QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) And yes, I will always miss the Harry and Piersall tandem. You never knew what you might hear from those two. MLB Network re-aired Fisk's first game in Boston as a Chi-Sock (1981) about a month ago. Listening to Harry and Jimmy rip the umps was priceless. In his prime, Harry was an absolutely amazing talent.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 07:41 AM) f***ing A. Getz hitting leadoff with AJ in the 2 hole and Wise hitting 8th today. Wow, that didn't take long. The only question now is why Anderson isn't in the lineup. AJ in the two-hole worked surprisingly well last year. I'd rather have Alexei there, but I can't say that I'm upset about it.

Should the Sox Retaliate for the CQ Beaning?
WCSox replied to BaseballNick's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 07:21 AM) Ozzie doesn't throw the ball, Its up to the teammates to protect each other. Judging by his reaction afterwards, I'm pretty sure that Ozzie explicitly instructed Sean Tracey to hit a batter a few years ago. I can see the argument that a 2-0 game in early April may not be the best time for retaliation. But if it happens again in this series, something will have to be done. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 07:05 AM) 2. No way it was intentional, though I am sure he was trying to throw inside, to get him off the plate. Not sure about that. Quentin has a habit of hanging over the plate, and Grinke almost plucked him in the head before actually hitting him in his next AB. Given that Greinke wasn't exactly struggling with his command last night, it appeared to me that he was definitely trying to send a message. Whether or not that message involved plucking him (rather than brushing him back) is unclear. I'm disappointed that Ozzie didn't retaliate with at least a brushback. He needs to protect his players. -
I still long for the days of Caray and Piersall, but the addition of Stone ain't bad. Definitely one of the best color guys in the game. I still can't believe that the Cubs forced him out.

Oh well. At least our pitching is there. Let's break out the lumber tomorrow...

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) So has Ozzie lost some of his balls this offseason? No retaliation for the CQ pitches.. that surprises me. Me too.
-
Well, if our pitching is this good all season, we still might have a chance.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) Because the Royals still have their "Royals" stigma, fans think it should be a slugfest. A Greinke-Cruz-Soria pitching line is damn strong. I expected an L in this one, even with the Sox knocking around Greinke last season. The sad thing is that Floyd gave the offense a chance to win the game. And they're running out of time.

QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 07:03 PM) Paulie flies out. One down. F'n horrible at-bat.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) So if you have a bad GM, then you should cheer him on? If you have a bad owner, you should accept it? I understand that it doesnt help the player when he gets booed during a game, but you know what, he shouldnt be in that position in the first place, so what is really the only way for fans to show their frustration with the crap that is out there How about speaking with their wallets and not going to the games? That sends a much stronger message than getting drunk and acting like an ass.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) yeah i really feel bad for guys who make at minimum above 300k get treated like f***ing kings, and play baseball for a living....this is baseball and wise is a baseball player...not your daughter who comes home crying because she didnt make the cheer squad....i spent 800 bucks for 2 tickets in an ozzie plan, and if i want to boo when i see a horrible baseball player not perform and in a position he shouldn't be...i'll boo Then go ahead and boo. Nobody's trying to stop you. But understand that your Constitutional right to boo doesn't render you above reproach.
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) so who are you supposed to boo??? good baseball players?? booing is a message to the manager and GM as much as it is to the player. toby halls fatass sucked too, i didnt feel bad for him either How about saving the boos for big-money prima donnas who don't get it done in the clutch? Or PED users? Or jerks like Albert Belle and Barry Bonds?
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) why?? hes had 7 horrendous at bats Because putting him in the starting lineup of a ML team is setting him up for failure? Nice catch there, BTW. TWO nice plays. At least he's doing something right.
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) greinkes at 93 pitches....probably will go 1 more...but its opening day, who knows And on the flip side, Floyd is quietly pitching a pretty solid game. *knock on wood*
-
F'n shift!
-
Got his pitch and swung right through it
-
QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) he needs to get a hit first.. Maybe he'll lead the league in OBP via walks and HBPs?
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) get some revenge here carlos Or charge the mound if you get plunked again.
-
Sounds like the fans are actually getting tired of booing Wise.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) Quentin's minor league stats tell the tale though, he was a monster down there. I think it holds up, maybe some decrease but not tons. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Maybe 27 HRs and 90 RBI instead.
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) i actually feel pretty good about PK this year....i dont feel good about Alexei..not sure why, just dont think he'll repeat what he did last year Agreed that Alexei and especially Quentin will take a step back offensively this year. Paulie's OPS has been steadily falling since '06. Much of that can be attributed to injuries, but it's not like players get less injury-prone with age. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see him being anything more than a #7 hitter next year.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:28 PM) Hideous at-bat Paulie. I have a bad feeling about him this year. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:29 PM) Yeah he usually gets good reads, it's just that he can't run to where he reads anymore. Well said.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) Was it just me or did it seem like Jermaine didn't move at all on that single? I noticed that, too. I don't know if he had any chance at it, but it looked like he got a really bad read.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) An umpire can toss a pitcher without prior warning. Yeah, and I remember Hawk going apes*** when that happened to one of our guys last year. I'd be disappointed if there was no retaliation tonight.
