  1. per Rotoworld Vin Mazzaro will start for the Athletics Tuesday, according to manager Bob Geren. Mazzaro is 2-2 in the minors this season with a 2.38 ERA, 44 strikeouts and 1.04 WHIP through 56 2/3 innings. With no one from the rotation available to start Tuesday due to last Friday's doubleheader, the A's needed to recall someone, and being 10 games out of first, it seemed logical to give another youngster a shot.
  2. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:58 PM) No. Although, is tomorrow's starter listed? No, looks like it will be Vin Mazzaro though. He was held out of his last start in Sacramento.
  3. What's the background on Reggie Rose? What has he done to get the reputation he has?
  4. Regardless of the outcome, it's good to see Gavin pitch like he did. Were going to need him if we wanna contend.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) Is Abreu a FA after this season? I'd be shocked if he's not on the Sox. Think he signed a one-year deal
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) Will someone start a thread about that saying they were wrong for saying people were wrong about Pods being wrong for the Sox?
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) Jeez Pods, take a pitch! Terrible game for him. Only a matter of time until he's down to about .260
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2009 -> 09:02 PM) I couldnt let this get lost in this thread. I saw that yesterday, pretty funny.
  9. Bonnie Bernstein and Sarah Kustok should be on the list.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 27, 2009 -> 12:11 AM) Jones, Markakis and now Wieters. That's not a bad 3-some to build around. Tillman will be up later this year, and Matusz and Arietta should folllow in 2010. They could end up being pretty dangerous, especially if they keep getting what they are out of Rich Hill.
  11. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:03 PM) Now that he plays 3B, do you think his value just plummeted and he doesn't have as much value anymore? Give me a break. It's sure not as high as if he were at short
  12. Fields has been a huge dissapointment so far, but if this team isn't going anywhere and you might as well give him a chance. Wilson Betemit and Jason Nix aren't long term answers, Viciedo isn't ready, and I don't want to see Beckham at third.
  13. I've mentioned this before, I would hate to see Beckham move to third. He should be playing short, second at the very least. I would love to see him at short and Alexei in center but I don't think that will happen.
  14. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 24, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) Boy that's frustrating. Really getting tired of some Sox fans pump up everything AJ does. He isn't that good defensively, isn't that good handling pitchers, isn't that good on the basepaths, and isn't that smart of a hitter. What is he doing batting 5th? Well, tough few games coming up. Still trying to decide if I want to go to the games next weekend. Should this ship keep heading south I would love to see AJ gone by the deadline. He's been the most overrated player on this team for awhile.
  15. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 23, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) Good enough for me then... Just have to solve the 3b problem now... I would still give Fields some more time. Either way, I would hate to see Gordon move to a corner IF spot.
  16. I would still like to see Alexei in center and Beckham at short.
  17. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 22, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) Seems to me that Retherford has earned a shot at 3B more so than Beckham at this point. I still think we should give Fields some more time.
  18. I would have liked to see Peavy end up with the Sox, but I'm not going to lose sleep over this. I just don't see the Sox contending this year anyways, and that's a ton of money to tie up in one guy, who won't be the same away from the NL and Petco. It's nice to keep Richard, Poreda, Hudson and Carter (assuming one or both of them were involved).
  19. I'm not sure how I feel about this trade. Peavy's #'s are inflated from the NL and Petco, and I'm not sure the Sox have enough to win the division this year even with him. That being said, I'm not a huge Poreda fan (I think there's a good chance he'll be end up in the bullpen), and it looks like he's the main piece in the trade. As long as were not giving up Beckham or Flowers, I don't really have a problem with this. Hey, plus if we get him at least it means he won't be going to the Cubs.
  20. Well, it's been the hot topic on Soxtalk these last few weeks. With BA coming back today, how much playing time will he get?
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 19, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) Tito f***ing Landrum. To this day that remains one of the most depressing moments for me as a Sox fan. That team would have won the world series. I have no doubts. They probably would have. Hoyt going in game 5, and they were a better team than the Phillies.
  22. Iowa State dropped their baseball program earlier this decade.
