I'm fine with Moncada being a singles hitter for a bit. The power and walks will come with more confidence and contact. He's gonna take some time, but when he puts it all together it will be a lot of fun to watch him and Eloy in the middle of that lineup.

Taking a hiatus at the end of the baseball season
Jack Parkman replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Someone needs to take away my posting privileges when I am upset. Complete overreaction. I'm back, just cant see the forest for the trees sometimes. Has a lot to do with my autism. I'll explain later. Ok now for the explanation: When autistic people are upset, anxious or stressed out in any way, it affects our ability to critically think. We tend to revert to black and white thinking, and get very rigid and stubborn. Once we're able to calm down a bit, then we realize how stupid we were. I'm going to try to refrain from posting while pissed going forward. -
Taking a hiatus at the end of the baseball season

Guys, to clarify, it isn't as much about the emotional investment as it is the time investment. We only have so much time to walk this planet. I've been watching 120+ Sox games, 50+ Hawks games and every Bears game since I was 13. I can't even begin to fathom all of the countless hours I've spent on message boards. I want to explore other things I can do with that time. I have other hobbies, such as fishing, amateur astronomy, and chess that I also love doing and I'm taking away from the enjoyment of those activities by watching men in costumes play a children's game. I'm not completely giving up on sports, but it is going to the bottom of my priority list. If I have an opportunity to do those other things, I'm going to make that choice now. 19 years of making gameday the priority for my leisure time is enough. -
I've been a pretty big contributor here for a long time(started posting at SoxTalk in Jan of 06 after defecting from WSI), but this weekend has kind of broken me as a fan. I might take a year off and not care even close to as much about my Chicago sports teams. I'm posting this because of my posts in the past about MI/Autism, and I don't want anyone to worry about me. I'm fine. I'm just catching up developmentally and growing as an adult. I'm starting to realize a lot more where my priorities are, and sports, quite frankly, isn't one of them right now. I'm already pretty invested in this season, So I'll stick around until I start my new job leading up to the last week of the season, after that, all bets are off. I don't know if I'll return or not. Who Knows? I might like not wasting time on watching a silly game a lot more than wasting time on it. I've been working really hard to eliminate pessimistic thoughts, and sports are letting them creep back into my brain. I can't have it and it isn't healthy for me. Peace, Parkman

This meme is appropriate once again. What a shitty weekend for fans of both the Sox and Bears. A disaster of epic proportions. -

1. They were getting stuffed on those calls. 2. There isn't really anything they could have done, other than cover better and get to the damn QB? If the players don't execute, they lose 3. The receivers were blanketed. Hats off to the GB secondary. They have much better DBs now than the Bears do. 4. This reminds me of the shirt that my dad had in the early 90s, titled "Top 10 lies told at Wrigley Field" in which #4 was "Dunston needs more time to develop" Put up or shut up. With the Mack trade, Pace has put the team in such a horrible position that it might take a decade to dig out of this mess. Phil Emery: I can trash a team so badly it takes a half decade to dig out of it Ryan Pace: Hold my beer. -

Where's Doug Buffone when you need him.... RIP Doug. Doug and O'B were therapy for disgruntled Bear fans. -

He sucks. We saw it last year, same shit this year. Trading those two #1s for Mack was stupid, not because of the player they got but because they're nowhere near ready to make that move. Nagy got incredibly outcoached tonight, and McCarthy just put on tape how to beat this defense. WCO stuff with quick passes and they can't do anything. You beat this Bears team the same way you beat the 46 defense... Quick throws. WCO stuff still works. The past 6 months has taught me a lot about sports... Don't ever get excited about anything, because it is always premature. Your team has to prove it over the course of multiple seasons, otherwise it is all a mirage. Hope is what snake oil salesmen try to sell you before they take your cash. Expect nothing. Ever. Everyone sucks until proven otherwise. Always. -

They're winning 4-5 games this year folks. Mack is a great player, but the Bears couldn't afford to make this trade. Maybe it will be Gruden with the last laugh on this one as he gets a couple top ten picks...... -
Sunday Baseball in Chicago 9/9 Halos and Pale Hose

I'm extremely encouraged about what I've seen since 8/1 from both Lopez and Giolito. They're both looking like mid-rotation pieces currently. -

This might be considered a "hot take" but Andrew Luck and Jay Cutler are the same QB. Too many turnovers. Luck has already thrown an INT. I find it hilarious that most of the same people who used to say Cutler sucked are the same people who think Luck is one of the best QBs in the league. -
Yes, and as this goes on it is going to be really difficult to acquire young talent.
-
No, you're not getting Tucker for Rodon. You have to start with a guy in the #30-50 range in the T100, then a guy in the 70-100 range and one C+ guy. Those players would be worth more to the Sox than 3 seasons of Rodon.
-
I think Houston could think about it for a guy under control for 3 seasons. They moved players for Gerrit Cole, and he was under control for two seasons. Hahn should be on the phone with Anthopolous as soon as the Braves are eliminated.
-
I don't think it is worth it either, but it is just a fun try. A lot depends on Jimenez, Moncada, Giolito and Lopez taking off.
-
Well yeah. I'd lean toward moving him this winter. I don't think DeGrom and Syndergaard are going anywhere. It seems them staying put is coming from ownership. While that is very true that there aren't a lot of teams with the ammo, I think getting ahead of the market and talking with Atlanta might be a good idea. If they can agree, fine. I'd take 1 in the 25-50 range, one in the 50-100 range and two flyers to get the job done. A step below the Quintana package. If the Braves offered Gohara, Toussaint or Allard and Contreras I'd take that and run.
-
You have no argument from me there, I wish they wouldn't have let Hahn and KW be the architects of this rebuild, but it isn't my choice to make. I just have to see what happens, let it play out and hope for the best. You should too.
-
Thanks for proving my point Balta. Hahn should definitely start conversations on Rodon this offseason. If he likes what he's hearing, he can pull the trigger. Otherwise, wait until midseason 2019. There are zero reasons why Rodon should be on the roster come 8/1/2019.
-
I doubt they'll be competing in 2020. The Kopech injury pushes everything back at least one season, if not two. Most likely, they'd be ready in 2020 only if everything went perfectly. It hasn't, to say the least. 2021 or 2022 now. The injuries in 2018 change a lot.
-
Those guys were under team control during the majority of their competitive window. Rodon will be under team control for a maximum of two seasons of a window, with the most likely scenario being one season. If you keep him, he's basically a one or two year rental. Not worth it. Why is this logic so hard for you people? It would be like keeping Jose Quintana on a an 85-95 loss team where he's probably your best player, and there is slim to no hope of competing during his team control. Not trading Rodon by the start of the 2020 season if they continue to stockpile high draft picks and have no intention of spending, is a fireable offense, IMO. With the information we have now if Rodon is still on this roster by Opening Day 2020 Hahn should be fired. It would be a mismanagement of team assets of epic proportions. Do you like what the Mets are doing with Syndergaard and DeGrom? If you do, you're baseball stupid. I believe Hahn should be shitcanned on the spot if he DOESN'T trade Rodon for prospects. Rodon doesn't help the White Sox win anything. He would help another team far more than he would the Sox.
-
Unless they spend on some stopgaps, not for at least two. It's worth trading Rodon.
-
OK, so the Sox, next season and in 2020, will have the following pieces ready to rock and roll, assuming the 2nd half improvements are real Moncada Jimenez Anderson Giolito Lopez Rodon These are the core players for these two seasons I think they should trade Rodon, but they probably won't. The Sox also have the following hitters they have to figure out what to do with: Abreu Avi Garcia Palka The Sox also have a huge hole at the following positions: 3B RF(if Avi is non-tendered) CF SP 4-5' So, Why not drag some mid-tier FA in for a stop gap or two and see what happens? The payroll is miniscule, so why not bring some vets in? At the very worst, you could flip them when necessary. Targets CF-Pollock, Brantley, Jones RF(if they don't bring Avi back) -McCutchen, Carlos Gonzalez 3B-Donaldson, Moustakas RHSP-Morton, Lynn, Harvey LHSP-Ryu, Happ, Pomeranz, Gio Gonzalez The point of this exercise is to see if they could sneak into a WC spot, without signing anyone to more than a 2 or 3 year deal. Unlikely, but with the sting of Kopech's injury still fresh, it would be a breath of fresh air to the fanbase to see if they could spend a few bucks and get some winning under the young guys belts. I don't know if it is really worth it or not, but whatever. Just would be fun to try. They're probably not going to do this anyway. The one caveat is they can't trade for anyone at all, only money is involved here. If they want, and if Abreu is up for it I wouldn't be opposed to offering him a 2 year extension, which would be a 3 year contract buying out his last season of arbitration.
