I think that Milledge, Pelfrey, and Heilman+a projectable arm in A ball would be a good return for Buehrle from the Sox standpoint. However I think that if Kenny asked Minaya for that in a trade Minaya would laugh and hang up the phone. I don't think Mark is going to be traded because we'll never get even close to what he is worth back in a trade. I also think that the same would happen if we asked for Billingsley and Betemit in a trade from the Dodgers. The best we could get for Dye is probably Betemit straight up. With the free agent market the way it is, 2 top 100 prospects are worth more than Alex Rodriguez and Johan Santana for 3 months or even one season in most GMs eyes. Boston or the Yankees are the only teams that would consider such a trade today, mostly because they have the ammo in $$ to re-sign whomever they trade for.

Picture yourself on a boat on a river. Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river. Old Mississippi, she's calling my name Why don't you come along and mosey on down, I said down, come on down, down by the lazy river. She sits on the dock a fishin' in the water uh, huh. She's so very nice, you should break the ice, let her know that she's on your mind. Across the streams of hopes and dreams where things are really not. Have to believe we are magic, nothing can stand in our way. Look here, Brother - Who you jivin' wit dat Cozmik Debris? When that moon gets big and bright, it's a supernatural delight. All I have to say is that this guy better be really, really good at the major league level to justify taking him over Porcello. That may change in a month or two, if Porcello decides to go to UNC. If that is the case, then KW made the right choice. That being said, I like the idea of a power lefty in our minor league system. Though he's raw for a college player, He's only 20, compared to most college guys in the draft this year who are 21-23. I'm hoping that they can fine tune his delivery so that he has a consistent 94-97mph fastball. Can anyone post a full scouting report on his secondary pitches? I'd like to know if his slider is more of a sweeper(79-84mph) or power(85+mph) and whether or not there is a big discrepancy in his fastball-changeup speed a la Johan Santana. If your fastball is at 94 and your Changeup is at 77 then you'll get a lot more batters out in front of the change.

Hey Kalapse is that Billingsley and Ethier in your avatar?
-
Is Owens still hurt? I'd rather have him in left than Gonzalez.

If the Sox lose this series then I will dub them the worst team in the AL. There is no reason that an AL team should lose a series to the worst team in the worst division in baseball.

I noticed that when changing forums on the site there is a flashing timer that counts down the time until the Bears start the preseason that lasts for a couple seconds. I guess when people see that it pretty much says that we all think that the Sox really, really suck this year.

I'd agree that it would be nearly impossible to find and deport all illegal immigrants, but we do need to enforce the law. The best way to find the illegals is to search the employers records. The way to keep them from coming here is to not hire them. No jobs, no reason to come here. Large corporations such as Wal-Mart need to pay heavy fines straight out of their pocketbook if they are found to have hired illegals. Other employers too. About the point of "If the illegals are deported, then who will do their job?" I have an idea. If people are on welfare then they are unemployed, right? Why can't these people do the jobs that the illegal immigrants are doing? The people on welfare need to get up off their lazy ass and get a job. How about the money used for welfare is instead used for vocational training/education for the people who are on welfare now. Use those funds to help these people get their GED, and become productive members of the workforce.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) Good luck finding someone in the '08 draft who's going to contribute to the team's success over the next few years the way Weeks will. Ricky Weeks > a 16-30 and a 31-48? pick. If Weeks is the best package offered for Buehrle then that deal needs to be made. After further thinking about my statement, I retract it. I am now of the opinion that we need to trade Buehrle for the best offer if he doesn't want to stay here. Something that I didn't contemplate before is the possibility that Mark could be signed by a team picking in the top 15 of the draft, and the most that the Sox get is a 2nd round pick If that were to happen then we would lose him for absolutely nothing. Kenny should go to him within the next 2 weeks and make a final offer of 4/65, and if he doesn't accept, then adios, and thanks for the memories. I don't want to see that happen since Mark has been my favorite Sox player since I reignited my interest in baseball in 2003. However, what needs to be done to ensure the future of the franchise needs to be done. I don't think that the Sox can risk letting Mark go for picks, because there is no guarantee that we'll even get a first round pick out of it.

Buehrle for Weeks straight up is a total fleecing by the Brewskis, IMO, and KW should be canned right on the spot if he makes that trade. Any trade to Milwaukee involving Mark should bring back Gallardo. If it doesn't then you hang up the phone. If we trade Mark, then we ABSOLUTELY have to get AT LEAST 3 guys that are going to contribute to our Major League club next year. Kenny has to ask for the farm, and if he doesn't get it, then you take the picks if Mark walks. Tough luck if he walks, but that is the way it is. Weeks and Gallardo should be a starting point on a deal with the Brewskis.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) I kinda want to hope for losses, but as a Sox fan I just can't. I am in a pickle. Sometimes, when you know your team has no shot for the playoffs, you do hope for losses. I kinda am right now. You don't root against them, but you hope for entertaining losses. Being a Bear fan, there are a couple of times when the Bears f***ed up their chance of getting a pretty good QB or a perrenial pro bowler(hindsight is 20/20 though) by winning games they weren't supposed to. I normally wouldn't hope for losses unless the season is completely lost and the team I'm a fan of is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but this is a special case because of the people in charge of the organization. If the Sox go on any sort of winning streak, Kenny would probably become a buyer rather than a seller, which would spell disaster for the future of this club. Even if Kenny becomes a seller, I am very afraid that he'll f*** it up, and this team will be a cellar dweller for about 5-10 years. You'll probably think this is too pessimistic, but I'm not going to expect a winning record from the Sox until 2010 at the earliest, and the next division contending team around 2012. We're in for a rough 3-5 years while we rebuild, so hang in there and keep the faith.
-
This team is 76% horses***. the 5 guys in the rotation and Thome are the only players who aren't. I half expect 15+ strikeouts and a no hitter tomorrow. They need to trade Dye and Iguchi, and throw Buehrle in there if the Sox don't think they can sign him. Kenny not trading Crede this offseason has turned out to be a HUGE mistake. They need to get top talent for them. I just have a feeling that KW will butcher the trades and we will be set back a long time. [green] I'm looking forward to knowing what it is like to be a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1993-present and a Detroit Tiger fan from 1988-2005.[green]

Word has relayed thru WSI and from the score that Crede is having back surgery tomorrow. Me thinks we've seen the last of Joe in a Sox uniform.

White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/11/07 (L)

I was gone this weekend, How did Fields do? -
I'm probably dreaming here, but how about Dye and Crede for Billingsley, Kershaw, Loney and Betemit. Then trade Konerko to the Angels for Wood and Izturis/Aybar/Kendrick. I really think that the Angels would trade Wood and one of those guys for Konerko. The other one is the wacko one. If this were to happen the Sox would have an infield set for years. Loney-1B Izturis/Aybar/Kendrick-2B Wood-SS Fields-3B

I bet Mussina and his 85 mph fastball holds the Sox to under 5 hits tonight. It doesn't matter how bad a pitcher is if they pitch against the sox they get everyone out.
-
Detroit takes Crosby. That is 2 arms that should have been drafted by the Sox that Detroit got. This f***ing pisses me off.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) FYI, im throwing my hat in the ring as decently impressed with out picks. I actually like Poreda after watching alot of video. Where are you finding the video on Poreda? I'd like to see it.
-
I'm worried about Jose's fastball. When the season started it was 89-92, and now its 86-89 mostly 87. He's going to get shellacked pretty often with stuff like that.
-
If they were going to pick another pitcher I would have gone with the lefty from Kaneland HS in Maple Park. There was a special on CSN about him. He throws 94-97 with the fastball.
-
San Diego picks Schmidt!!! Yay!!!!
-
Alderson is of the board to SF.
-
Do you guys think that Porcello goes here to Texas?
-
My guess-Indians take Porcello; further complicate things for the Sox.

I can't blame Ozzie anymore....this is ALL on Kenny

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) The Twins were also very fortunate...1) not to have enough money to sign Prior if they wanted to, 2) that Mauer was a hometown boy, if anything, that was very "flukey" how that whole situation turned out. They would be lucky to be .500 without Mauer and a broken down Liriano and Prior. I disagree. If the Cubs had taken Mauer and the Twins had taken Prior, Then Mauer would be a non prospect in high A or AA ball, and baseball writers would have been arguing for the last 3 years whether to give the Cy Young award to Santana or Prior. The Cubs organization ruined Prior. If he had been a Twin, he would either have a Cy Young award or would have finished 2nd to Santana for the last 3 years. Not only would that have happened, the Sox would not have won the 2005 World Series, and Minny would have a couple under their belt along with division championships for 6 years and counting.
