  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) I'm hearing Boston. So Big Poopie is moving back to 1B then?
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) I hope he at least is going to a team with a shot at winning it all. I'd imagine he is, why else would he agree to the trade? Pretty much. Kenny would at least have done Thome a favor by trading him to a contender. JT's window of opportunity to win a championship is closing very quickly.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) Merkin is the bringer of good news "According to MLB.com's Scott Merkin, an MRI on Jake Peavy's sore right elbow Monday revealed no structural damage. Peavy is still unable to throw without discomfort " Sounds like a bone bruise.
  4. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 08:18 PM) Peavy is fine per Cowley. fathom you can come off heart attack alert now. Whew! I wonder why they felt compelled to schedule a press conference.
  5. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) Williams didn't accompany the Sox to Minneapolis. He's probably at home drowning himself in scotch right now. Can't say I'd blame him.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) I still think bringing Thome back on a one or two year deal makes the most sense. Fixed
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) Paulie will be dealt, assuming my memory is serving me correct and he only has 2010 left on his contract. He's not exactly what he once was, but he still has some sort of value I would think, even if minimal. He also has 10-and-5 rights, and I believe that Thome has a limited NTC clause that severely restricts where he can be traded. I don't see either of these guys getting dealt within the next 24 hours.
  8. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) I hope to God Peavy saved money on his car insurance by switching to Geico. Post of the Year
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:09 PM) This little tidbit from Gonzalez makes a Dye trade even more unlikely IMO Dye's contract also states that a team that acquires him must pick up his $12 million option. Yeah, he's staying put.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) Yes. But the odds of someone claiming Linebrink are very slim. Of course I thought no one would claim Wagner. Well, Wagner isn't due $10 million over the next two years. I agree that the Sox should hang onto Linebrink. He's healthy and if his offspeed stuff can find the plate again next year, he'd be worth either holding onto or dealing for value. I seriously doubt that Kenny deals Paulie or Thome tonight. But I don't like talk of a firesale and a press conference after Peavy's X-rays happening on the same day.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) They are going to announce the results of Peavy's x rays after the game. It would seem to me if there was nothing wrong, it would be announced right away. I hope I'm wrong. Peavy will comment after the results are released. I agree. Uggh, that doesn't sound good. Thanks for the update.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) No, it's still a genius move. He bought low on an ace who is signed for 3 more season after this one. Btw, you should go check the numbers on some of those guys we've traded. Richard is a back-of-the-rotation pitcher and Poreda projected to be a LOOGY or set-up guy at best. The only real downside to this deal is the money owed to Peavy over the next few years. And while it's substantial, it's nowhere near Barry Zito or Mike Hampton money.
  13. Any news yet on Peavy's MRI/X-ray? Weren't these tests scheduled for today?
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) I'm not understanding at all why they would want to commit that kind of money to Dye for next year... Me neither, especially when a productive Dye would be worth half of that on the FA market. Typical SI cluelessness.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) For me, being a White sox fan is a lifetime commitment. That’s through both the good and the bad. Me too. But that doesn't mean I have to spend my precious time watching or listening to them play like s***. The morning box score will suffice for the remainder of this season.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) I can't say for sure of course, but don't you agree the move now looks stupid at best? The guy hasn't pitched for us, we gave up some young pitchers who might have fared better in relief roles than the scum we've put out there. The gamble was we'd be in the pennant race and he'd be the September boost we need. No, that was just part of the "gamble." The rest of it was that Peavy would anchor this staff for the next 3-4 seasons. Same goes for Rios. Having them on the roster was supposed to give the Sox a boost down the stretch, but the long-term implications were even more important.
  17. I blame it on Bush/Cheney.
  18. This is my *probable* lineup for 2010, not my dream lineup. This assumes that most of our disposable income goes towards the bullpen... 1. Pods, LF 2. Rios, CF 3. Beckham, 3B 4. Quentin, RF 5. Thome, DH (AJ and Flowers will spell him) 6. PK, 1B 7. AJ/Flowers (platoon), C 8. Alexei, SS 9. Getz/Nix (platoon), 2B Rotation 1. Peavy (knock on wood) 2. Buehrle 3. Floyd 4. Danks 5. Garcia/Hudson
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) Sounds like they're not that important in the grand scheme of things. Why are you so against getting rid of one that's had a very long tenure comparatively speaking? Because if his teaching skills (or lack thereof) aren't the problem, what's the point in getting rid of him? Replacing an offensive coordinator on a football team will drastically change an offense's performance (one way or the other). Replacing Walker will alter the Sox's offense about as much as replacing Jeff Cox. Instead of scapegoating Walker, I'd be looking to address the real problem: the players.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) Apparently no one will ever want to be the Offensive Coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. They just relieved the current OC of his duties, apparently to send a message. Offensive coordinators are responsible for writing a team's playbook and getting the players to execute those plays. Hitting coaches are mostly responsible for correcting mechanical flaws in players who already know how to hit. That's why some offensive coordinators are revered and paid big bucks (Mike Martz, Tom Moore) or get promoted to head coach and make big bucks (Mike Holmgren, Andy Reid, Jon Gruden, Mike Shanahan), and why most hitting coaches are paid considerably less and eventually fade in to obscurity (Charlie Manuel is a notable exception).
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 08:01 AM) f***ing right, dude. It's too bad that Perry had so many injury issues. Dude was pretty talented.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 09:04 AM) Based on the results this year, clearly last year's team overachieved. Yep, certainly Alexei and possibly Quentin. Dotel and Linebrink were also over-achievers before falling apart and being injured, respectively, 2/3 of the way through the season. In addition, the dinosaurs in the middle of the lineup are a year older and are showing it.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) He didn't fit in Chicago? Bulls***, the guy ruled the Chicago media for the 1st half of the year. Remember the nicknames? The CSN appearances? The Charity events? David Wells also had his own radio show on AM 1000 back in 2001. And then he used it as a platform to attack Frank and, IIRC, pissed off the show's producers afterwards. Being high-profile doesn't mean that you're a good teammate or even a respectable human being. And when things turned bad for Swish, he pouted and acted like a complete douchebag. Just like David Wells.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) You can't blame Konerko, Thome, and Dye for being old You also can't rip up their contracts when their skills begin to decline. When you sign veteran talent in their 30's, that's a risk that you have to take.
  25. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 07:51 AM) I hope he gives it every shot he has left before retiring and can walk away knowing he gave it his best. If he keeps on pushing it, he might end up walking away in a wheelchair. His back hasn't responded to surgery and he hasn't played anything close to full season since 2006. I wish that he'd be able to keep on playing but wouldn't think less of him for hanging up his spikes at this point. Whatever happens, Joe will always have a ring and will be revered by Sox fans.
