  1. I'm in IL-06 and I've been involved during the whole process. For anyone that despises Trump, Roskam has voted with him on 98% of issues. Roskam voted for the Tax Bill when his constituency was among the hardest hit in the COUNTRY. On my political To Do list, helping defeat Peter Roskam is #1.
  2. They're going after anything in the zone currently. I don't understand why more hitters don't do that against hard throwing pitchers. By all means don't swing at everything but if there is a fastball in the zone hack away.
  3. Yup. I wouldn't mind them keeping Avi around next season but by all means don't even think about re-signing him. I doubt he gets anything other than minor league offers after he leaves the Sox.
  4. It sure seems that way. Sucks against everyone but Sox pitching.
  5. Mikie Mahtook sucks, I have zero idea why he is such a hard out for Sox pitchers.
  6. He didn't want to be here and i think the "not staying healthy" had a lot to do with that.
  7. You seem like a cool dude, it was nice meeting you on Kopech Day. PM me and I'd like to get together sometime and watch a game in Schaumburg or something. Machado will be a hot commodity on the open market and might get more than Harper because there is no draft pick attached to him, not to mention Machado has had a MUCH better season than Harper this year. I think Harper is more realistic than Machado because Harper's market is kind of limited, and they won't have to spend with the big boys who can outspend everyone for him. In my mind, Harper has 3 realistic suitors: The Nationals, Diamondbacks and White Sox. WIth Machado, they might have to compete with the Cubs. Dodgers and Yankees, which isn't really a fair fight. Those teams don't have room for Harper, whether due to a crowded outfield, the luxury tax or both.
  8. No, that isn't what I was saying. Obviously they aren't anywhere close to finishing 11th from the bottom. However. Machado was traded so it doesn't matter with him. He's not QO eligible. If they get Harper and they lose #11 i really don't care anyway. What I was saying was that I'd prefer they didn't have to worry about it and they can continue to add to their already awesome minor league system. However once they get to the point where they would lose a 1st rounder for signing FA, I'd prefer they become picky about who they're wiling to give up that pick for.
  9. Wims reminds me a lot of Alshon Jeffery when he was here, without the attitude problem and injuries.
  10. I approve of this thread. As long as: a) the Sox finish top 10 this year in the draft and don't have to worry about losing their 1st rounder for signing a big fish free agent and b) Moncada, Anderson and the SP are fueling the wins, I couldn't care less if they're drafting 3rd, 6th or 9th.
  11. Moncada and Fulmer are apples and oranges. Fulmer could have only dreamed of having the minor league success Moncada has had, and we have 3+ seasons of failure for Fulmer at the AA, AAA, and MLB levels. Moncada was a notch below Eloy at AAA. He can still figure it out. Their track records are completely different.
  12. I have a better comparison for Moncada's upside now other than Trout: Jose Ramirez. Go look at what he's doing this season and that is what Moncada can become.
  13. No shit sherlock. I was making a comment asking why Cordell isn't in the lineup and LaMarre isn't in Charlotte.
  14. He's slowly getting his stuff back. Watch out for him next season. If the big fastball comes back, the sky is the limit.
  15. Most of the time there is no reason for someone to be offended unless you said something that fits category b. 90% of offensive comments are about those issues. Most people don't want to accept that there is an inherent societal bias, even to this day, against people who don't fit "the norm" which is a white, neurotypical, able-bodied male. For the record, I'm two of those things(white and male). The other two are where I'm different. This has given me a look into a biased culture in which I Probably otherwise wouldn't have noticed. It is easy to say nasty things about other people, until you've walked in their shoes.
  16. There is a fine line between humor and making fun of something and being offensive. Most don't know how to walk it, and most cross the line, probably unknowingly, I'm of the ilk that think that self-deprecation is something that makes living in an undesirable or otherwise severely uncomfortable situation makes living in said situation and going on in life much easier to take. If we didn't laugh at ourselves, we'd all blow our brains out going through the rat race.
  17. I don't take offense, I use it kind of in a self-deprecating manner. Doing that makes me feel better about myself because I hate the way I look and can't really do much about it. Humor cures a lot of ills. When I'm in pain I say stuff like "i've got to take my fat ass over to the couch" or something like that. I laugh about it otherwise I'd be even more miserable than I am most of the time. Also, using the word fat falls under the "otherwise denigrating people" category
  18. People need to stop being so judgmental. If people don't care about their health, that is their choice to shorten their lifespan. I'm severely overweight, but that has more to do with my physical disability than anything else. You don't know what people are dealing with. I love being active but I pay for it physically for 10-14 days every time I do it. Some people are caught between a rock and a hard place. You don't know what others are dealing with. I'm in my 30s and I have to use a cane to get around for a week after a 5+ hours on my feet
  19. Offensive words occur, and are only offensive because they were used to dehumanize, oppress or otherwise denigrate people that were minority groups. It comes from racism, ableism, and other forms of systemic societal segregation. If you don't understand that, I can't help you.
  20. We should be, but we're not. We had people in this country who hated Obama not because of his politics, but because of the color of his skin. Look no further than the man occupying the Oval Office. He's only there because of racism. He played that card, as did Reagan. Racism is part of US identity, until we start having really harsh penalties for it. Like ostracism. Make someone who believes crazy shit like that isolated and destitute. There are still people who won't let me in their fucking workplace because they believe that the Sandy Hook shooter was autistic and that autistic people are inherently violent, when the science says the opposite is true. People will believe anything they say on TV and don't use their critical thinking skills. If there is one thing I appreciate the most about how I was raised it was the belief that you should question everything. However, that didn't work too well when I questioned my folks about why I should do things. Most of the time I got "that is what is socially acceptable so just do it" hahaha
  21. They don't need to have "openers" they need to train pitchers to face 9 batters per game. That is the best way to maximize innings and keep batters off balance. Let the batter see a pitcher no more than one plate appearance per game. In practice, they have 6 guys who go between 2-3 IP every 3 days, two at a time. They only need to cover roughly 5-6 IP before going to the daily relievers. It would be functionally no different than how current bullpens work, and would actually result in less pitching changes.
  22. I think we need to not give a fuck about words too. I don't care about words, I care about your attitude, behavior and how you treat people who are different from yourself. As I struggle in adulthood, with both a physical disability and autism, I couldn't care less about what people say, what matters more is how they treat me. Do they actually care? If a manager, would they hire me if I was the best candidate for the job? As they say, actions speak louder than words. I take words in stride personally. Twitter took off around the time I was finishing college, Facebook didn't exist as "a thing" when I was in HS, and MySpace(if you can remember that) was just becoming popular when I was a Senior in HS. I didn't even join my first message board until I was 18. I shudder to think what I would have posted online in HS. I think people need to lighten up about most things personally. There are things that are important, and there are things that aren't. What I don't want is people thinking that they can mistreat people that are different than they are just because of that alone. There is nothing that I want more than for a person to be judged on their character rather than their minority status.
