I'm not a fan of the President getting to select SCJs. If Trump only has a 4 year term and we lose 3-4 SCJs during that span(we've already had 2 in less than two years) that is pretty horrible to have such a radical and unpopular president pick 1/3 or more of the Supreme Court. Going back to it, I like a maximum of 2 12 year terms, with 1/3 of the Supreme court up for election every four years, in Presidential Election years. A special election would be held during the next mid-term, if a justice were to die in office or otherwise become incapacitated. It would work similarly to how the Senate election process works.

I think it is time to make a change to the constitution and make high-level judges elected officials. They can still have longer terms, but they should still have to answer to the American people. Maybe make a SCJ an elected official that has one 16 year term.

I'm a bit conflicted today because I have $200 on the line in my roto league and Quintana going for me with very little separation in the pitching categories. I will either finish 1st or 2nd.

To me, watch Lopez and Giolito when they have lower velocity. They fly around on the mound. Neither of their deliveries are under control when their velo is lower. Both of them. When they stay closed in their delivery, the velo goes up. Otherwise, they both get shelled. I didn't notice the flying around with Lopez until the 1st inning today.

Griffey Jr. was better than Bonds pre-roids. It is my belief and I stand by it. It was close, but I'd give the edge to Jr. -

I let my inner meatball come out wrt the Bears. I'm trying not to be incredibly skeptical about the Bears and Sox right now. (it is impossible to not be skeptical about the Bulls and the Hawks are in no man's land currently) When I get overly negative it is because the years of failure as an organization get to me. The skepticism comes from "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" I don't want to get fooled, so I assume incompetence until proven otherwise. Approaching it from a neutral perspective and letting it play out is probably the most sensible answer, and I know that, but I choose to be somewhat negative about my favorite teams until competence is proven. I don't like getting disappointed. It doesn't feel good, and it also makes me look like an idiot. -

OK, I'll take your word for it. Both McNown and Grossman sucked. EOS. Let's move on and hope that Trubisky doesn't suck. -
Both statements are correct. He's earned an opportunity to see if he can get on base more, but his OBP over the whole season is still too low for my liking. He's improving in the walk department so We'll see where he is in July 2019. We should know more about him as a player at that point.
-
It's a big deal. OPS and OBP are are the two stats that have the highest correlation with run scoring. Probably the most important in a general sense. In other contexts, like with Moncada, it is BA because he has contact issues and the rest of the tools are there and very loud, so if he gets hits the rest will take care of itself. From my POV, as a hitter the importance is: OPS OBP Defensive ability by eye test everything else, unless the guy has contact issues which then brings BA into the equation. For most players, those two stats are the ones I look at first, then I dive into the rest. Anderson is weird because he's a really good defender and has power/speed but lacking in the On Base department.

I just don't think either were actually 6 feet tall, and both being 5-10 is much more believable than being 6-1. -
I went to a ST game at Camelback and Palka hit a 472 ft moon shot. I think that one is still in orbit.

That isn't what I said. They get all of their info from the team page. I can't magically go back to the 2010 Washington official website and see what Grossman was listed at. I can tell you this, though from people who met him in person he isn't 6 feet tall. I already said they were both listed at 6-1 early in their career, and later they were listed at 5-10. -
Yeah, I looked into it a little and I think he has something like a .373 OBP over the last month so I think he earned an opportunity to DH in 2019. I hope he shows he can get on base at a decent clip.

2018-2019 Official NBA thread
Jack Parkman replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I pay light attention to the NBA, mostly because Durant, LeBron and the Heat and GSW have ruined competitive balance for the better part of the decade. I hope that both continue to get roasted for those moves for the remainder of eternity. Basketball used to be one of my favorite sports, but LeBron and Durant have ruined it for me. They're both all-time greats, don't get me wrong but both of them rubbed me the wrong way with their "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" moves. -
Palka, like Anderson, has an OBP that is too low for my liking. Not to say he isn't valuable in other ways, but it just isn't how I'd build a team. OBP and OPS are the two most important stats from my point of view as a hitter. How often do you get on base and do you hit for anything other than singles. Just FYI, OPS isn't all about HRs. If someone gets a lot of 2B and 3B and still hits 10 HRs a year and steals bases at a decent clip, that is still valuable. (looking at you Nick Madrigal)

For both. I know, because that is what it was. Go get a copy of Madden 2002 and Madden 09 and they're both listed at 5-10 in those games. I don't think it was a mistake. I've heard stories of people standing next to both of those guys, actually being 6-1 and towering over them. (especially Grossman) -

When McNown was a backup in SF, he was listed at 5-10 and so was Grossman in Washington. -

Not really. I went into this listen still thinking that despite the setbacks, they had a good shot to pull this off. After this listen, I find it hard to see this rebuild being successful. It seems like best case scenario, they end up back where they were in 2016 with 5 really good players and nothing around them, and 78 wins. -

Both he and Grossman were listed at 6-1 coming out of college, and somehow as backups later in their careers, were listed at 5-10. They were both 5-10. I remember this pretty well. -

He was also 5-10 which was a big red flag at that time, and short QBs don't work out that well unless they're super athletic and fast. I still don't believe he would have been drafted in the 1st round by anyone else. -

That take on 2-2 is why there is still hope for Moncada. Just unreal ability to lay off close pitches outside the zone. -

Carrasco making Moncada look like a schmuck tonight. 0-2 with both Ks looking. However, both pitches he struck out on were super nasty, and seasoned vets would have struck out looking on those pitches.
