QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) I don't think that would pass consititutional muster to be honest. It is one thing to declare a vital group unable to strike. Like i said earlier, I really don't think I want to see someone like police officers or firefighters walk off of the job. But it is quite another to say that Wal-Mart greeters couldn't go on strike. I guess my point is there is a reason the strike is illegal. Judge just fined the union 1 million dollars a day.

QUOTE(Balance @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Hey, I know we've debated a lot of the issues that Conyers raises until we're blue in our proverbial faces. But I don't think you can simply dismiss the accusations he makes by calling him a wacko. If you think he's lying, why not show some evidence that he's lying? I think there's enough evidence in the public record to, at the very least, support an investigation into the conduct of which he's accusing the Bush administration. And Cknolls, why is it that whenever there's a serious allegation leveled against a prominent Republican, the best many Republicans can do is to try and change the subject to Clinton? Your name says it all baby. Balance.

QUOTE(Balance @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Southside and Nuke- lots of name-calling, not a lot of substance. You want balance. Tell the s*** bag dem Sens.(Durbin Dorgan and Levin) to allow the Barret report to be published without redactions, save anything that is classified. That might put a bad light on the most popular man in the world and his wife. HillBill.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) Here we go the wacko liberal attempt to do what their "voting machine" couldnt. The hatred for Bush is so deep in the liberal wing of the democrats they want to impeach bush. Conyers has no credibility he is as left as you can get. The only wacko that has less is Dennis Kucinich, who is probably already jumping up and down like a muppet. Maybe they can get Ramsey Clark back from defending the enemy and we can have the entire anti-war nut group back. Conyers has been planning this for a while 2003 Conyers started to work up the impeachment crap

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) Representative John Conyers, Jr., Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, is unleashing a potential s*** storm. (Forewarning: It's a Raw Story link, for those of you who don't care for that outlet. They do get scoops sometimes though). While they are at it why don't they ask Bush what happened to Jimmy Hoffa?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) Just for the sake of discussion, what if a law was passed making all strikes illegal? A provision included in that law should state: Strike at your own risk. You may not have a job to come back to. By the way Bloomberg sounds like he actually is a Republican and has a pair. He just said that no negotiations should take place until the union stops their strike. The city should not reward illegal behavior with negotiations. right on BLOOMY.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) I've been thinking about that episode ever since this story broke. The Senate may filibuster this bill. BTW. Never going to happen.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) Sorry the "well, the other party did it too so it must be OK" argument is like a pregnant woman -- they both can't hold their water. There is a major difference between a private company and the US where the government cannot fly in the face of the 4th Amendment. They could have easily got the wiretaps LEGALLY (well, even with the questionable legality of the Patriot Act which FISA had said may not meet 4th Amendment must but "almost certainly comes close") I just smash Bush for his anti-4th amendment crap because he's said he wants to limit the scope of government while taking every goddamn opportunity to give he and his cronies more power. But I'm sure COINTELPRO type activities are perfectly fine in America. Halliburton got the contract I hear

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Go Union! I say fire every last one of them. Reagan did it and we are able to fly today.

QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) i'd like to get past all of this partison B.S. and just like to know if people think their government leaders should be held accountable if they break the law? Because I do. Not if they save my life, or the lives of any other American. I have nothing to hide. Surveil away baby.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) If Clinton would have done this, Congress would have tried to impeach him for it! Ever heard of echelon?????????????????

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) Along with Several Republican Senators, the Democrats in the Senate were able to unite together strongly enough to completlely stop the proposed renewal of the Patriot Act's expiring provisions with a filibuster. The Cloture vote went 52-47, although Bill Frist voted against Cloture as a procedural move (it allows him to call the bill up for a vote again), so you should read it as the Republicans needing 7 more votes. It is also worth noting that there is a bipartisan Senate Agreement on renewing The Patriot Act which has already passed the Senate (unanimously I might add). However, the House was able to authorize the full version of the Act thanks to the larger Republican Majority there, so the bipartisan compromise bill is just sitting around hoping the Republicans will consider it. President Bush and the Republicans could have the Patriot Act renewed today, if they were even willing to consider bipartisanship or compromise at all. Nothing to hide= nothing to worry about.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Oh yes, the highly regarded Free market Project, which is of course neutral, telling me hard hitting economic facts! Laissez-faire, laissez-faire, laissez-faire! Excuse me while I go read The Weekly Standard, NewsMax, and the Wall Street Journal so I can finish my pro business circlejerk. So you are saying the tax cuts did not increase revenues?????? We should not be allowed to keep more of our money. No let the government keep it and spend it on farm subsidies and entitlement programs. They work so well.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) They got nothing on the dead people voting in Chicago. Very true.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) Florida 2000 - thrown? Probably, but then again so was Illinois and Texas 1960. That stuff happens. Ohio 2004? There was some funny business there, but I don't think Kerry won. How about wisconsin 2004?

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Punch cards or optical-scanned cards that can be physically preserved/protected and can be manually verified are quite a bit less hackable. How about dead people who vote in East St. Louis????
