  1. Absolutely. Kopech isn't doing anything until 2021 at earliest now, so whatever. I really don't know what to think. Injuries have now completely derailed the rebuild. I mean, they're probably not going to be ready to win anything until the guys already at the big league level are FA anyway, so this is already a disaster. We were talking 2021 at best before, now we're probably talking 2022-2023. Now they're still 4-5 years away. This sucks. Fire everyone.
  2. Anybody involved in the decision to bring up Kopech deserves to be fired. That is all. FML.
  3. I read that article this morning. I'm aware of it. What I really meant was if a new manager wanted to bring in their own pitching coach I wouldn't be opposed to Cooper leaving.
  4. Sinkers=bad high 4 seamers=good. Velocity = good as well. I think modern baseball may have passed him by. I'm willing to wait to see if he adjusts but I don't think he will.
  5. Fuck Cooper for neutering what makes Kopech special. I want him gone, but at the same time I'm mortified to think of what Sox pitching would look like without him.
  6. If the GOP doesn't want to do impeachment, why don't they invoke the 25th Amendment and declare him incompetent and unfit for duty? That way, they at least keep Pence in office through Jan 2021. I shouldn't be giving them ideas, but whatever.
  7. Wow. They yanked him. So much for that ERA being below 6.
  8. I don't know where that stuff Gio had in the 1st went, but this isn't good.
  9. He's gonna be hard pressed not to have 3-4 runs against by the end of this inning. EDIT: Crap.
  10. Damn. Really good piece of hitting there. I can't help but think they're on him in some way.
  11. Starting to remind me of Gio's start vs. the Yankees. They're fouling everything off instead of swinging and missing.
  12. That 2 seamer Giolito is throwing up there is absolutely disgusting. 1-2-3 with 2 K. Nice.
  13. +1. Get Renteria the fuck out of the dugout. Steverson can join him. See my Sig, lol.
  14. In order for this move to work, Trubisky has to ascend this season or in 2019. If Trubisky busts or doesn't peak until 2021, then this was a dumb move regardless of the value of the player. It is all about #10. I hope he can do much better with a modern offense and finally having real weapons, but I'm not holding my breath. While I was excited over the weekend, the excitement has waned and reality has set in. Trubisky plays QB for the Bears, and you must assume he sucks until proven otherwise. Been burned way too many times before. Still, the defense should be good enough to win as many games as they did from 2007-09 under Lovie. Those teams had great defenses and shit offenses, and still won 7 to 9 games every season.
  15. Yup. Miami Hurricanes Turnover Chain was the original one.
  16. Under the assumption that Trubisky is at the very least a decent QB, I'd put the Bears right up there with GB and Minne. They had the #9 defense last year and just added Mack. It isn't crazy to think that if they stay reasonably healthy, they could vault to #1. With Mack and reasonable health, I think they're a lock for a top 5 D.
  17. We need to have Weird Al played when Palka hits a HR. Palka Party!
  18. I'd say at least 8 but no more than 11, if Trubisky doesn't suck.
  19. Do you know why those laws are in place? Because Unions lobbied Congress on behalf of their workers. I understand the amount of money that pro athletes get in general is much greater than anything that most could hope to earn in their lifetime, but they got paid a comparable wage to an awesome job for the average person until they got a union and got their fair share. In the 60s players had to work another job to make a living during the offseason. It is actually no different than anyone else. They fought for their rights as workers and kept it up. The rest of the population got swindled by billionaires' propaganda. Don't like it? Go organize! If the billionaires could get away with repealing those laws they would do it in an instant. The point I was making was that if it wasn't for collective bargaining, our bosses would own us. It was virtual slavery. Those who were rich, stayed rich for generations and those who were poor, stayed poor. The American Dream was only possible because of the people who died and fought for labor rights. Today, on Labor Day, I salute them.
  20. Machado and Harper are special, in the same way that A-Rod and Manny Ramirez were in 2000. That is all. If fans would accept that a player's FA contract and being paid huge money in their decline years is repayment for their cheap years, and not get on the player's ass and be ok with the player getting his, I'd be fine with signing top-tier FA contracts. The idiocy is ridiculous. That attitude is why private employees don't have guaranteed pensions. The billionaire class has brainwashed people into doing what is in their best interest, instead of the worker's best interest. /End rant. This is how the system works. If you don't want it that way, then be prepared for Arbitration after year 1 of team control. I never begrudge a player for getting his. I don't hate Scott Boras. I love him. He gets the job done for the great majority of his clients. If I were a top MLB prospect or player, he'd be my agent.
