The last couple of days I have been paying more attention to the Yankees and Twins scores than the Tigers scores.
-
I don't want Soriano, we need pitching. If we could spin vazquez or garcia for Gordon or for sanchez/heilman that would be great. It would be even better if we could also get a guy like Phillip Humber from NY.
-
One other bad move today was the hit and run in the 9th when we were down by two.
-
If I was a college junior and everybody called me a hall of famer before I was even drafted I would hold out for a bunch of money too.

I was just wondering from anybody who has played high school ball in Iowa why the season starts so late. Most people probably dont know this, but their season starts in May and ends the championships are in late July (this weekend). So if a guy gets drafted, he can choose to skip the rest of his senior season to start his pro career(did Ryan Sweeney do this?). It also gives scouts less of a chance to look at these guys. I heard about this last year and was really shocked that they do this.

Personally, I think Josh Beckett is the most overrated pitcher in baseball (the Wood hype is gone). I'm sick of everybody saying he's an ace when he has an ERA north of five and has NEVER thrown 200 innings in his career. Ever since the 2003 postseason everybody has expected Cy Youngs from him, but all that they have gotten is blisters. I just can't believe all the hype this guy still gets.

We actually get a good start out of Freddy and we can only score one run off john fishin koronka. By the way, how was Freddy's velocity today? I only saw the end of the game.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 12:29 AM) Along with Vinnie Chulk for Jeremy Accardo; Giants did very well here IMHO. They're going for is this season it looks like, seeing how it may be Bonds last season with the Giants, and possibly Schmidt's as well. Agree. Giants made out like robbers, I thought they would get a pretty good prospect in return.

I had no problem with it, it was a huge strikeout in a huge game. Zambrano goes too far though, he pulls that stuff in the second inning.

Your Favorite Pitcher (of your lifetime)

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 06:21 PM) Mariano; not so much. Hoffman on the other hand hells yeah, you gott appreciate a guy who can close out games for a decade with nothing more than a mid to upper 90's fastball and a changeup. Others have tried but not many have succeeded, hoffman will always be a fav of mine. As will Jeff Zimmerman, it's so sad that his career had to end the way it did, the guy was lights out in '01 and was never to be seen from again. What happened to Zimmerman, just injuries? I'll have to say Tom Glavine, followed by Pedro. Other guys are buehrle and Santana. -
Jason Stark on Javier Vazquez/Freddy Garcia

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) Looks like KW wants that young pitching prospect to be included as well. I ask for Humber. Pelfrey is way too unrealistic. Humber's a bit of a boom or bust with his injury problems. But if Minaya has problems making a deal elsewhere, maybe he'll come back to us. There should be other possibilites as the deadline approaches though. Just a note to everybody-Pelfrey can't be traded until a year after he signed, which was in the winter so forget about aquiring him. I think the innings have caught up to Freddy, and I would trade him or Vazquez for Gordon in a second. Also, did anybody hear about the Abreu for Milledge rumor? -
I was at the game too. Ozzie needs to learn a lesson from buck in that you dont have to let your pitcher throw over 100 pitches before you get his ass out of there. I like an agressive base coach, but that was probably the worst move Cora's made since he's been here. It was a spiffty throw and he was still out by a mile. By the way, I dont know if the people watching on TV could here it but Buehrle got booed bigtime after that big inning.

The Indians have three rookie level teams

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) The Mets have 3 too. Yea, I guess you're right. Its still funny how Shapiro wanted every team to have to get rid of a rookie team and then he adds one. -
This year the Indians added a rookie team in the gulf coast league, which means they have three rookie/short season teams here in the states (mahoning valley and Burlington are the other two). Every other team in baseball has two. How are they allowed to have more than two? The funny thing is Shapiro is the same guy who proposed that teams only be allowed one rookie team.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) "1- 2 the count, here is Javier with the pitch, its a breaking ball right over the plate for a homer!" Sound familiar? Yep Mr. Vazquez gets ahead of the counts and throws his meatball breaking ball over the plate ALL THE FREAKING TIME! Hasn't he freaking learned by now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enough is enough, my patience has worn dry, GET RID OF HIM! Vazquez leads the league in 0-2 pitches that are crushed. -
Hawk-Does he actually listen to what spews out of his mouth???
WhiteSoxfan1986 replied to gosox41's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The people who complain about hawk need to get MLB extra innings for a little bit. Yes he's a homer, but he knows baseball and he shows enthusiasm. I got MLB extra innings free for about a week, and some of the guys were downright awful. Baltimore's guys were the worst, they acted the same every play no matter who made it or what happened. I know people will kill me for this, but one of my favorite baseball announcers is John Sterling. I hate the f***ing Yankees, but the guy shows enthusiasm. -

QUOTE(soxunited @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) guys i missed the earlier discussion, but was there a good reason as to why Mack was in CF instead of Anderson? I didnt agree with the move before the game started, BA needs to be out there every game this series. -
