2019 OD Roster Thread with a focus on Eloy
Jack Parkman replied to ScootsMcGoots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd prefer they just launch Avi and go for a 1 year stopgap in 2019. -
8/28 GT - Big Game James vs. Lance Lynn

JHC, Andujar is a butcher at 3rd. Woof. -
I did get a few chuckles out of Fathom's response when Chicago White Sox and I were trying to meet up on Kopech day at the ballpark. CWS asked where I was and before I could answer, Fathom said I was hanging out in Giolito's locker.

Do they have anyone who wouldn't be a joke in CF in case Engel becomes injured? -

Abreu might be bad at 1B, but he's not THAT bad. That was horrid by Bird. -

The " Tank" is dead . Let there be Light !

Getz has said that Eloy is playing LF in Chicago. I'd imagine Abreu is back for one final season, and Avi is a non-tender candidate, IMO. I wonder who else is out there in the mid-tier for RF? I'll go check. EDIT: here's the FA list for this offseason. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/2018-19-mlb-free-agents.html -
I'm just going to sit back and watch you guys discuss this. I'm saying nothing in response to all of the shit that I got for saying I still thought he could turn it around.
-
I think Moncada is about to go on a tear to finish the season. He's starting to adjust to how pitchers are attacking him.

If you could get him for cheap on a 1 year deal, who would you rather give RF to next season Avi or McCutchen? I think they will sign some mid-tier guys next season and be ready to rock and roll if they can't land either Machado or Harper. I still think Machado will be a Yankee and Harper stays in Washington. -
8/27 GT - Rodon vs Tanaka
Jack Parkman replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2018 Season in Review
Even though 4 points separate 1st from 3rd in my roto league, and I'm in 2nd. I have Tanaka on my team and I'm not even mad. This game could cost me $200 at the end of the season and it really doesn't bother me. I love that the Sox are winning. Moncada, Anderson, Rodon doing good things, to me, outweighs the $200. I'd gladly sacrifice the $200 now for years of enjoyment. Maybe that is crazy, idk. I love my Sox. -

Torres was #2 at one point, ahead of Eloy and behind Acuna. Btw, do we have a way to insert a Spanish n with the tilde? I'm a grammar person and it bugs me. -

WTF Ump? That wasn't a a strike. -
No doubt. What is really encouraging about Giolito is that his velocity is returning to him and he's holding it later in games. Also, for some reason he still gets swings and misses on his fastball despite the low spin rate, it has been more noticable now that he's sitting 93-94 for most of the game. Another encouraging sign was during the first four innings of his last start, he was sitting 95-96. If he can get it there with a few pops at 97-98 regularly again, then you're starting to talk about the stuff that made him the top pitching prospect in baseball.

Nobody should expect stardom from any prospect, no matter how highly ranked they are. Even Eloy. A lot of people are expecting him to be a superstar right off the bat and I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed. I expect Eloy to be a solid middle of the order bat similar to Dye or Carlos Lee. Nothing earth shattering, but solid nonetheless. I expect Moncada to be a solid middle infielder with pop, and hopefully he hits for average. If Moncada's doing .255/.340/.790 with 20-25 HR and a bunch of XBH and 25-30 SB, that shouldn't be awful. Just like if Eloy his hitting .275/.330/.825 with 25-30 HR and 90-110 RBI, nobody should be upset with that either. Those are solid MLB players, even if not spectacular.

Completely agree. I maintain that Giolito is probably going to take a big step forward next season. I'm not sure about Lopez.
-
Wow. Was listening to Sox Machine Podcast, and Eno Sarris thinks that both Giolito and Lopez are not likely to stick in the rotation. I'm surprised. I thought that he'd think that at least one of them would stick.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
Jack Parkman replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As long as Moncada goes on a hot streak to finish the season, and the young pitchers continue to pitch well, idgaf. Idgaf if they pick 7th-10th either. I don't think there is any way they drop past 7-9 though. The Sox, in 2017 picked 11th and they finished with 78 wins the year prior. There is no way in hell they're getting anywhere close to that number. -
8/26 GT - KOPECH DAY (PART 2)!!
Jack Parkman replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2018 Season in Review
BTW, Moncada, though the results aren't showing it that much lately, looks like he's starting to turn a corner. He's striking out a lot less and hitting the ball hard again. The walks are still there too. I wouldn't be shocked if he has a huge September, and hopefully he can carry that over into next season. He's making a ton more contact in general. -

Nope. I thought there was no way Fry was ready to come in. -
I'm in Elgin. I'm in that weird slice of the district where two miles to the east you're in IL-08 and two miles west you're in IL-14. AKA the gerrymandered to hell portion.
