  1. You can't do that. It will only make things worse. That will get him to start chasing low breaking balls more often.
  2. People should remember, Avi was hitting .380 in Charlotte when he got called up. Avi also struggled badly for 3 seasons before he figured it out. Nobody knows anything about anyone until they get to the major leagues. The minors mean nothing other than for making prospect lists. They weed out the ones who really can't cut it. Failing miserably at the MLB level weeds out the rest. This season has taught me a lot, and that is to not even get excited about anyone until they prove it in the Bigs. You just don't know.
  3. That means nothing if you can't put the bat on the ball. Courtney Hawkins had incredible physical tools as well. He couldn't put the bat on the ball even in the minors. It means nothing if you can't hit.
  4. I disagree. I think he's the most vital of them all. Moncada supposedly has game changing potential, Eloy Is going to be really solid but not a superstar. He'll put up .280/30/100 for a bunch of seasons but while those are good players, he can't move the needle as much as Moncada can. Eloy's plate discipline isn't that great either. It wouldn't surprise me if he never puts up an OBP over .350 in his career. with most seasons in the .325-340 range. Again, I think Eloy will be solid but not a superstar.
  5. If he was so right about this, why did anyone think so highly of him to a) give him $63M and b) think he was a prospect. I get that scouting is an inexact science, but why wouldn't more people have noticed this? If this is true, he shouldn't have been on any T100 lists.
  6. I really hope you're wrong. Moncada is such a huge part of the rebuild, that I don't think it can succeed without him becoming a superstar. If Moncada is a washout, they need everyone else to hit otherwise they're never going to be good enough to win anything. They'll probably get stuck in mediocrity, 78-85 win land.
  7. What did Law say about him? If he was so predictive why would he have even been on his list? IIRC he had him around 15th or so on his T100 last year.
  8. He does. That doesn't change the fact that he's been bad this year. If he puts it all together, he has the chance to break baseball similar to Trout, but the guy has to put the bat on the ball, which he's been able to do everywhere but MLB. It is baffling to me what is happening to him. I really don't know what they can do if he continues to put up 0-4 with 3K four nights of the week. It wasn't this bad until late July. Like I said earlier, before the ASB, he was up and down to the point that you thought a eureka moment was just around the corner. Now it has gone completely south on him.
  9. Taking balls isn't really his problem, he's fine with that. It is taking strikes that look like balls to him.I'm not sure if he can recognize in game the umpire's strike zone and react accordingly. it is like he thinks that every umpire is going to have the same zone.
  10. It's pointless to send Moncada down with 3 weeks left in the MiLB season, but if he doesn't absolutely rake in ST next year, I don't think it wouldn't be a bad thing for him to start next season in Charlotte, if in fact I am incorrect and he has two options remaining. Let him earn his way back up. And now he's swinging at crap. great. Also, there wasn't anything he could do with strike three there. Unfortunately, he was so incredibly up and down early in the season, that one could think he was about to figure it out only to go into another slump again. By the time it has gotten to this point, it is too late to use an option.
  11. You know it is getting bad for a player when even his most ardent defenders can't defend him anymore. Moncada has been bad since the ASB, no ifs ands or buts about it. He's really starting to make me wonder. He doesn't look lost at the plate because he's not swinging at crap a lot, but it wouldn't surprise me if he is.
  12. +infinity. Kopech should be in his spot on Saturday with Santiago DFA.
  13. Are they going to play tonight? Weather looks nasty.
  14. If Eloy actually plays a passable LF, I'll give him credit for it. I'm going on scouting reports, which say he's bad. I haven't seen enough of him to say if that is actually true or not. Every time I've had an opportunity to catch a Knights game on NBCSNCHI, Eloy has had the night off.
  15. Launch Davidson to the moon. Get him out of here. Keep both of these guys. You can never have enough left handed sticks.
  16. I'm tired of all of the grouches of the board giving me a confused emoji every time I post something positive about Moncada or Giolito. I get it, you think they suck and will never amount to anything.
  17. It has become a cesspool of people b****ing. They want him to be good right now. These people remind me of Veruca Salt from Willy Wonka."Don't care how, I want it now" This is sports, it is supposed to be fun. Make it fun to watch him grow, instead of frustrating. Be happy when Moncada gets a hit or a HR and shrug it off when he doesn't. Chalk it up to "development isn't linear" When Moncada puts it all together(and I think he will, which is why I said when and not if) he's going to be really fun to watch.
  18. I don't disagree, but I don't want him swinging at crap because he thinks it might be called a strike. The worst thing you can do is take someone with an awesome eye like that and turn them into a free swinger. Once you become a free swinger, it is harder to quit swinging at crap. It becomes a habit, that is more ingrained the longer you do it.
  19. This is probably true. This is also why the Dare to be Stupid album with Palka's mug on it would be high comedy.
  20. This game is exhibit A for why BABIP regression is a thing.
  21. Sometimes you don't know how a pitcher has pitched by just looking at the box score. This is one of those occasions. Kopech has been gork shot to death.
  22. That would only make things worse. Listen, Nobody is happy that Moncada is hitting .220, Giolito just got his ERA below 6 for the first time since April, and Lopez has been bad to meh for the last 2 months, but what good does pointing that fact out every time they make a start or go 0-4 with 2K do? I think that Giolito and Moncada will eventually be fine for sure. I'm not as positive about Lopez because he's throwing strikes, has all of his stuff, and is still not missing bats.
  23. If they DFA him after the game I'd have no complaints. Santiago blows chunks.
  24. That would make a great signature. It would be all kinds of awesomeness. You win the day, sir.
