  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) 1 inherited runner has scored this year. BS. Buehrle left the first game against the Cubs with a 3-1 lead and runners on 1st and 2nd. They both scored. I'm sure that he has had more runs charged to him after he left the game countless other times this season.
  2. I take back the comment I made about Jose throwing his fastball from the 3/4 arm angle. He's throwing 87-89 from there now.
  3. IMO if you make this trade Buchholz has to be involved. If this team had any sort of offense and any sort of bullpen then Buehrle would have about 9 wins and an ERA under 3 because of all of the inherited runners that the bullpen lets score.
  4. I agree with Jason. The starting point is Ellsbury and Buchholz and they have to decide whether or not they want to give up Bard or Bowden. Maybe we could throw in Broadway and they could throw in Crisp or Pena(who they want to get rid of anyway) to make it a little more attractive to them.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) Contreras is throwing about 6 mph harder when he goes over the top. I noticed that too. I think that Jose should throw his fastball/forkball from the 3/4 slot and the sinker/slider from the side. If Jose throws his fastball from the 3/4 slot consistently I think he could get back to 93-94, and if he does that, he'll start having better starts, and his trade value will skyrocket.
  6. Lets say we get the #2 pick so Alvarez is gone. Then what? Who is the college pitcher with the best stuff?
  7. ESPN is reporting that the Sox are ready to trade Buehrle to the Red Sox. Dream scenario: Buchholz, Ellsbury, Bowden for Mark.
  8. Yeah, C is the correct answer. 16x-8=8(2x-1) because 16x/8=2x and 8/8 =1. However, if you have a problem like 3x/9x-5, it is completely illegal to break it into the math sentence 1/3-3/5x. BTW if anyone has a math question in differential equations or a lower class(Calculus, college algebra, trig, etc.) feel free to PM me and I'll answer if I have the time. I can't help with statistics, so please don't PM me on those questions.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 12:05 AM) There's going to be a grand total of 3 very good free agent starting pitchers on the market after this season, Buehrle, Zambrano and Jennings, it isn't exactly stiff competition. Meaning all Buehrle has to do is fall within the top 20 percent of free agent starting pitchers (or is it pitchers? I'm not sure not that it matters there aren't many good relievers either) to qualify as a Type A free agent . A typical Buehrle season this year should put him in the top 20%. I misunderstood the top 20% thing. I thought that in order for a player to qualify as a type A free agent they had to be top 20% in all of baseball, players already under contract included. However what you said makes more sense now that I think about it because how in the hell would Frank Catallanato(sp?) be considered a type A free agent if that was the case?
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 11:43 PM) Honel and Whisler are non-factors in trades, and the only thing you are going to get for one of those two is a AAA reliever. It's going to cost someone with just a bit more upside; anyone from MacDougal to Haeger to Russell. If we could get him for Haeger straight up then I'm sure Kenny would make that trade. It seems that the organization is not high on Haeger, and he has pretty much sucked this year.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) Major League baseball designates a player's compensatory value based on their production the 2 years before they hit free agency. Hence the only reason why Dye will be a Type A free agent. And the reason why Buehrle isn't going to be a Type A free agent. Mark had a 5 ERA last season, and only won 12 games while striking out 98 batters the whole season. He'll probably have a 3.30-3.50 ERA and 8-11 wins this year with 12-14 losses based on horrible run support. If we don't trade him, and he walks we'll lose him for nothing. Kenny has to make a final offer within the coming weeks and if he declines, then adios, and thanks for the memories.
  12. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:27 AM) I don't think Dye is healthy. And he certainly won't be getting better leading up the trade deadline. The sox will be better off offering him arb. and getting the picks for him. But will he still qualify as a type A free agent after this awful season? I think that that is a legitimate question here. The same with Buehrle after his 4.99 ERA last season. I think that they look at the previous two seasons to determine that, and if JD finishes with a .245 BA 20 HR 60 RBI .750 OPS line will that be enough to offset his season last year? If Buehrle finishes the season with a 10-14 record and a 3.55 ERA will that be enough to offset last year's horrible season. I honestly don't believe that if Buehrle walks that we'll receive type A compensation for him due to the fact that his ERA was basically 5 last year and that I don't think that he'll win more than 10 games this season because the team sucks so badly.
  13. If he could be had for someone like a Kris Honel or Wes Whisler then go for it. It certainly couldn't hurt. I just wouldn't give up anyone who has a chance to make it to the major leagues for him. Also, the Cubs would have to send some $$$ over with him.
  14. If we suck so badly the rest of the season that we get a top 5 pick in next year's draft, then what would you prefer seen done? would you rather go for a 5 tool position player, or a pitcher with stuff that compares to Verlander? IMO the only way that I don't take the pitcher is if the some of the players on the team are traded for a pitcher with that kind of ability. I'd like to see a young pitcher break through to the majors with the Sox that has serious stuff. I haven't seen that for a while but am crossing my fingers with Poreda Does anyone have an idea who the top pitchers and position players are in the 2008 draft, or is it impossible to know this early?
  15. what's the scouting report on this guy? What does he throw, how good are his pitches and how hard are they?
  16. Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste. A taste of honey tasting much sweeter than wine Spill the wine, take that girl
  17. I think that the days of trading prospects for a rental player are over. Teams will only trade for a rental player if they can get them for marginal major league talent(AAAA players), other rental players, or albatross contracts. First let me define what a rental player is: A rental player is a player with less than 2 years left on his contract. Freddy Garcia, when we traded him, was a rental player to the Phillies. If we traded Jon Garland to a team, he'd be a rental player. The best available talent we could get for Buehrle is J.D. Drew and his $70 million dollar contract. If Jason Schmidt wasn't hurt, but he sucked, we could get him too. After the 2005 Marlins firesale, GMs are afraid of giving up Anibal Sanchez and Hanley Ramirez for a rental player. Despite the fact that Boston signed Beckett to a long term deal, I'm sure that they believe that Sanchez and Ramirez>>>Beckett and Lowell.(I know, Sanchez is hurt now, but he did throw a no hitter) There is no guarantee that the player will sign with your club, and now, with the free agent market the way it is, there is basically no chance that a player will not test the market, and sign with whomever offers the most $$$. It is of the utmost importance in today's baseball world to have good amateur scouts, because you are not getting prospects with legitiment major league talent from any other organization anymore. There is only one way to build a championship caliber team now: you have to draft well, and pay big bucks to the free agents. There is no alternative, because if a team thinks that a player in their minor leagues has a chance to be even a league average player, then he is staying with that team until he proves that he cannot play at the major league level.
  18. After this offseason, Konerko and Jenks will be the only guys from the 2005 team on the team in 2008. Buehrle, Iguchi, and Dye will be either traded or sign somewhere else in FA. Garland and Contreras will be traded, and Pods, Uribe, and Crede will be non tendered.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) Incredibly one sided trade. Contreras' trade value is pretty much nil at this point let alone getting one of the best pitching prospects in baseball in exchange for his 50 year old broken down ass. I thought so, anyway. I was just using that to see if you all agree with me on the point that Jose's trade value is pretty much a bag of balls right now, and if you guys think that GMs would probably think the same. I hate that we are probably stuck with his contract for 2 more years. That was just a wild idea that looks good to a Sox fan, but probably wouldn't happen. Honestly, I don't think that you could get a bullpen arm similar to Ryan Bukvich for Contreras right now.
  20. Even though I think Jose's trade value is nada, do you think that a Contreras and Dye for Betemit, Billingsley and Kershaw trade is reasonable from both teams standpoints? Earlier we were talking about Betemit and Billingsley for Dye alone, we would essentially be trading Contreras for Kershaw straight up. Do you think the Dodgers would consider that, or do I need to lay off the bong?(figuratively speaking)
  21. I wouldn't mind trading MacDougal and Thornton once Day is healthy. Bring up Sisco to replace Thornton. If Kenny can get anything of decent value for them he should do it. With the season as lost as it is already, I have no problem having Sisco learn to throw strikes facing hitters at the major league level. The only way that I would object to that is if they are going to make him into a starter.
  22. So I'm guessing no way are we getting Billingsley in a trade for Dye now. Is there anyone else in the Dodgers organization who has the stuff like Billingsley besides Kershaw? Is there anyone else who would want Dye that has a pitcher with the stuff like Billingsley that they would be willing to trade for him? If the Sox trade Dye to Arizona I don't want Nippert in a trade because I don't know how a 26 year old pitcher in AAA is considered a prospect anyway. If they trade him to AZ then they better get some good middle infield help. Then they could trade Jose and/or Mark(if they decide they can't re-sign him) for pitching.
  23. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:51 PM) I bet you were happy when he was throwing 97 early last year and striking out 13 in back to back starts. He got injured and needs to get back to dropping and driving instead of sidearming everything. He gets ontop of that fastball and gets it back to 93-94 and he will dominate again. I don't recall Jose ever throwing 97 last year. the hardest I saw him throw was 95. He was mostly 93-94 last season. His forkball is at 72-75 this season when it was 78-81 last season. Slider was 84-87, last year, it is now 78-82. I've seen his fastball as low as 85 this year He's not getting his stuff back. I don't believe it is mechanical, he's just an old fart. He would have been on our team last year anyway, so what he did last year is irrelavent. The fact that he's going to be on our team for the next two years, with Jamie Moyer stuff, making over $10 million is what is bad. He'll be DFA before the end of next year. There's no way we'll find a taker for him unless he magically gets his fastball back to the 93-94 that you were talking about, and the rest of his stuff goes back to where it was last year too.
  24. I think that the only thing Jose would be worth in a trade is a bag of balls right now. His contract has become an albatross. I think that nobody would want him on their team for $10 million. I was not, after the 2005 season, happy about the contract he signed. This team would be better off if they let him walk after last year.
