could still be a good pitcher are a very small minority. I think the majority of the fanbase would actually jump for joy if they DFA him this offseason or trade him for a bag of heavily used baseballs. It wouldn't and shouldn't happen, but that is how the fanbase feels about him. -

I hate being mediocre, which I think the Bears are. I either want to completely suck, like the Sox, or be really good like the Hawks were from 2010-16. Being mediocre is the worst type of torture. There is no pain when there is no hope. I think a lot of fans are coming to this realization, which is why full rebuilds are becoming more common throughout all sports. From my perspective, it is much easier to watch a team when there is no hope and enjoy the few good players your team has, rather than nitpicking everything that went wrong when your team is mediocre. -

If Josh Allen wasn't injured, I'd have a hard time chalking that one in the W column for the Bears. With Allen, the Bills are kind of like the Bears were last year. Without him they are just bad. -

Yeah, me too. I don't see them beating GB or the Rams either, Bills, Niners and Giants should be a win. I think they could go 0-4 in those games though. Jets could go either way. Looking at 6-8 wins at this point. 8 wins with a W vs. the Lions and Jets, 7 if they split those two, and 6 if they lose them. Should they lay an egg vs a bad team, they could win 5. -

The next two games are winnable. Jets game is a tossup, Bills should be an easy W. Get through the 1st half 5-3 and see what happens in division play. Bears are now in last place, btw. It doesn't help one bit that they play in the toughest division in the NFL. I hope this isn't like 2014 where they started 3-0 and ended up 5-11. The 4 games vs the Vikings and Lions are going to to determine whether or not they win 8-10 games or 6-7. -

All 3 games they've lost have been complete team losses. Not good enough. -

I don't disagree that Trubisky has been inaccurate. It also seems like the Pats DBs all have really good instincts on when to jump routes. -

Hoodie makes a lot of QBs look bad. Mitch had a couple really good games before today, and his receivers are doing him no favors. Chalk it up to Belichick being a great coach even when shorthanded on talent. -

The Bears defense has been massively overrated, by myself included. I thought they were a Khalil Mack away from being a top 5 unit. They needed much more help than I thought. -

Notice how listed things they did well and you listed things they did poorly. Doing things poorly and still being in the game is not a positive. They are reasons why they aren't winning. -

It is probably both. The Bears are up 2-0 in turnovers, got 14 points off of them and are still trailing. Shows you just how far away they are from a SB contending team. -
That is where you and I disagree. I believe certain things are non-negotiable and basic human rights. The big difference is for some things where a general GOP voter would see freedom, I see oppression and vice versa.

I want to let you know thank you, and my best friend in the whole world is staunchly opposed to my politics, and we try to discuss stuff a lot. It doesn't phase me and I'm glad to have a candid conversation about it.

Right and Wrong is not subjective. The minute we allow it to be subjective, it loses all value. At that point, facts no longer exists, truth no longer exists, and laws can never be broken. Total chaos. "Everything is subjective" doesn't fly by me. People have the right to critically think. There are times when opinion really does exist. When it comes to basic human decency, opinion goes out the window. Being a decent human is non-negotiable. Being a decent human is objective. If we don't draw the line somewhere, there is no line.

Politics has devolved. It is no longer a matter of opinion. It is a matter of right and wrong. It is a matter of basic human decency. Are you a sadist? Do you revel in other's misery? I'm sorry. There may have been a time in the distant past where there was opinion involved but that point has long passed. If you enjoy torturing other humans, than by all means, continue saying that there is opinion involved. I don't enjoy torturing people. Every person on this planet is just as important as you are. Until people get that through their heads, nothing will change.
