  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 21, 2018 -> 05:06 PM) This is why Tom Brady is the GOAT. He's not. He's an average QB who has been the beneficiary of having the best coach in NFL history. He had zero to do with any of his wins. They won 3 SBs because of his kicker and 2 because the opposing coaching staff pissed themselves. He deserves zero rings, and I give 100% of the credit of the Pats to Belichick, and zero to Brady. Right place at right time. The year that they won 11 games with Matt f***ing Cassell at QB proved this to me. Would people say he was the GOAT if he was 3-4 in Super Bowls instead of 5-2? No. I rest my case. He SHOULD BE 3-4 in Super Bowls. That is a losing record mind you. To me, even though this thought is a a consensus, it is an insult to my football intelligence to say otherwise. Brady and Favre are the most overrated QBs in NFL history and it isn't even close.
  2. JFC, could it be more obvious what the refs were going to do there? That was OPI and anyone who isnt wearing NE goggles knows it.
  3. New rule: All Vikings content reported must be given in a thick Minnesota accent. Each sentence must contain at least one of the following: ohh yaaa, ya sure, you betcha or don'tcha know.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 01:39 PM) The players wouldn't want a floor, because a floor comes with a ceiling. But a ceiling would be good for the game. Pittsburgh and KC each had short runs after about 25-30 years of totally sucking, now they are done. The only difference is in the playoffs, KC made 2 improbable comebacks and played in 2 WS and won 1, and the Pirates just lost all the time in the postseason. The current model isn't sustainable for most of the league. By accepting the current CBA, with the punitive penalties for exceeding the luxury tax, they already have agreed to a "soft cap" of sorts, so the ceiling has already been given to the owners by the players. Right now, there is a ceiling but no floor which is horrible for the players. If there is a ceiling, there MUST be a floor otherwise you see what is happening this offseason. Since they have already given the ceiling, they might as well go to the cap and floor model because otherwise there is no help. Baseball also should use a rule similar to the "Bird rule" in the NBA where if you have drafted or internationally signed a player, they are exempt from the cap if you re-sign that player. You only get to use it once though, and it is considered in use until said player's contract expires.
  5. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 10:50 PM) They legitimately can’t. It can’t be done. You can trade Kane, but he isn’t full of value based on the dollar amount. Toews value is shot. You can argue the contract is just bad now. Keith has taken a huge step back this season and is signed through 22-23. Good luck. Seabrook? LOL. Oh, and I’m pretty sure all of them have NTCs This is the core moving forward. I know it is tough on them. All of their contracts are pretty tough going forward. Basically what I meant was considering moving Kane. I think Keith still has a good enough reputation currently that you could move him if you wanted to as well. They have to start thinking about what to do moving forward, especially if this is basically career ending for Crawford. Didn't end well for Jonas Hiller. Tough decisions ahead for Rocky and the Bowmans.
  6. If I'm Stan, I'm starting to make calls about pending UFAs, seeing what I could get for them. Central/West is too tough in 18. Reload, hopefully with a top 5 pick and go at it again in 18-19. Obviously if Crawford is done forever you have to start thinking about blowing the thing to smithereens.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 09:29 PM) Jeff Glass, Conn Smythe trophy winner? If there was any doubt a few days ago, now I definitely agree with your previous post, they just aren't good. Interesting how Laz is just reporting it today from three sources, just a coincidence or did people.choose to leak it now? There was a bunch of ridiculous speculation going on. They had to make a statement of some kind because the speculation was wacky, all over the place, and was painting CC in a very negative light. They had to say something to protect CC from negative rumor mongering.
  8. Read this article. It makes very good points. https://sports.yahoo.com/heres-baseballs-ec...-224638354.html
  9. Am I the only one who hates the current NFL playoff format? I think that hockey is the only sport that should have more than 8 teams in the playoffs. I'd do away with divisions, keep the 16 game schedule and play each team in your conference once, and the team that finished in the corresponding spot in the opposite conference. So if you are the Giants, you play the Browns, based on my schedule. Then, the top 4 teams in each conference make the playoffs. Any and all tiebreakers can be decided by H2H or point differential vs the 15 in conference opponents, in the rare case of a tie.
  10. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 02:09 PM) McDaniels to the Colts. Should be interesting to see what happens there if Luck isn't healthy. I think McDaniels will want to move on if he doesn't trust Luck's shoulder anymore Reports are this isn't done anymore, as the Titans job has opened, and is McDaniels' first choice of job. Colts will have to fight it out with the Titans for his services. EDIT: McDaniels still going to Colts.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 05:15 PM) Hansen will not be forcing the issue in 2018. He has 68 innings above low-A ball. He's in the position Kopech was last year - he'll get a nearly full year in BHam and possibly a callup to Charlotte late if he earns it. By 2019 they could be talking about 6 pitchers, but that's a whole lot of things going right. Name one team that is 6/6 in developing pitchers from AAA to the Bigs with no failures and no injuries. If somehow that top 5 is clicking in 2019, then not only will it be useful to have Hansen as the 6th starter to fill in when someone does hit the DL, but I won't be mad putting him in the bullpen in September and October. I think they might be able to be more aggressive with Hansen than they were with Kopech because Hansen has more pro innings in 2017 alone than Kopech had entering 2017. Kopech only threw ~125 pro innings before last season due to injury and being a HS draftee. I think Hansen might be up for a cup of coffee in September this year, but if he really dominates AA and AAA by August, he might force the issue.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 05:03 PM) I'd actually say this is backwards right now - the White Sox have too many ML ready hitters. They acquired a bunch of AAAA caliber players last year in the Swarzak, Robertson, and Jennings trades, and they have a bunch of AAAA caliber guys of their own. Right now we have more IFs than we have room for and more OFs than we have room for in the big leagues and AAA - which is why it's really important to play these guys this year, so that we can whittle down to a few needs for the next offseason. We have pitchers throughout the organization, but we're not busting at the seams with major leaguers, at least not yet. Throwing in injuries like Rodon, we're not going to have a rotation that is overflowing until at least 2020, and that's if everything goes well. Frankly, we could use more pitching depth at the lower levels. If Hansen and Kopech force the issue by midseason, and Rodon returns then they suddenly have 6 pitchers to see if they're starters for 5 spots. Rodon, Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Kopech, Hansen. Might actually be a good time to try a 6 man rotation to keep innings down. I do agree they have a ton of AAAA guys right now. But if they are actually AAAA guys, what does it matter? People get hurt in ST, and they might be able to finagle someone with upside from a team desperate for help at a position where a player got hurt. No big loss if they have to be DFA, and someone would probably give up something for the guys who don't make the team.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 05:02 PM) I think to get a top 5 pick we’ll need to sell off Lopez, Holliday and Niko. Yes, and they need to do it ASAP. Even that might not be enough at this point.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 04:43 PM) Bulls are annoying Yes, seems they may have hit a home run in the Butler deal. They are skirting really close to dropping out of the top 10. Out of non-Playoff teams, only Philly, the Clippers and the Knicks have more wins than the Bulls at 17. They are tied in the win column with the Jazz and Hornets. I don't think they're going to have even a top 10 pick. You have to wonder what is going through the minds of GarPax right now.
  15. Honestly with the market tilting greatly toward buyers, I'd be willing to consider trading some of the back end top 10 guys and some other guys with upside for available players with control. Honestly, I think there could be another deal with the Cubs in the future, with the Sox swapping some pitching prospects for ML ready hitters. They have too many hitters, Sox have a ton of pitching depth. I think it makes too much sense, similar to the Q deal.
  16. The bigger question is what to do with Avi......Market seems bad for everyone, especially guys with 2 years of control or less left. I really don't think there is room for him in our future outfield. Sox don't have anyone with any sort of potential for future relevance to play CF in the Majors this year unless you think Engel may be able to hit...I don't. If they could get either Tapia or Dahl from Colorado plus a couple fliers I think I'd take it at this point, but I doubt Colorado would part with either of them. Do you trust Avi to have another good season? I don't so that is why I feel this is a dilemma.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 14, 2018 -> 01:46 PM) I still don’t see how the Cubs will be successful on their own. They don’t have nearly the historical significance of the Yankees and even the YES Network has the Nets during the off-season. I think if the Cubs were smart they’d partner with the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks wouldn't partner with the Cubs, because IIRC Wirtz/Reinsdorf have a pretty good partnership due to sharing the UC. The Cubs, will in fact, be on their own because the Hawks and Reinsdorf teams are more in line with each other than they are with the Cubs. Bears really don't matter, because the NFL is purely national broadcasts. I'd love to see this fail spectacularly because they don't have anyone else to put on their channel.
  18. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 13, 2018 -> 08:30 PM) The homer calls for New England are so infuriating. This times infinity. Refs wear Pats gear under their unis. I had to stop myself from throwing my remote through my new tv. If NE wins another SB I may puke.
  19. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 13, 2018 -> 05:25 PM) Kinda sad that we'll miss out on trae young Not guaranteed, but most likely. Remember, Bulls only had a 1.6% chance of jumping into the top 3 when they got Rose. Could lightning strike twice? The only way that they have a zero chance of getting a top 3 is if they make the playoffs. At this point, any jump into the top 3 is an awesome stroke of luck, even if they don't win by getting 1OA.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 26, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) http://money.cnn.com/2017/12/26/news/econo...ains/index.html Those first 3-4 paragraphs are a pretty compelling argument why tax cuts aren’t going to be a great boost to consumer spending...most of the growth will take place on the corporate profitability side of the ledger. Don’t see how that’s going to increase job/wage growth, since productivity and salary gains have been decoupled since the early 1980’s. I think this is why our corporate overlords have given people the proverbial middle finger since then. They figured out that increasing salary only increases productivity so much, and so they are asking people to do more work with less benefits and salary, because they don't get anything out of it with the way things were working. The only people who seem to be "getting ahead" or even making ends meet these days are those who put their career above everything else in life. It is their way of taking control of the masses back. People were actually being happy, having fun while not working, being able to take nice vacations, being able to afford nice things, etc. They are saying "No. f*** You. You can't have those things. They are mine and you can't have them."
  21. I despise all of the "hot names" in coaching this offseason. Have a horrible feeling whoever they pick, they are doomed. Pick a name out of a hat, why dontcha, because everyone's getting s***canned in 2020.
  22. No, control problems have a bunch to do with it as well. Spin=the scouting term "late life/break" As in they can quantify that scout speak term now.
  23. Well, looks like they may get an L with this one, but it was way too close for comfort. NO MORE DUMB WINS.
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 31, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) I know there are still games to be played, but what are we looking at puck wise? Just not sure how the tiebreakers shake out. I believe it depends on the outcome of SF, DEN and TB. If all 3 win, they move up to 6. If they all lose, they pick 9. Any combination of wins and losses, you can do the math. TB is the only team that would pick lower than the Bears in a grouping of teams having the same record, league wide as TB and the Bears had the strongest and 2nd strongest opponents winning percentage, respectively. EDIT: Muddy on whether the Bears or TB would pick higher were they to tie.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) I'd be ok with that. The White Sox are already swimming in talent. If they get a #12 draft pick this year instead of #8, I don't think that changes my goal of 100+ wins in 2020 one bit. Very different from the Bulls, where they need to find top flight talent, likely in the draft, and these wins are in the way. Yeah, you're right. GarPax can't even tank correctly. They are the most LOL worthy FO in sports. Also, is Dunn hurt? I haven't seen him in a few games. EDIT: Dunn is on the floor now.
