  1. When are they going to start Comp/Competitive balance round A?
  2. Also would want to take a chance on De Sedas, but it sounds like he's gonna fall pretty far due to signability.
  3. Hankins, McClanahan, Kowar or Rocker would all be on my list on the pitching side. Not as versed on hitters, so can't really tell you who's on my list there. I'd be shocked if any of them made it to 46 though.
  4. Can't see McClanahan falling past one of the Rays comp picks. USF is in Tampa, Can't imagine they'd pass up someone that talented in their backyard.
  5. Also wanted the Sox to take Giolito in 2012, they went with Hawkins instead. Somehow Giolito ended up with the Sox anyway, but he's broken down now. Would have been interesting to see what happened to him had the Sox drafted him. Theoretically, I would hope they would have had the foresight to not fix what wasn't broken.
  6. I wanted the Sox to take Trout so badly in 2009. Was disappointed went they went with Mitchell.
  7. This year: Mize, McClanahan, Kelenic, Liberatore, India, Gorman
  8. I meant in terms of how many bad players there were there. Pretty much only Hosmer/Posey made it out of that draft. Just looked at 2009. Only Strasburg, Pollock and Trout. A lot of crap otherwise. Just goes to show how much of a crapshoot the whole thing is. Yeah, 2009 might be a better comparison.
  9. What a fucking idiot. Why would anyone do that????
  10. I have a feeling that after Mize a lot of the guys that are picked in the top 12 in this draft are either going to completely bust or be bench players/fringe starters. The stars and everyday players are going to come in the 13-25 range. Why? because teams picking there will be more willing to take a risk on a guy they wouldn't in the top 10. We might be comparing this draft to 2008 in 5-10 years. Go look at that one. Bad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Major_League_Baseball_draft
  11. I hope they don't go with Singer. Again, IMO After Mize, from 2-20 they all fall into the same group. Stick your neck out for a guy who might be a star, not a guy who's just meh.
  12. That sinker that Covey is throwing up there is nasty.
  13. Really digging Beck's new album. This song is awesome and to boot it also shows up on MLB 18: The Show soundtrack. The sound is modern, and nothing like his 90s stuff, that I grew up listening to.
  14. I was on the McClanahan train for a while, either would be fine with me. With McClanahan, he has some major control issues. Again, I'd take him over Singer 7 days of the week and twice on Sunday. I just think that it is more acceptable to draft Liberatore top 10 than it would be McClanahan, I saw a mock draft(I think fangraphs) that had McClanahan at 37.
  15. It's Levineline, so I take it with a massive grain of salt.
  16. I think they profile as ML Regulars at best. I want them to go for a guy who could be a star. It is a shitty draft at the top, I'm ok with them taking that kind of risk in a bad draft where everyone from roughly 2-20 are on the same level. To reiterate, try to hit a homer, even if there is a greater chance of striking out.
  17. Honestly wouldn't mind going with Liberatore. Pick a high upside guy for cripes sake. Madrigal, India, Bohm, and Singer seem pretty meh to me. Wouldn't mind taking a guy with a higher chance of busting if he has much higher upside than the guys who I think profile as average major leaguers at best. You need to hit a HR at the top of the draft, even if there is a higher chance of striking out.
  18. Yes. Nobody knows the Sox exist except for those over 30. There are pretty much zero Sox fans under 20. The Sox have lost an entire generation of fans and I don't think they're getting them back. It is why I am concerned for the future of the Franchise in Chicago when JR kicks the bucket. It is the elephant in the room nobody wants to talk about. JR/KW blew a golden opportunity in 2009-10 offseason to rebuild then, and again in 2010-11. They should have done it then. The fact that it took the majority of the next decade for them to do it was inexcusable, IMO, and due to that there might as well be only one baseball team in town. The fact of the matter is for some reason, the Cubs "print money" and the Sox don't. I don't think there is much that can fix that.
  19. Nothing is truly free, you just pay more in taxes for what you get. The question we have to ask us do we pay more in taxes or do we pay more if higher education/healthcare is privatized. We know the answer to that. If we give those two things over to the government, the public has the ability to hold those who abuse the system accountable. While those systems are not controlled by the government, The public has no control on keeping costs down and no ability to change things. Private institutions can keep gouging prices and there is nothing the public can do about it.
  20. I don't think he's necessarily doomed, I haven't seen the guy pitch. However......When reports are that his fastball/sinker is 90-92, I treat that with incredible skepticism. He has to prove that he can get MLB hitters out before I believe he's actually a prospect.
  21. "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it" I heard that somewhere. I think we're about to repeat the era from the 1890s-1940s. They call it the 80 year rule, because the overwhelming majority of those who lived during that time are no longer living or no longer able to warn the people of the signs of the negative consequences of the actions those in power took in their early lives.
  22. I have a huge problem with TFA abnd TLJ. TFA is a re-make of NH and it is obvious. The lamest part of that movie was Han's death scene, where the scenery gave away what was going to happen, if you watched NH it was obvious what was going to happen there.... The new trilogy that is supposedly closing out the Skywalker family saga can only be reconciled with the Rey/Finn storyline if it is revealed through prequels that bloodlines mean nothing and the ability to harness the Force is completely random and a special gift, that the user can decide to use for good or evil. In any event, Now that Solo is out I have seen 3/4 of the new movies, and I know I am in the minority, but I think the prequels that tell the story of Darth Vader's rise have aged better than most give them credit for, and that as bad as TPM was, both TFA and TLJ were 10x worse as movies. What keeps me hoping they get better was Rogue One, which I thought was an excellent movie and a great bridge between ROS and NH. I'm more interested in a new series of films that I'd like to see called Star Wars Origins, where they tell the story of the origins of both the Jedi and Sith orders, and the struggle between them, ending right before TPM.
  23. I don't think that number is inflated, I actually think it is closer to accurate than people give it credit for. Despite the current norms, Homosexuality an Bisexuality have been a thing throughout human history, and it has been suppressed by cultural means since the the rise of Christianity and Islam over a roughly 400 year period. Kids born from 1996 on have always been exposed to gay people, and it isn't a taboo for them like it was for the 1500 years prior. We're just going back to normal human behavior. If you read about the ancients, it was always a thing from the dawn of civilization through the ancient Greek/Roman eras. Post fall of Rome, it became a cultural taboo. We've opened our eyes a bit to diversity, and it shouldn't be looked at as weird or different. IMO it has always been a part of being human, and to say otherwise is delusional and ignoring history. Honestly, I think the majority of the population is probably bisexual but they have been culturally taught to suppress those feelings. Humans have evolved to the point that sex is not only about procreation anymore. Before the invention of 'safe sex' aids (whether birth control for women or condoms for men) there was always a good chance of heterosexual sex leading to procreation. Not so anymore, which bothers traditionalists. I just think that we, here in the US, are a sexually repressed culture and need to lighten up quite a bit on the subject in many ways. Instead of continuing the traditional ideas about sex, we shoiuld evolve our thinking and explore what the true normal is, because in my opinion it sure as hell isn't what we think it is.
  24. He is garbage. I have no idea how he gets anyone out. He sucks. it won't last. He might have 3-5 good seasons, but isn't going to last.
  25. All of those guys can reach back for 95 when they need to, maybe Maeda and Odorizzi can't but the rest can, They might not average 93 but you'd bet your ass they average over 92. Also Porcello Ross and Kluber have excellent sinkers which kinda changes the equation a bit.
