  1. I'm expecting a strike. The players are getting the shaft in this market, not the owners.
  2. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-trade-deadline-matters-less-than-ever/ Basically explains what I've been seeing: Top 100 prospects are gold and are to be hoarded, veterans are not under consideration as pieces to be added due to inflated salary and declining performance. Eventually, what you have is what you have, and FA is the only way to improve without selling controllable pieces for other controllable pieces. Even FA might not improve teams all that much. Be prepared for a long labor fight in 2021-22.
  3. Where are the success stories over the years 2006-17?
  4. Anyone else think it might be Vieira that gets the call?
  5. Is it wrong that I still go out of my way every now and then to watch a Sale or Quintana start? I'm really intrigued to see how they do in pressure cooker time this year, with both Boston and the Cubs involved in tight races for the division.
  6. Exactly my point Balta. I challenge anyone to name a player that the Sox drafted, spent two seasons in the Sox system and didn't completely suck once called up between 2006-2017, if they even made it to the majors. Marcus Semien is the closest and IIRC he was really bad until this year.
  7. They really haven't developed any prospects of note since McCarthy. Every decent young player they got was MLB ready when they got them. You could have an argument for Quintana as they poached him from the jankees(/ozzie) but he did most of his development in their system. They have a 10 year track record of crap in every aspect of player development.
  8. Yeah, saw it from Fegan about 20 mins ago. Adolfo is having TJS.
  9. I hate the term "alt-right" Call a spade a spade. They're all fucking Nazis.
  10. Yeah, I've been the biggest Avi hater for a while, after doing a complete 180 from being a huge Avi fan. Now I've completed the 360. I used to think Avi's ceiling was Detroit Maggs when I used to be a huge fan. We might see that in the near future if he can stay healthy. He absolutely murders baseballs.
  11. If this is true, then we have lost our democracy. Fascism for everyone.
  12. With the way that he's hitting currently, I don't think a contender would be interested at all. Since the calendar turned to June he's been bad.
  13. No. You must assume the QB of the Chicago Bears sucks until proven otherwise. Let's see Trubisky make a damn pro bowl first.
  14. Ah, yes. the 3 headed monster that was supposed to be Nick Masset, Andy Sisco and David Aardsma. They all could throw gas, but none could hit the broad side of a barn after April 2007.
  15. Luis Ortiz or Lucas Erceg and Jean Carmona. Neither are top 100 guys, but they are the Brewers #3. #4 and #15 according to MLB pipeline. I'd target Corey Ray, but the Sox are so loaded in the OF they don't need him. Erceg would be nice because it would give the Sox a decent 3B prospect.
  16. Yeah, but most college juniors sign. The only way he would do this is if he thinks he's a top 5-10 rounder next year. A college player loses a lot of negotiating power when returning for his senior year. Even if he were to go in rounds 6-10 he'd be expected to sign under slot.
  17. Yeah, I guess Martin isn't signing. That is weird, as he's a college guy.
  18. You took the words right out of my mouth. Another great post.
  19. Awesome post. If Hahn is taking a lot of calls on him, I'd move Yolmer into the "definitely move" category. I think Avilan belongs there too. I'd only move Avi at the deadline if I'm blown away, I'd rather give him the rest of the season to build value. Abreu probably isn't going anywhere unless his July is like his April and May, and nowhere near his June.
  20. I disagree. Moncada's upside is a notch below Trout. Roided up Robinson Cano with 30-35 SB per year. You don't punt on that type of potential this early. The way I look at Moncada is his upside is Cano with blazing speed and his floor is Trevor Story. Story is still a useful player, but if you think he's going to stay at Story level for the forseeable future you sell on him, sure, but you don't make that determination until 2020 when Madrigal is ready. And if you sell, you have to prepare yourself for the possibility that the light comes on elsewhere, and be okay with that.
  21. No, I just threw them in there because they both lost their prospect shine a little bit recently. This thread is mostly about Giolito.
  22. More his control problems when he was drafted, but injuries and the control issues have popped up again.
