Lopez/Giolito/Kopech/Moncada/Fulmer sent down
Jack Parkman replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Repeat after me: WE HAVE TO BE PATIENT. SOME GUYS WILL TAKE TIME TO BE GOOD. With Giolito, the Nats messed around with his delivery. Idk why the Sox don't watch video of when he was throwing 98 and go back to that. Just let the guy do what feels natural. We all saw how that worked on the North Side with Arrieta. It will take time for him to refine his mechanics to where he and/or the Sox want them, because they are fairly complex. NOT EVERYONE WILL BE HERE AND PRODUCING RIGHT AWAY. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) That's fine. It's not going to be Pittsburgh though. I still think Yankees and Astros most likely. Oh I agree. I was just responding to the silly trade that the PIT writer gave. Makes sense only for the Pirates.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) Exactly. If Hahn is still insisting on Austin Meadows, then there is no deal with Pittsburgh. The next 7 seasons of Meadows could be more valuable to them than the next 4 years of Quintana. Some Sox fans are failing to understand that. The Pirates aren't trading Meadows. They will trade McCutchen at midseason and plug in Meadows. This is how that team is forced to operate. Quintana doesn't push them past the Cubs. Pirates are probably willing to trade Glasnow, Keller, Newman possibly. Hahn insisting on Meadows is probably why a deal isn't done and not getting done in the future either. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) While this may be their mindset, it doesn't justify their decision. A top of the rotation starter on a cheap deal for four years is much more rare and valuable than an OF, especially when you already have two other stud cheap OFs signed long-term. If they trade Meadows, they could find another number of options to fill their third OF spot. They simply cannot find a single option to replace what Quintana would bring them. (Similar thing could be said for the Astros and Bregman.) Took the words right out of my brain. Nice Job Buehrlesque. From the Sox perspective, they have to get that stud position player in THIS DEAL. Q is their last major trade chip. They can't trade it for more right handed pitching. We have enough of that. Ideally, the Q package only includes position players, or 1 pitcher in a 4-for-1 deal.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Not that I disagree because I'd rather have Meadows but what is wrong with Bell? Are you the one that said he was too much like Viciedo (which is completely inaccurate) a while back? No power, no defense.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) The Pirates aren't trading Austin Meadows. He's their McCutchen replacement. Amazing that this still needs to be said. Nothing to see here then about Q to Pirates then. Move along.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 01:36 AM) Not that I disagree with your main point, but if you're looking for guys with the upside of Moncada & Kopech, you'll never be moving Quintana. Those guys have arguably the highest ceilings in the entire minors. Oh I know that very few players, if any have the upside of Moncada and Kopech. Their ceilings are so great that it didn't take another T100 guy to move Chris Sale. Because players like them don't exist very often, let alone in the same system. Quintana is going to appear to be "more expensive" than Sale, simply because the ceilings of the players in return are lower. I'd argue that Moncada and Kopech have the highest ceilings of any MiLB position player and pitcher in the game, and that is why it only took them as T100 to get Sale. We should be so lucky that the Sawx didn't stay horrible after 2014.

I'd like to change my handle to Jack Parkman, as an homage to MLII. The Indians are the best team in the ALC again, so while that is going on, I'd like this as my anti-Indians handle.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 12:08 AM) http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/zeise-i...version=pgevoke Pittsburgh writer suggests Quintana for Glasnow, Keller, & Bell. Would you guys take that deal if offered or wait for something better? I'm torn here because it's obviously a ton of talent, but I hate that the one positional prospect we'd be getting is more of a 1B/DH type. No. Pittsburgh HAS to part with Meadows. We need another blue chip position player in this deal. I'm not sold on Bell, and neither are the fangraphs guys. They think he won't hit for power, and he's a DH basically. Meadows/Keller or Glasnow, based on who the Sox like better/Hayes/Lotto ticket is what it would take from PIT for me to make a deal. However it starts with Meadows and either Keller or Glasnow. No Meadows no deal with Pirates. None of those guys has the upside of Moncada and Kopech in my opinion.

Anyone have any scouting reports on Giolito's start today? Velo back up? Been looking on Twitter can't find anything.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
Jack Parkman replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 19, 2017 -> 06:53 PM) With the Cubs, my price starts with Baez + Jiminez, if Baez/Zobrist are bouncing around the diamond. A Q to Cubs deal makes too much sense for both sides. Seriously. It is a shame that it will never happen. -
QUOTE (GermanSock @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 04:07 PM) I think the velocity will come back. What I'm concerned about more is the reports on the low spin rate (little movement) on the fastball. Even when he was hitting 94 his swinging strike rates were not great. Not sure what do make out of this. Maybe he should add another pitch that is less dependent on spin (sinker), I don't know. If his command was better the straight fastball would be less of an issue (I think kershaws 4 seamer is also pretty straight) but if your heater is straight and not located well it is going to get hammered even at 94 (maybe he would get away with it at 100). QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) He gets this year in AAA to see if what he has works. If not, I agree you see if he can become a sinkerballer. Being a power pitcher with his lack of spin rate on his fastball won't work if his velocity remains in low 90s I don't think he has little movement on his fastball, I think he has the opposite problem that he doesn't know where it is going because it has wicked movement. He's mostly been throwing a 2-seamer from what I have seen, granted I saw his 2 best starts. If he can get back to 96 again and somehow have the same movement that I've seen with finally knowing where it is going, he will be really nasty. Remember, it is going to take some time with him to figure it out, we can't give up on him as fans. The Nats messed with his mechanics, and Cooper and the minor league staff have to watch video of where he was when he was throwing 96-98 and figure out what he was doing differently then. Also, Giolito's mechanics are fairly complex and it could take a season or two for the light bulb to go on.
-
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) I don't have pitchFX data in front of me, but I'm pretty sure his velocity was down in his 1st ST start too. Giolito had nothing, JJ Cooper from BA tweeted that he was 90-92, with one pitch at 93 hope he can get his mechanics/velocity straightened out at AAA otherwise we got screwed on Eaton(maybe).
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 10:24 PM) Dudes looked lost at the plate this spring. Agreed. Moncada should not start at AAA, I'd start him at AA if I was Hahn. He should also not see any Major League time until September at the earliest unless he proves otherwise. By proving otherwise, he'd have to absolutely destroy AA and AAA( like .350/.425/.975 or better) to get called up before September. Moncada could still be a star, but he's clearly nowhere close to ready. He needs to spend the entire season in the minors, IMO.
-
Unfortunately, the schmuck coming in next gives up the inherited runner.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 06:33 PM) JQINAA? Speak English? C'mon, you don't remember when Buehrle used to get shelled on occasion people used to type MBINAA, which meant that Buehrle is not an ace? You've been here long enough to know that.
-
The question any prospective buyer has is whether they believe JQINAA. I think he is an ace. This proves it. He may not have the sexy K numbers, but the goal is to get outs and he does that better than about 10 to 15 pitchers. He still strikes out 175-180 per year over the last two so that isn't too shabby.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) Elgin...In case you hadn't seen it, below is a link to a new study that seems to be showing some promising leads as it relates to autism. World is lucky I'm not a scientist as I would have never put two and two together. Hopefully this truly is a breakthrough and from here they can get closer on treating autism (would also be nice to know what the cause is of the increasing rates of autism). http://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyles/h...0130-story.html Maybe this would make life better, maybe it wouldn't. The point that I was trying to make though, is that we need to move beyond awareness, to acceptance. The reason why there are more people with Autism are: a) better understanding and recognition about what autism is (i.e. that it isn't just nonverbal and sensory issues) and diagnoses for that, b) disability is less stigmatized than it used to be. In the past people with mental health issues or autism would be institutionalized indefinitely. Not so anymore. That in and of itself is a big difference, but not enough. The way I like to look at it is that I am an "alien" (and by "alien" I mean ET not an immigrant) that is trying to assimilate into society and is finding it difficult if not impossible. People look at you funny. I'm not shy about being on the spectrum. When I go to find work I disclose and I won't do it any other way. If they don't hire me then f*** off. I don't want to work for you anyway. Unfortunately, I have had to tell almost everyone to f*** off so far. I am an unusual case, as I am not shy about meeting people, talking to strangers etc. I am very extroverted. I like being around people. My confidence is shot because of the constant rejection by society. I want to fight for people like myself, and take it an extra step further. All in all, there has to be give and take for both an autistic person and the neurotypicals they interact with, in order to make a place for us. There are studies out there that prove that an autistic person will greatly outperform an NT at work in the right setting and given proper support. Being in the right setting is the easy part, giving the proper support is the hard one. IDK when or who will do what needs to be done. We're valuable, and nobody is giving us a chance to prove ourselves. Start up companies need not exist to give autistic people employment. Anyone can do it, and whoever does will be ahead of the curve. Microsoft, SAP and Ford are being the pioneers. Let's hope others follow suit. Things are on the up and up(I hope) Let's see who creates a program next.

New content today. Also, please be sure to read the archive. Hilarious stuff.

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Mar 4, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) Would be encouraging to see Giolito's velocity up a bit today. That, and for him to miss bats in the rest of his time in this game. I don't care if you throw 96 if you don't miss bats it doesn't matter, and it defeats the purpose.

David Price Reports are Surgery NOT needed..
Jack Parkman replied to NCsoxfan's topic in The Diamond Club
Probably slim to no interest. As others have said, it would be irresponsible for Dombrowski to trade for Q. However, he may be a special case due to the 4 years of control. It would be nice to grab more from them, but I doubt they will do it. -
Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) Teams are afraid of pitchers, particularly young ones. Sox may have exploited a market inefficiency grabbing 3 of the top 5 farm arms in baseball + a 2016 1st rounder. Their targeting of those guys does not fit with conventional wisdom around the league, really the only team doing something similar is the Braves. Sox betting against the league...if it works they'll be nearly unstoppable. We can thank the Chicago National League Ballclub for that. I saw it more as the Sox are trying to target hitters close to the majors or very far away because they realize they have been having a hard time developing hitting, as they clean out the system of the instructors who aren't teaching hitting properly and getting results. Also, they are grabbing pitching because they know they can develop it. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) Rodon has proven nothing. His value would be disappointing because of that. You could say the same about Bregman or Benintendi. What is the difference? Less exposure in the Majors? Fangraphs has an article that Rodon was hurt by bad catchers last season. You could see the step forward when Navarro was traded by watching games. -

QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) OK, thanks. So it's not about any feuds with Boras, it's about the certainty of the player going to FA and being unable to sign them and keep them around. It makes sense. I didn't think about that. I guess I'm not GM material. Yes, exactly. A player hires Boras for one reason: To get paid in FA. They usually fire him if they aren't a TOR starter or superstar position player, and stay put with their team. See John Danks. -

Agreed. For example, I think the "right deal" for Rodon is someone like Bregman+? Same upside of position player and a little extra tax for being dumb and not taking him themselves.
