Kyle Orton Appreciation Thread
TheHawkaroo replied to White Sox Josh's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 25, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) So either you didn't watch the game, or you are blind by love of Orton. Did you see how the team played when Grossman came in? They moved the ball.. they flowed together. They scored. In one drive, he did what Orton hadn't done all year. I was going to say the same thing. All you have to do is watch Rex throw a few passes and you will realize he is a better QB. I respect what Orton has done, but he wasn't picked until the 4th round for a reason. Give him a few years and maybe he'll turn out to be a dependable QB (Not a good one.) Rex has pocket presence and get's rid of the ball quickly, I think he has all it takes to be a good QB, the only question is if the injuries have been a fluke or if he truly is fragile. -
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) Insane. They can only start 3 of them (1B, 3B, DH). I could have seen the Twins trying to trade for Koskie to get him back but they just signed Tony Batista. Pretty crazy situation. All of them either play 3B, 1B, or both. My guess would be they play Glaus at DH, Overbay at 1st, and Koskie at 3rd. Hinske could come off the bench as he's not that good anyways, but that leaves Hillebrand who is a pretty good hitter and who had a good year in '05. Maybe they trade him for some relief pitching or prospects. The Blue Jays are going wild and just trying to get anybody they can. It should be interesting to see how it turns out, I think they will be regretting this in a few years.

Dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) --I don't understand how trading Garland will help us a bit. I love BMac's potential but he hasn't proven anything yet. He could turn into the early years Garland before he matures. We've already tinkered enough. Keep the rest of the team intact another season!!!! This is not a bad idea. However, if we don't trade Garland now then he goes into FA and we get nothing for him. So why not take a gamble on McCarthy (Who I think will have a good year given the chance) and try to get something for Garland while you can. I think Kenny will just sit back and wait with Jon, make it known that he might be available but you don't have to get rid of him. If there is an offer he can't refuse then make the trade, but worst case you can't move him, oh well he pitches another year for us or you move him at the deadline.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) If only Nomar could play shortstop again and play in Kansas City. They also got Elarton. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5173210 Well at least the royals will be semi-competative next year.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) i think splitting up is too harsh of a term. "having a better control over" would be much more accurate. Let's face it.. if this administration was really concerned about "possible threats" to the US, wouldn't we have been all over N. Korea years ago? On a sidenote, isn't communist countries holidng US Debt a threat to our national security? By splitting up I mean installing a democratic goverment, which means letting our businesess move in and take over the market.

Bush admitting he is wrong doesn't do anything for the situation. Fact of the matter is he probably knew it was wrong all along and just used it as a reasoning for war so he and his oil buddies could start splitting up the middle east.
-
Racist or not, he's still an idiot.

This shows you how bad of a situation the Yankees are in right now. A few years ago they would have signed Konerko to a huge contract to play 1B, but this year they have to go after an ex-red sox over the hill SS to play 1B. All those huge long term deals are finally coming back to bite them in the ass.

Cubs might have interest in Jacque Jones for RF
TheHawkaroo replied to SSH2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) Isn't he basically the same player as Jeromy Burnitz? All right, with a little bit more speed. Yeah but Jones is a great defender with more speed than burnitz. I also think he will put up better numbers in Wrigley, like fathom said. I think this would be a good pickup for the cubs, an OF of Murton-Pierre-Jones isn't all that bad when you consider their stacked IF. But still the cubs will go nowhere unless thier pitching holds up, so I wouldn't worry. -
From Rotoworld. "Rincon is the top lefty reliever remaining in free agency, and the Cardinals are offering him a two-year deal. The A's, Mets and White Sox might also be involved. The Twins seem more likely to land Hammond. Dec. 10 - 3:25 am et

QUOTE(valponick @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) for David Bush, Gabe Gross and a PTBNL. Can the Blue Jays contend? I think their pitching staff is still iffy. After Halladay (Who could be the best pitcher in the AL.) there is not much. If Burnett actually gets his s*** together and that Chacin guy can pitch like he did early last year then I give them a chance. I believe they have a lot of young pitchers in that organization so you never know what could happen.

QUOTE(Winning Ugly @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) He was offered arbitration by them last night and looks like they want him back. Makes sense, I don't know why they would get rid of him.

QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) All those guys are old.................. Wilson Alvarez= Retired What about Ricardo Rincon from the A's, did he sign somewhere yet?
-
Last year vs Left-handed Batter: 2.28 ERA in 61 games. 20K 8BB. I don't think the A's have resigned him yet. Strictly a left specialist as his ERA against righties is just bad.

QUOTE(hi8is @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) scratch that idea, looks like he just now inked with the spankes. That's what it says on the Yankees webesite.

How bout this guy instead of Timo Perez?
TheHawkaroo replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think he would be a nice pickup. Speed and patience, could bat 2nd every once in a while. I like Timo, but this guy seems like a good option. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 05:13 AM) Ummm If he gets a 7 year contract he wont be good at hitting at the end of it but currently thats dumb to say. I'm not saying he's a bad hitter, but what's so good about him? Sure he has batted over .300 the last two years, but in one of the best lineups in one of the better hitting parks. I just think he is very over rated. He used to be better when he stole bases. I'll admit he will put up better numbers than our CF next year, but with an enourmous contract.

QUOTE(LDF @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 02:42 AM) i am completely surprise in the activity that cle is making in offseason. how much ground has cle made up on the sox? i think it is going to be a tough yr next yr. Are you drinking? You sound like you're 8 years old. Cleveland has signed Paul Byrd, uh-oh watch out.

QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) They have now dumped catcher Paul Lo Duca to the Mets for prospects....I guess if u want anyone from Florida, just give up crap...Hey have Kenny try for Dontrelle for like idk...Borchard? I don't understand why you think it's BS, the Marlins can do whatever they want with their players. Besides the fire sale strategy has worked for them, look how they traded off that first WS team and then won again a few years later.

QUOTE(AirScott @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 02:04 AM) I've mentioned it a few times, though I always followed it up with "but it ain't gonna happen." Damon is an over-rated caveman who can't throw and really isn't all that good at hitting. Oh yeah and for some reason he is gonna get a fat contract. That's the last person I want on our team.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) You know you're right...now that I look at it...Beltran's best season he put up numbers only barely better than what Konerko put up last season, yet he's getting $5 million a year more than PK. (OPS around 910 for Beltran in 2003-2005, .909 last year for PK) Beltran is a solid CF with speed who puts up the same numbers as a power-hitting 1B, that's why he's making 5 million more. You can't just compare OPS when you're talking about a CF and a 1B.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:11 PM) The team that has more World Championships than any other in professional sports has "no clue". That's rich. When they won those championships they were doing like he said, developing talent with guys like Jeter, Rivera, and Posada. But lately they have just been buying players and they haven't won even with that payroll.

Sox inquire about Joey Gathright & Aubrey Huff
TheHawkaroo replied to SSH2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Forget Gathright. We already have Young, Anderson, Owens, and Sweeney so why trade for another teams OF prospect when we already have some of our own. Develop and give our prospects a chance. If we are going to make a trade it should be for a proven player like Juan Pierre. -
It looks nice (two of the best arms in th league make up your left IF), but Furcal is going to be way overpaid. Uribe is a great SS and doesn't need to be moved. It would be nice to find some room for a speedy player on this team, but Furcal is not the answer.
