Yes, I think that is a possibility.

This doesn't sound like a guy who's a mental headcase. I tend to think his issues are more physical than mental.

Despite the results, if you're not encouraged with what you saw from Giolito you're nuts. He actually looked like an MLB pitcher when he had his release point, They've rebuilt his delivery. It's going to take time. They can afford to work with him at the MLB level with muscle memory/repeating his delivery because they aren't trying to win. If you just focus on stuff and how many times he loses his release point without worrying about results, it's easy to see the progress. I'm pretty sure that Hahn and Coop don't care about results yet, they're more concerned about him repeating his delivery, throwing strikes and regaining his stuff. Once they're confident he has his new delivery down pat, then they can worry about results. It might take until June or July of next year to get to that point. They can afford to be patient. When he loses his release point, his velo goes down, he walks people and gets hit hard. Who cares really? The games don't matter.

Hansen to make next start in Birmingham over the weekend, per Scot Gregor

I realize that it is meaningless, which is why I used the "FWIW" qualifier.

I've heard that too. Stone said during his last start that he was flying open and falling all over the place, and I started watching him and noticed that when he was under control on the mound, his velocity went up and he was in the 93-94 range, and when he was flying open/falling off the mound, he lost 2-3 mph on the fastball.

FWIW, it was mentioned on the broadcast Saturday that Coop said Giolito had the best side session he's had since he was acquired by the Sox.

How eventful will be this years deadline?
Jack Parkman replied to wrathofhahn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It would have to be 6/80-100 at least. If you're Hahn you do this now, if he says no, you listen on him until you get what you want. I said that in the gamethread. You have to try to keep him. Given his stuff is still there, as we saw Saturday, I doubt he takes a long term deal. 6/80 IMO is the Sale deal with inflation. Sale signed 2 years in a 7/66 deal. -

He said he's tired of losing, Shields said it too. I think that is a sign. Jose is a pro and has done nothing but demolish AL pitching since he's been here. Can't say the same about Shields. -

This is what I said earlier. This is what i believe is right. It would be good publicity for the upcoming FA class as well. As long as Hahn, KW, JR and Abreu are the only ones who know the conversation took place it should be easy to keep it under wraps as well. -

My argument is that if Abreu himself wants to win, accommodate his wishes. Think of it as him asking for a trade. Why would they keep him here if he doesn't want to be here and they think so highly of him? You don't do that to Abreu. -

The best deal offered=his market value. Offers only get worse the less control and more expensive he gets. Do the guy a favor if he wants to win. -

If the Sox really think as highly of Abreu as they say they do, if he wants to win they should take the best deal offered. Dude is a pro and deserves it. -

Yeah. If I'm Hahn I go to Abreu and ask him what is more important to him, staying in Chicago or playing for a winner. Whichever he chooses, I'd accommodate for the remainder of his deal unless Hahn gets exactly what he wants. -
Yeah, that is it. Thanks. The most dangerous part for people is when you're at your lowest point. If you can start to feel better, you can get out. Bipolar is different than chronic depression because of the severe mood swings. One moment you feel invincible, the next you feel hopeless. Sometimes you go through both states on the same day unmedicated. Medication isn't a cure per se either, it just mitigates the mood swings. You still have the swings, but they are just once every few months instead of multiple times per month.

I think they should trade Abreu for his sake. Dude is a pro and deserves a chance to play for a winner. -

I agree that TDL 2019 is probably the right time to pull the trigger but they should listen both now and this coming winter. You never know what could get offered. Even if they don't move him, they could gain insight on completing a deal next July. -

I agree that Rodon will eventually come around. He oozes talent. The question is do you hold onto him for the next two seasons and see where you're at or do you trade him for a haul? I don't think he's gonna be here in 2022, which should be the heart of the competitive window. You only hire Boras if you want to get paid. Honestly, the 3.5 seasons of control he has at this moment has started the clock. The more control, the more you get in return(theoretically) You have the injury/performance issues as well. They have to maximize the return on Rodon, IMO, because he is the last major trade chip they have. Hahn is dumb if he doesn't maximize his value via trade. They have 4 chances to move him and get a haul. TDL 18-19 and winter 19-20. They have to pull the trigger at just the right time. -

They should consider moving both, But more likely Bruce Rondon. -
Rock, I know this. Part of my issue is when I get into the hole, I go to people I trust and eventually they don't want to hear it anymore, because they have their own issues. I just need someone to talk to, but people generally don't want to hear the intense negativity, because it tends to drag them down with you. Especially if they care about you. It has come to the point where most of my support network doesn't want to hear my negativity anymore. I tell them it is only temporary, and I need to discuss how I'm feeling at the moment, but after 20+ years of dumping on them, it has gotten to that point. It is incredibly frustrating.

Fans of the Ricky Gervais show I take it. That show was hilarious. -
I thought it was Volstad, but suit yourself.

Both have shown signs of life this year, so who should get the ABs? I lean towards platooning them, but who knows. I think Palka has been better honestly though. I guess you could try to hide Palka in LF but he's a butcher. Not against giving him reps there in a lost season. It's not like they have anyone else to play LF until Eloy gets the call.
