  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:54 AM) None of that is applicable here, but hey, rant on. Quit deflecting. You and I know that was a jab at labor unions. Those who have plenty and want more are greedy. Those who have less and want more are fighting for the right to be comfortable or exist in some cases. Read my addendum to the quoted post.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:25 AM) Oh millionaire athlete's can't handle working more, cry me a river greedy bastards... [see how absurd that sounds] No it isn't absurd. Organized labor has been under attack since it formed, and collective bargaining is not done in good faith anymore. You are not your job. Your ability to provide for yourself and your family should not be compromised because your boss wants to put you in an unsafe work environment. Your job=/=your life and self worth. I know we have differences politically but geez man, quit defending people hoarding money. If you're not a multimillionaire your arguments are counterproductive to your own self interest. If you were offered a job and were told it was going to pay extremely well, well enough that if you worked there for 5 years you would be independently wealthy. but when you got there you found out you were being exposed to chemicals that could have devastating neurological effects on your body. If you worked there for 10 years, you would make a ton of money but you lose the use of your dominant arm. You might have to have surgery to keep working, and you may or may not still get paid during your recovery. This is the real life analogy to being a pitcher.
  3. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:16 AM) I don't know how I would feel about a retractable roof rule, but they could make it more nuanced than what everyone is talking about. They could require that every new stadium north of a certain point or with certain average temperatures is built with a retractable roof. Stadiums that already exist don't have to have retractable roofs but you could incentivize them to do so by offering those stadiums all star games or not allowing them at stadiums without retractable roofs for a long period of time. Something along those lines would hopefully get enough teams to get domes that teams like the Cubs or Red Sox could keep their stadiums but play most of the series at the start of the year in warm weather or domed stadiums. Combine that with series at the beginning of the year being matched to midsummer series so that the series locations could just be switched and ticket holders could be alerted to this when purchasing tickets, and most of the weather related cancellations should be gone. This should have been done 30 years ago.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:57 AM) Disadvantage: 1) The billions in taxpayer money to retrofit stadiums with a retractable roof. You can't expect owners to pay for this themselves The big 4 sports are so ridiculously profitable that there is zero reason for any stadium to be publicly funded anymore. Owners have the money they just don't want to spend it. Cry me a f***ing river you greedy bastards.
  5. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:05 AM) Scheduled double headers has been my proposed solution to this for years. I would like to see the season start 2 weeks later and end a week earlier and make up the difference with scheduled double headers. MLBPA will never agree to that, as it puts too much pressure on pitchers.
  6. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:44 AM) Blowing up two historical landmarks, especially Fenway, solely for a retractable roof....is a horrible idea. They don't have to blow them up. They can use it for other things as well as playing one homestand a month there when the weather is conducive to doing so. They can have HS tournaments there, etc.
  7. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:38 AM) Never happen. There's a better chance of reducing the regular season back to 154 games (or less) or bringing back double headers or readjusting the schedule like the did in the late 80's / early 90's so that teams in moderate or warmer weather climates are basically at home the first week / 10 days. Advantages of making retractable roofs mandatory: 1. NO Weather delays/game cancellations. 2 Both players and fans are always comfortable, which makes for a better on field product and viewing experience for fans.
  8. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:09 AM) Ever attend a midsummer day game when it is 100 degrees and your seat has no shade? That is just as miserable as the cold. If all stadiums have a retractable roof, then both players and fans are always comfortable, which makes for a better product.
  9. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 08:56 AM) Is there any way to make the first month?€™s games in southern areas and domes? Or does it just become completely unfair after a week or two Becomes unfair. I think they seriously need to make retractable roofs mandatory. If they have to retrofit stadiums, so be it. Basically all stadiums outside of FL and SoCal, need one. This is also for purely selfish reasons, as it would force the Cubs to move from Wrigley and they lose that advantage over the Sox. I'd hate for the Sawx to lose Fenway, but so be it. They can keep Fenway/Wrigley as a historical monument and maybe play a series there in mid-summer.
  10. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 08:47 AM) The MLB is so stupid for starting baseball so early. They have to do one of two things: Either cut off 3 weeks of the season and don't start until late April, or make retractable roofs mandatory for all stadiums north of 35 N latitude. The latter is more plausible. .
  11. Guys, the weather is really bad this coming homestand. It is barely going to break 40 for most of the homestand, with it barely breaking freezing over the entirety of the weekend. Doesn't look to get over 45 until Wednesday. I used the zip code for the area next to the ballpark, as I know it because I used to go to IIT. https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/60616:4:US
  12. I'm ok with Minaya getting innings out of the pen, but Farquhar and Infante need to go.
  13. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 07:44 PM) Missed his last AB, so this is more a delayed statement from earlier, but I?€™ve always been baffled about why Moncada excites people. Strikes out waaaaay too much. Think Kopech will be the actual prize from the Sale trade, and it won?€™t even be close. Also, is there anyone left who thinks Saladino doesn?€™t suck? I called that one a while ago. I'm not sold on Kopech as a starter. Don't think his change will end up being viable. I do think Kopech will be a hell of a closer. I'm higher on Moncada as a hitter than I am on Kopech as a pitcher. Moncada will probably k 150 times in a season, but I expect him to be Cano with speed eventually. He has too good of an eye for the Zone to not hit eventually. Moncada absolutely crushed some balls in KC that were held in the park by wind and cold weather. Let's not overreact to small sample sizes. Moncada will be fine.
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 07:36 PM) This pitching staff is going to be absolutely brutal until Rodon and Kopech are around. Do you expect Lopez and Giolito to be bad too? Then, you're right. That one will be in orbit for the foreseeable future. Wow Avi.
  15. It will be funny 3 years from now when they're trading Dunn, Markkanen and LaVine because they can't get out of purgatory. Hopefully GarPax will be gone by then.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 08:48 PM) 6 inning save? Gonna be rough on the elbow He misspoke. He meant a 6 out save.
  17. Offense looks like crap tonight. I wish they would do something against these bums.
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 08:10 PM) Decent start for Lucas after all of that. Offense needs to wake up. You think Renteria throws him out there for the 7th or not? Would be interesting if he does. Still only 89 pitches.
  19. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 08:00 PM) He has been at 92 at times. My issue isn't the velocity, but the location of his secondary pitches. I don't think he has spotted 1 all night in the right spot. He has hit a batter, tossed a wild pitch, another 3 or 4 have gone to the backstop, has walks, has been behind all night, threw 1 pitch BEHIND a hitter and somehow the kid has found a way to battle through. That all said, against someone like Cleveland this game would have been over by now. I agree, he's missed his spots a bunch. If Sanchez didn't save his ass on the liner it would look much worse. Like I said I think he can't get loose and it is affecting his throwing motion, leading to both the missed spots and decreased FB velo.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 07:56 PM) That was impressive though. He's battling and got out of that with no runs. I agree. Always been a Gio homer, but I don't think he can get loose tonight. Everything I heard was that his velo was up in spring, and the results showed that. I wasn't expecting him to be throwing this slow in his first start.
  21. Geez, they can't go squandering scoring opportunities like that.
  22. Honestly there is a huge variance with the Sox win total this season. I could see them winning anywhere from 62-85 games, and none of it would be a surprise to me. Since I have to pick, I'm going to say somewhere in the 77-82 win range. Mostly because the Tigers and Royals are gawd awful. In a normal division I'd be more in the 68-74 win range, which is where I see their true talent level at based on the opening day roster.
