Your new Supreme Court nominee is....
Jack Parkman replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
That is true in American Society up until the point that someone is arrested or an alleged crime committed is made public. At that point, everyone is guilty until proven innocent, not in the eyes of the law but in the court of public opinion. And that is how it is set up. People need to take that into account. When it comes to Sexual Assault of any kind, statistics show that 98% of allegations are true. Based on that, I choose to believe the alleged victim until the evidence shows that they shouldn't be believed. I do believe that those that make false allegations need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. -

For those watching the game tonight: With regard to Rams jerseys, which color scheme is most aesthetically pleasing: Blue/White, Blue/Yellow or Blue/Gold? For me I'll take option 2, but it is a close call with option 1. Every time they wear the Blue/Yellow I wonder why they went away from that. It is really sharp. I think darker blue/navy with the yellow is better than the lighter blue. -
Sox have "flexibility" to add "long term pieces"
Jack Parkman replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hate to bring this up, but 3 people got shot on 35th and LaSalle yesterday. I went to IIT and nothing happened anything close to that when I was there, however you bet there are going to be questions about safety for a wealthy athlete in that area now. It is kind of weird because I ate at that Jimmy Johns and studied at that Starbucks multiple times a week for 4 years. I can't even count how many times I was there at the time those people were shot. -

Jack Parkman replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Do you truly believe that? There is a ton of uncertainty with a lot of the Sox prospects and young MLB players. You can't say anything for sure. The surest thing the Sox have is Eloy and everyone else is a massive question mark currently. In October 2017 it was much more plausible than it is now. There are players I WANT to believe in, but their performance doesn't justify the faith I have that they will turn it around. Because of that, out of all of the teams that are 2+ seasons into their rebuild, The Sox are among the most questionable that they'll have a winning record anytime soon. If I was speaking with my heart, of course I'd agree. But my brain says otherwise. -
Sox have "flexibility" to add "long term pieces"
Jack Parkman replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not really. Sure there are plenty of instances of older FA going to bad teams for big money, but that is because they're older and have either won or are looking to cash in on their last big contract. A-Rod is really the only example of a young superstar going to a bad team. It took a ~60M better offer than the next team, in 2000, for him to join the lesser team. Today, a bad team would probably have to overpay by 100+M. Why would a young superstar with so much of his career ahead of him go somewhere for his prime where his best seasons could be wasted? Honest question. -

I think both are correct. I think he's talking out of his ass. It is a PR stunt. -
Sox have "flexibility" to add "long term pieces"
Jack Parkman replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There isn't really any other comparison point. I don't think there has been a player that reached FA at age 25 or 26 since A-Rod and Manny. The other thing is that both Harper and Machado are superstars, similar to A-Rod and Manny and even if there was a player somewhat comparable, they weren't as good as those 4 players mentioned. Those two bidding wars are the only real comparison to this coming offseason. -

There hasn't been a FA duo this good and this young since A-Rod and Manny Ramirez in 2000. They are the only true comparisons here. -
Sox have "flexibility" to add "long term pieces"
Jack Parkman replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't, but it took roughly 60MM in 2000 to get A-Rod to sign with Texas instead of anyone else. We all know how much he signed for. The next highest bid was 8/196. The team that gave him that offer is why I have a little bit of hope, but again I'll believe it when I see it. The Sox in 2000-2001 were coming of a 95 win season, a division title, the best regular season record in the AL and had the consensus #1 farm system in baseball. That is why I believe they would have to beat the next offer by a lot to get Machado to sign here. The Sox are closer to the Rangers in 2000 than they are to their own situation then. If Harper or Machado sign with the Braves, it should shock nobody. They're closer to the Sox in 2000 than the Sox are. -

Jack Parkman replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I call bullshit, because they'd have to offer 50-75MM more than anyone else to get Machado to come here. I don't trust them to do that. Even if they had the best offer, I doubt it would be more than 5-10MM more than the next best. For that, I would think that Machado would choose to go elsewhere. That is my rationale. I don't trust them to sign someone like Machado. I won't believe it until they actually pull it off and Machado, Harper, or anyone else that young and good in the near future is in a Sox uniform, and they're holding the Press Conference. Until that happens, I will continue to believe it is bullshit. If Hahn can pull it off, I'll give him credit. The fact there were rumors they wanted to get MM in for a year and sell him on the "White Sox Culture" tells me a lot about the situation. They aren't going to be the highest bidder, they know that and he's not signing here. -

*sneezing* Bullshit. Sorry Rick, I'm allergic to Bullshit. I'll believe it when I see it. Even if you have the dollars, it doesn't mean anyone will want to come here either. -
I thought Vietnam was more like China, I guess NK could be considered that too. NK is weird because nobody knows anything about them and KJU is nuts. Venezuela is kind of iffy.

If you run a co-op and sell goods and services for a profit, is that Social Democracy or Democratic Socialism? Honest question. I'm learning something here. Bernie Sanders needs to tell people that he's not a socialist for this reason and maybe it will make the idiots less scared. From my perspective, if anything is sold for a profit no matter who is doing the selling....It isn't socialism. That means that the Nordic countries aren't socialist either. If socialism=government control of distribution of goods and services, and for non-profit, then there may only be one economy in the world left like that, and that is Cuba. I don't know enough about how Raul Castro is running Cuba to know if that is the case.

Taking a hiatus at the end of the baseball season
Jack Parkman replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hockey's Future. It's an NHL wide board, with team specific forums and a main board where fanbases mingle. Sarava and I both post on the Blackhawks forum. BWC is is a shortened form of a handle of a poster who is overly negative about everything. He thinks that Hahn, Bowman, Pace and Forman are all massive jokes and are near the bottom of the barrel of GMs in each respective league. (Forman is the only one that has any basis in reality) He also has an irrational love of Cutler and thinks he a was a top 10 QB and he gives all blame for his failures to coaching and front office personnel. I joked that I want to keep BWC away from here, but I think he might be Tom Longo. -

No. Im pretty neutral on the Mack trade. In my mind, it all depends on the separation between the Bears 2020 1st and the Raiders 2020 2nd. The Bears were using their 2019 1st on an edge rusher anyway. I'm not pissed about that one. If they hadn't traded their 2019 2nd and if they were able to get him for their 2019 1st, 2nd and 5th, I think that would have been a no-brainer. That 2020 1st is worrisome if Mitch continues to look meh or worse. 2. Mitch isnt horrible for the lack of experience he has, but it would have been nice to have had the ability to trade back in the top 10 to get him and actually add draft capital instead of spending some. I don't think he was worth a top 15 pick. If they picked him at 18 or 22 or lower, no problem. Didn't think so in 4/2017 and I still don't think so now. I actually really like what Pace has done with the remainder of the roster other than QB. Ultimately, he and Mitch are tied at the hip. If Mitch fails, Pace is fired. -
I'm ok with captialism lite social democracy, but in a perfect world, from my point of view, I'd advocate take over of top-down corporate structures in favor of worker Co-Ops. It works better, IMO. Break up the huge national companies and replace them with regional ones, that are run like a co-op. If democracy is the best form of government, then it should be the best form for work too. The big thing is that you have to keep the companies small enough to actually make it work, otherwise nothing gets done. Social Democracy and Democratic Socialism are the same thing. The government sets the rules for the economy, and if it works for everyone instead of only those at the top, then everyone is better off. I don't understand how those at the top think that squeezing the population how they are is going to last forever. Eventually, nobody is going to be able to afford their goods and services. What then?

That is why it hasn't happened here. We were really close to it from 1946-1957. Then shit started to hit the fan(according to the white establishment)with the civil rights and women's movements, and they started to take it all away.

Gonna laugh my ass off if the Cubs have to play the Cardinals in the WCG.

I have a question for you guys: You do know that Democratic Socialism is just a fancy word for capitalism with things like single payer healthcare, strong labor rights for workers, unemployment protection, 6 weeks vacation required by law, stuff like that right? It isn't that radical. Go look at the Scandinavian countries and they know how to do it really well.

Another really good post. I despised the Trubisky pick, and haven't seen anything to show me that I am wrong. I was hopeful that Trubisky and Pace would prove me wrong, as SB said, the Mack trade fucked everything up for Mitch. Nobody would be as critical of him as they are without the Mack trade. I'd be much more critical of Sox players if they were trying to win. It really fucks up development when the remainder of the team arrives too soon for the QB. -
