I included him. For the real prospects in the trades, I included Moncada/Jimenez/Basabe as the hitters and Giolito/Lopez/Kopech/Cease/Dunning as the pitchers. If you only count guys with high end potential, you subtract Basabe and Dunning.
-
What I meant is that because they pushed Kopech hard the last two seasons with regard to innings, and he ended up blowing his elbow, they aren't going to push Cease that hard. Kopech had only thrown ~100 minor league innings before 2017. He only threw 50 in 2016. He threw 134 in 2017. They probably pushed him too quickly.

This x 1 billion

I don't disagree, but I think they'll be extra careful with Cease, especially with what happened to Kopech. See below for my explanation.
-
I only counted the players who were actual prospects. The other players were minor league filler. Kind of a big difference there.
-
I don't think they're going to do this again, Cease won't be up until tax day 2020.
-
I don't count it that way: Sale: 2 hitters, 1 pitcher Eaton: 3 pitchers Quintana: 1 pitcher, 1 hitter Count: 3 hitters, 5 pitchers. I'd have preferred that it was switched. If you're talking about really high end players, they only got 2 hitters, and 4 pitchers.

Hansen has been god awful this season. Dunning has his own elbow issues he's dealing with, and Cease probably isn't coming up until 2020.
-
Well done Balta. I too, complained that they didn't get a good enough mix of pitching and hitting. If they turn Cease and Dunning into Nick Senzel I won't complain, because one top hitter is probably worth two top pitchers.

The point is, the rest of the stats don't matter if hitter can't put bat on ball in the minors. If he's hitting that poorly against pitchers that won't sniff the bigs, what is he going to do against 5 year MLB vets? The tools are there, there are plenty of guys who had loud tools and didn't make the bigs because they didn't make enough contact. It is player specific what I look for. With Moncada and Collins, if they both make contact the rest will take care of itself. For them, BA is the biggest indicator of future success, IMO. For players like that, I put more emphasis on getting hits because the tools are there.

I don't, but for me it raises huge red flags when a position player can't hit .240 over a season in the minors. If he wasn't a first round pick, he'd be a non-prospect. He's a non-prospect. He isn't Courtney Hawkins bad, but he's not that far off. If he was hitting .270 that would be a different story. I'd love to see Adam Dunn's minor league numbers for comparison.
-
No. Moncada hit .290 in AAA bfore his callup and look at him. Hell, through mid-June 2017 Moncada was hitting .330 before going into a massive slump after getting injured. I wonder if Collins would hit .150 in the Bigs.
-
I'm not dumb. You have to hit the ball too. Anderson is a fine player, just not my cup of tea.
-
Or they want him to prove he's back before facing MLB hitters. Kopech has had zero healthy innings in the bigs, it might actually be a good idea to send him to Charlotte for a half season. There's zero reason for him to work his way back at the MLB level. They get the year back if they throw him at AAA for 55 days, so starting him in Charlotte and bringing him up around Memorial Day 2020 makes a ton of sense.
-
Collins hasn't proven squat. Gotta hit somewhat at the MiLB level. .230 in the minors isn't going to cut it. I don't care what his OBP is, he can't make contact to save his life. Collins isn't even a prospect in my book, because most think he can't stick behind the plate. He'd be 2011 Dunn bad at the MLB level. Maybe Zavala/Basabe. Burdi has lost a lot off his fastball since TJS, So you have to see what he has next season and Hamilton is already up.
-
Kopech will have one year and 40 days of service time when he returns. He was called up on 8/21, so that is 10 days +30 in September.
-
Well, this game proves, once more, that FIP/xFIP is absolutely a predictive stat. I don't know how anyone can argue this.
-
This is the big factor. Now, there really isn't any reinforcements until 2020 at the earliest. Cease isn't built up enough to even entertain an MLB appearance next year, so in 2019 it is pretty much Eloy and that is it. MAYBE Basabe can force his way up to Chicago, but I doubt it.

Everyone feels like this:
-
Yeah, and for all of those complaining about service time they can get a year back if they make him go to AAA until the ASB in 2020 and make him prove he's healthy.
-
This means too much. I want to commit White Sox Harikari. This entire season is so White Sox. Remind me why JR couldn't have fired Hahn/KW mid-season 2018? They both deserved it.

I never thought I'd ever agree with footlong, but here we are......

Guys, honestly the injuries this year have been an unmitigated disaster. I'd even go as far to say the whole thing is already a failure. Let's say Moncada/Giolito/Lopez turn out to be good players or stars, they will be FA before the rest of the team is ready. I'm 100% on the clean house in the FO train. There is no window, and the whole thing is ruined. They aren't going to have enough support before those 3 are gone. There is also the distinct possibility that none of those three are any good either.
-
Yes. Because the injury happened while he was on the MLB roster, this is what will happen. Had they not brought him up, and he had this injury in the spring it would not count toward MLB service time. The other thing is that he has had barely any MLB experience, so they might start him at AAA in 2020.
