  1. My god, MLB needs to get better umps. I'm not sure most of them know the difference between a ball and strike. It seems like they're guessing. They need to use Questec or PitchTrax to weed out bad umps. This must be done with the next MLB umps CBA. If you're bad at your job, you get shitcanned. They should be able to fire bad umpires.
  2. I'd rather Leury play CF this year on a regular basis than Engel.
  3. It is really nice to see. For about 6 weeks the entire team sucked at offense. It seemed like they had nine black holes. Idk how any team could possibly have been worse.
  4. Too little too late, IMO. If he gets hot for the remainder of the week do you think they can still move him for something decent? However, if teams look at his splits he seems to be consistently more productive after the ASB than before.
  5. This should be a funny comment, but it isn't. I can't blame him either, I don't know how the guy can ever take a pitch with the strikes called against him. Props to him for not being up there hacking.
  6. I know he has trouble commanding it, but it is his best breaker. I don't know why you'd ditch your best secondary pitch. When he was in the minors they were giving his curve a 65 or 70 on a regular basis.
  7. He can go get em in CF, but he has a noodle arm. If the dude could throw I'd get it.
  8. That is the next thing Giolito has to to to take step #2. He has to get his breaking pitches over for strikes early in the count, and when throws one out of the zone don't bounce it or make it so far outside that it is an easy take. Jesus H. Christ ump, that was outside. What does the MLB umpires union have vs Moncada?
  9. If it was Trout, I wouldn't complain much. I'm not sure Ohtani is that good of a hitter. Upton is a good player but nothing special.
  10. Eh, crap. I thought it was that Giolito wasn't throwing strikes, maybe he just isn't good.
  11. Wow the Angels are all over Giolito 2nd time through the order. Trout and Upton nearly went B2B there.
  12. JFC. They're trying to job Moncada in any way possible. That wasn't a swing. It was close, but it wasn't a swing.
  13. They were talking about this on the Sox Machine Podcast, that Covey might make a really good multi inning reliever, and I'd think they'd like to give Stephens a shot in the rotation, so why not move Covey to the bullpen, launch Volstad to the moon, and if Shields is traded bring up both Kopech/Stephens.
  14. Awesome call. You win. What is nuts is that for all of the big names at the top of the leaderboard, none of them got the job done.
  15. TW made a complete mess of 11 and 12, now took himself out of it unless he can hole some long birdie putts coming up. Missed birdie at 13. He pretty much has to eagle 14 and par the way home to have a chance. Now likely to par 14. Donezo.
  16. TW now leading by himself, made a hell of a shot out of a fairway bunker to the edge of the 10th green, and his opponents are feeling the TW intimidation voodoo magic.
  17. I meant that in the following way: He could be solid, not spectacular, and massively disappointing if what you see is what you get. I have argued that teams overdraft QBs, need to stick to their board. Just because the position is the most important on the field, doesn't mean that you have to spend a top 5 pick on the best QBs in the class, regardless of whether or not you need one. GMs get fired all of the time because they overdraft QBs. If you have the top QB in the class graded as a mid-1st, and you need a QB, you should trade back and accumulate further assets, rather than waste a high pick on a QB just because he's the best in the class and you need one. GMs in previous years, especially in the 80s and 90s, used to be much more disciplined when it came to the QB position. Something changed in the mid-late 00s. It is my opinion, that despite them being good, neither Goff or Wentz were top 20 prospects in the 2016 draft. It used to be a huge deal when there was more than one QB that was to be drafted in the top 10, and an even bigger deal when there was supposed to be 3 or more in the top 15. I'm not really complaining about them drafting Trubisky, I'm complaining where teams are drafting QBs that are late 1st-early 2nd prospects at best. They're taking them top 5, and that is bad. Trubisky was like the 25th-35th best prospect in that draft, and he was drafted 2nd overall. That is a crime against drafting. Stick. To. Your. Board. In the 80s and 90s, many times the 1st QB wouldn't come off the board until the late teens or 20s. Most years there were only 1-2 QBs taken in the 1st round. A lot of this has to do with my personal crusade against the overdrafting of quarterbacks.
  18. This post wins the thread.
  19. I wonder if the M's fans call Vogelbach a "fat ass" or that he immediately becomes 50 lbs heavier when he has a bad game or two, like Sox fans used to do to Jenks.
  20. I haven't seen it yet, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. It doesn't mean that it is there either. I'm fine saying that until Mitch proves otherwise. All I've been saying really is the following: 1. Trubisky has been meh(I don't see how anyone can argue this point) 2. Fox/Loggains had the kid gloves on him, so we don't know if he can make all of the throws or not, or even read defenses properly 3. If what you see is what you get, prepare to be disappointed. 4. Maybe having an NFL caliber offense and weapons will bring out the talent that Pace saw , such that he absolutely had to move up to get him. I don't see what the big deal is saying that he has been meh and hasn't shown anything amazing is? I know Fox was painfully conservative, but you'd think they'd unleash him once in a while, right?
  21. You didn't read where I said that the comment was a joke? I meant that the entire post was a joke. Do you not find self-deprecation funny? Sorry if I wasn't clear enough that the entire post was meant to be sarcastic/funny/a joke. I find it hard to get excited because I didn't even see flashes from Trubisky last year. I don't know how much of that was Fox having the kid gloves on and how much is him not being that good. I actually remain hopeful, but skeptical until I see those WOW moments. Honestly, there isn't enough body of work to say anything about him. Yes, Fox was painfully conservative. We really don't know anything about Trubisky other than he was a high draft pick. Still doesn't change that he hasn't shown much though at the NFL level.
  22. This is the Bears QB position we're talking about. I will assume any QB acquired by the Bears via trade or FA sucks, and any QB drafted is a bust, until proven otherwise. Following that rule, Trubisky is a bust until he proves he isn't. Simple as that. The Bears don't get to have HOF QBs. It is a fact of life, like the Yankees being good, the Cubs choking and the LA Lakers getting all of the good free agents. The Cubs winning in 2016 broke the space-time continuum, which led to the alternate reality that we are living in, in which Don Trump is POTUS. We don't want to see what happens if the Bears get a HOF QB. it would lead to nuclear war. (the previous comment is obviously a joke)
  23. Yeah, After seeing what the Mets got for Familia, who's younger and less expensive than Soria, I really don't think the Sox have anybody worth trading this season. Maybe Shields is the only guy that gets moved, and for a Forbes-like guy. Between Abreu's slump, Avi's injuries and general prospect hoarding, there really isn't worth trading anyone other than Shields, and that is just to open a rotation spot. It is really difficult to see anyone the Sox have available via trade netting anything worthwhile.
  24. Hopefully he continues to rake.
