QUOTE (GordoTheGreat @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) I like our chances to score +2 runs right here. Wouldn't surprise me. TCQ's starting to get hot. -

Don Whatawhata??? I honestly had no idea who their manager was prior to this evening. -

QUOTE (GordoTheGreat @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) It might be wise to start drinking, before it gets too bad. I starting sipping Wild Turkey during the pre-game show. -

Russell Branyan might be the most one-dimensional player I've ever seen. -

The more that I watch this team, the more I feel that they just don't have the fire anymore. Hopefully bringing in guys like Peavy and Rios, and dumping a number of these veterans, will change that. -

Why couldn't have Griffey hit like this last year? -

It sounds like the Mariners crew is supposed to be interviewing Kenny in a few minutes. -

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) Nice ... not often you see Ichiro bottled up like that. Very questionable call, but we'll take it. -

QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) No, but Dye went out and publicly said the deal is 'shocking' and he hopes it doesn't mean end of his White Sox career. The Sox are in a pennant race in mid-August and Dye is telling the press that he's worried about "the end of his White Sox career?" What a f'n baby. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) Who isn't speculating about whether or not Dye is pissed? I must've missed something from earlier today. Please don't tell me that Kenny or Ozzie has penciled Rios into RF. -

Mike Blowers is speculating on whether or not Dye is pissed because Rios played RF in Toronto. God, these guys are awful... -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) Whatever KW says, I think the truth is they had some money to play with. They weren't at their budget at the beginning of the season They probably were close to their budget at the beginning of the season, but Peavy and Rios aren't costing them that much THIS year. Their contracts are going to be offset by all of the veterans coming off the books over the next year and a half.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) So, let's imagine this...let's say you're right and he's slightly overpaid. That means either he's making $1-2 million more than he should be per year, or he's signed for what, 1 year longer than would be fair? Given our holes in CF and the fact that we get him for this season for only $2 million, doesn't it seem worth paying a slightly premium price if this guy brings production? Or look at it another way: We've been paying Jose $25 million to not pitch well over the past 2.5 years, and that hasn't exactly crippled us financially.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) You know this how? I'm not the only one speculating about Ibanez. His OPS+ has increased steadily since age 34 (115) to a whopping 150 at age 37. Most players don't put up 10-35 points above their career average at that age without pharmaceutical enhancement.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) He's not the hitter Ibanez is. He's also not the 'roider that Ibanez allegedly is.
-
QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) I am laughing at myself right now, because my main conflict with this move is that Podsednik's been playing too well to have playing time taken from him. I cannot believe I just typed this. I've been wondering the same thing. But CQ has been hitting a lot better since the Yankees series. My guess is that Pods becomes the 4th OF.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) I still hope we resign Pods (maybe $4 million for a year) LF He'd be lucky to get half that.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) Hopefully Rios won't block it... I don't think he will but one never knows. If the Jays are having a press conference, they've already gotten the OK from him. This is insane... -
Wow. I have mixed feelings about this one, but it'll be nice to have a halfway decent CF for the foreseeable future.

QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) I wouldn't mind seeing AJ back on the south side next year; his contract is very manageable and he only has one year left The combination of A.J.'s $6.25M salary and his legendary personality might make him a tough sell. He also has a limited NTC. I'd rather just keep him around for another year (he still hits well and calls good games) and take the draft picks when he leaves as a FA.
