Hahn has said that when the time is right the money will be there. I think he's telling a white lie. They'll only spend on mid-tier guys. Forget about top-tier players. It has been the Sox MO since the turn of the century.
-
If they were going to spend, Eloy should have been in Chicago on 8/10 or so. He should be here learning how to win with these guys while they're on a hot streak. Not to mention, Eloy coming up and showing he's the real deal would be a huge recruiting tool for Machado or Harper, should they choose to go down that route this offseason.
-
To me, this signals that they're going to not be a player in FA. Hahn is lying through his teeth insisting that they'll spend.

Well done Sir, Thanks for proving my point. This type of wage suppression is happening to everyone all over the country, this would be a good time to make a gripe about it. How ironic this is announced on Labor Day.

Sox Vs Tigers Sept 3 game thread

I know. As long as this guy shows up in 2019 I'm fine with everything. Same with Giolito. If the guy we saw Thursday shows up next week they're going to give the Indians a scare next season, at the very least. -
The thing is, I don't know what objective measures they can use to prove a player is ready to be called up. It is completely subjective in so many ways. Eloy should fight for this on future players behalf. If I was him you know damn well I would. The CEO of your company is running a business as well. Does that give that person an excuse to squeeze every last dollar out of their employees? Honest question. If it does, enjoy your 70 hour work week at $5/hr with no overtime, vacation or benefits. You should do it and like it, and any dissent is being ungrateful. (I don't mean this with any malice toward you, just trying to prove a point)

Where the fuck has this Reynaldo Lopez been the rest of the season?? I really like this guy. If Lopez can pitch like this the sky's the limit for this rotation next season. Find a decent, flippable vet for the 5th starter role in case they can't hang with the Indians and Let's go boys!!! -
Yes. While it is a good business decision to do this, it completely ignores the human element. Eloy deserves a promotion, no question. Given my incredibly pro-worker stance in real life, under no way can I condone this. This is the real life equivalent of your boss giving you more responsibility at work and no change in job title or pay. How would you like it if your boss treated you this way? This is the type of thinking that leads companies to cut corners and squeeze every last dollar out of labor. I wish the remainder of the US labor force had as strong of a union as the MLB players do. It is something to be applauded, not vilified. America's middle and lower classes should strive to have a union as strong as the MLBPA negotiating on their behalf. If the Sox get screwed in any way if they file the grievance, while I'll hate it as a fan, I'll love it in every other way. The Sox deserve anything they have coming to them on this one. Nobody should be siding with ownership on this one unless they're willing to work at their current job for 60 hrs a week for $5/hr with no overtime or vacation.

Anyone check Mr. Radar? Ew. -
Currently frustrated because EA won't update the Madden roster with Mack on the Bears. Might have to do it manually. Don't want to, but might have to. Upside though is that I don't lose the 1st rounders in franchise mode

If you have to pick a baseball Mt. Rushmore for every decade of your baseball-watching life, who would be on it? Criteria: 1 RHSP, 1 LHSP, 1 RH hitter and 1 LH hitter Possible additions: 1 RP and 1 Switch hitter For me, the 90s is the easiest Greg Maddux, Randy Johnson, Frank Thomas and Ken Griffey Jr. You could have an argument for Pedro Martinez being in place of Maddux, but Maddux's dominance over every year of the decade puts him over the top, IMO. Randy Johnson is quite possibly the best LHP ever and probably the best pitcher I've ever seen in his prime period. More dominant than Kershaw, IMO. 2000s I'm having a really hard time with this one. I'm talking about the players who have had their best years during the majority of the decade. Trying to exclude roiders for this one. RHP Candidates: Roy Halladay? LHP Candidates: Johan Santana? Sabathia? RH Hitter- Pujols LH Hitter Candidates: Ortiz? Can't think of anyone better but I also can't help wondering about roiding and having 1B/DH for both of the best hitters of the decade. 2010s (so far) LHP-Kershaw RHP-Verlander RH Hitter-Trout(Miguel Cabrera is 2nd, but he has a lot of overlap in the previous decade) LH Hitter(struggling) Harper? I know I could think of someone better, but it isn't coming to me currently We can also have the disgraced player mt rushmore as well. I'll defer to the Soxtalk old-timers for the 60s, 70s and 80s. Please only comment on players you can clearly remember watching with your own eyes. Considering adding a 5th and 6th player to cover Relief pitching from 1970-present and Switch hitters A switch hitter could be optional, if there is one of the caliber of Mickey Mantle, Pete Rose or Chipper Jones. If you take RP into account, Mariano Rivera definitely fits in the 2000s closer category, but I don't remember relievers that well from the 90s, other than guys that played in town. Didn't watch a ton of out of town baseball until like 98-99 ish. This isn't a solo project, so I'm looking for assistance here.

Juego G. The G stands for gopherball. -
Yes it does, which is why it was still valid

Even when he was walking everyone and throwing 89-92 Giolito didn't give up that many hits. At that time he was hovering around a .240-.260 BAA. That, and the possibility of a velocity increase once the mechanical issues were solved was the basis for my optimism. Now that the velocity is almost all the way back, there's a real chance he can still be an ace.

On the bright side, Moncada wasn't one of them. -

We might be looking at another rain delay guys. It's moving in here in the Far West Burbs. -
I say thanks to Cub fans for Eloy and Cease every time I see one. This one will make them cringe for a long long time.
-
With regard to that trade, I'd imagine the choices were Benintendi/Groome/filler or Moncada/Kopech/Basabe/Diaz. The upside on the latter package is MUCH higher than the upside on the former. Moncada has Top 5 position player in the game potential, and Kopech has ace potential. Not to mention Basabe. Diaz is always hurt so whatever with him. I take the package the Sox took 10 times out of 10. The bust risk is higher, but the potential is MUCH higher. The Sox could end up with a Top 5 position player in the game and an ace from that package alone, and chances are they're getting at least one of those two players. Easy choice. Benintendi is going to be a really good player for a long time, but both Moncada and Kopech have a chance to be HOF players.

Official 2018-19 NFL Thread

They're against it because they think the the 2019 pick is going to be top 15 because the Bears aren't quite there offensively and the NFC(especially the North) is too good. My question to those people is Why not the Bears? The Packers defense sucks, the Lions are meh. I know the Packers have Rodgers, but I think that the NFCN is wide open and any one of them can rise to the top. Why not the Bears? Their defense could be right there with Minne now. In any event, the Bears were going to spend their 2019 1st rounder on an OLB anyway. If you operate under that assumption, the cost isn't that high. -
They can. He's already ineligible for postseason play due to the PED suspension, so the 8/31 deadline for postseason eligibility really doesn't matter.

Uh, he's the only one who possesses a bunghole. The residents are jealous.

Are you threatening me? You will cooperate with my bunghole.

The small town is also known for their polio epidemic in the 1940s. They always say, you don't want a bungholio to get polio.
