  1. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) With the Blue Jays trading for Brett Wallace, Lyle Overbay could be the target. Overbay is really not a power bat though.
  2. Really like this trade. Fills the need for a leadoff hitter. Didn't have to give up too much, especially since the Dodgers are picking up half the tab. Pierre is on of the premier bunters in baseball too, which is something the Sox have been lacking.
  3. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 07:40 AM) The FA market for 1B is super thin, so maybe the Angels would be desperate. I don't see anyone taking Konerko's contract though. But that's exactly the point. Konerko's contract is nothing compared to the contract Tex will get.
  4. With the Brewers offering nearly what the Yankees did to Sabathia, couldn't the Brewers pull off a trade for Peavy? They most certainly have the prospects to do it. I don't know about no trade clauses in Peavy's contracy, but it seems like the two teams would match up well.
  5. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 10:37 AM) And considering all the goings on in Illinois...I'm not surprised. I'm sure it affects the Sox in some ways. Yeah, KW was "candidate 3" for the vacant senate seat.
  6. He also bats from the left, which is a need.
  7. From espn http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?i...ce=MLBHeadlines Does this make us players?
  8. Jeremy Jeffress, Brewers: It was a down year for righties in the AFL and while relievers like Bud Norris and Andrew Carignan excelled, we're going with the guy who wowed folks stuff-wise. Trouble is, he only pitched three times before being shut down, and one of them came when he was clearly not at his best. That being said, he showed the plus pure stuff that made him a first-round pick in 2006. He hit triple digits with his fastball and showed a good breaking ball as well. His changeup still needs work, but it looked like he was headed in the right direction.
  9. Jeremy Jeffress supposedly looked good in the AFL.
  10. I never said only Gwynn, but I would definitly take him as part of the deal.
  11. I'd take Gwynn Jr. in a heartbeat, they have not been able to use him enough because of their crowded outfield.
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) Im watching the game where Bartlett hit a weak grounder to third for a single. Im watching the game where the Rays went to sacrifice on the next pitch but instead Maddon out manages Ozzie and has Iwamura swinging. Im watching the game where the Sox continue to pitch to Longoria with 2 outs. Could Javy done better? Sure. But the facts are in this case he is not being put in a position to succeed. Outside of what 3 hits no one on the Rays has even come close to hitting the ball hard? No matter how you want to spin it, Vasquez is just not good enough. He doesn't have the mental makeup to handle this kind of stage. In the last week when the games meant the most he has been horrible.
  13. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) Jose would have given up 8ER by now. KW needs to go after good young pitching come the off-season. I would disagree with that. Contreras has come up big in meaningful games wher Vasquez always folds under the pressure.
  14. Can we please stop the Wise is not good enough talk now? He's one of the good stories of this year.
  15. Please god, take Vasquez away. Stay in Tampa and retire! I'd rather pay him to not pitch if that's even what you want to call what he does.
  16. As a Packer fan, this is a sad day, but one that was coming eventually. Being 30 years old, it's hard to remember a time without Brett. I really don't care what anyone has to say, but Brett is definitely one of the top 5, if not the best quaterback to ever play the game. He will be missed dearly, but all good things must pass. To all of you Bear fans out there, just think about the 21 different QB's that have started for your team during the 17 years and 253 consecutive games that Brett played. That number is staggering. Also, Brady=overrated.
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:27 PM) Yes, he would. He's a .750 OPS SS/2B/3B/CF who put up a .900 OPS in 2006 who is also signed through 2010; Orlando Cabrera, who is better but only signed through this year, cost Jon Garland. Why in the hell would Bill Hall cost less than that? Bill Hall is out of the question unless KW really wants to include one of his top pitching prospects in a desperation move (which is exactly what it would be); that would be stupid as hell. You bring up 2006, why not 2007?
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) Ya Gwynn was a guy I suggested in another thread. IIRC, there was a rumor a while back that the Brewers actually wanted him to start somewhere next season. He's young and good fairly good speed, so he could certainly be an option. If the Brewers would consider trading us Gwynn, I would certainly be interested in hearing what they would want.
  19. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) Hall costs Crede plus Gio or DLS Hall wouldn't cost that. He didn't have that great of a year last year, and he is not a superstar. I'm all for Tony Gwynn Jr. I think he is ready to break out if he gets regular at bats. the Brewers have too crowded an outfield.
  20. From ESPN.com 8:12 p.m., from Steve Phillips • The Mets offered Aaron Heilman, Carlos Gomez and Philip Humber for Erik Bedard.
  21. I'm in! 1) What format you prefer playing: Head to Head 2) Your relative level of experience : 5 years 3) Your league preference (if you have played before): No preference 4) Whether or not you are willing to be a league commisioner : Would rather not
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) The # of autographs was questioned several times. With the cut down in people I specifically asked why not leave the # of auto's given out the same. Didn't get a real good answer on that, but was told that it's something they will consider increasing next year. One thing though, hotel guests didn't get special treatment. It just depended on how many folks were in line before you, and I can tell you that when we got back to the hotel at 2am there was a line with at least 100 folks in it. Definitely consider staying there next year if autographs are important to you. To be honest, I really didn't care about the autograph, just the chance to meet some of the players face to face. I still got to meet Ozzie and Robin, so it wasn't a complete loss. I guess maybe the hotel or whatever security they had there could have made sure that people weren't lining up at 2 in the morning, that's a bit ridiculous. Like I said, I still had a great time, there are just some things that could have been handled a little better, but for the first time at a new location, it was done very well.
  23. I thought Soxfest was really great, it was my first time, so I really don't have anything to compare it to. The only thing I found a little disappointing is the autograph situation. My brother and I got to Palmer House at 9:10 Saturday, 50 minutes before the scheduled start time of Soxfest. We really wanted to get the chance to meet Konerko and get his autograph, but I guess we got there 30 minutes too late as they had already given out all of the wristbands. I just wish I would have known that for autograph purposes, Soxfest started well before the scheduled time of 10AM. We were a little bummed out to start the day, but ended up having a great time nonetheless. Next year we will stay in the hotel though because it seems as though the people in the hotel were the ones able to get in line for autographs at 8:30 in the morning.
  24. Is the White Sox garage sale still in the parking lot at US Cellular this weekend, anyone know?
