  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 06:05 PM) Yep, that sucks, as he was coming into his own finally. Counsell will get the start now at 2B, but makes a terrible bench that much thinner. I wish they would give Gamel a shot at third and platoon Counsell and Weeks at second.
  2. Bad news for us, Rickie Weeks is out for the year.
  3. I would love for the Sox to trade Jenks (assuming things stay like they are). Closers are always overvalued, and I don't think the Sox miss too much of a beat with Thornton in that spot. They could get a haul for him too. One team that could be interested is Philadelphia, who have intriguing arms in Carrasco and Drabek. Obviously Dye, Thome, and Konerko are trade canidates, and I wouldn't mind seeing AJ gone either should the Sox be able to get a decent package.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ May 17, 2009 -> 04:35 PM) How does Johnny Damon have 10 HRs this year? He is hitting a lot of bombs as well. 1. Contract year 2. Short right field porch
  5. Walker needs to go. I'm f***in sick of this, the Sox go through these stretches every year. Maybe it's not his fault, but there has to be a change.
  6. Of course the offense decides to wake up when were down by 8 runs.
  7. I give more credit for the Rangers hitting to that joke of a ballpark than Jaramillo.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:54 PM) The Cards are playing about as bad as the Cubs were just a couple weeks ago. And? There's 130 games or so left in the season. I'm not crowning the Cubs just because they're on a hot streak and the Cardinals are on a cold one. And what I want to know is why nobody is talking about the Reds? They've got arguably better starting pitching and unquestionably a better bullpen. They're just starting to hit as well. Brandon Phillips is on fire.
  9. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) He's not going to get 50mil, not even close, that's just Boras doing his thing. He'll probably end up getting between 15-25 million which is still a s*** ton of money but it's doable. If we were in position to draft him then you have to do it. How do you explain to your fans why you passed on the best talent in the last decade b/c you were too cheap to pay him (pay him with our money as fans none the less) Everything that I've read in BA says there's no way he gets 50 million. He'll break the record for a signing bonus (I think Prior set it), but he won't get that much. I do think the Sox would take him though.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ May 10, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) And to think we put the fate of Tuesday's game vs KC in Broadway's less than capable hands. It still sickens me that he was the 15th overall pick. He was supposed to have this great curveball, which I still haven't seen.
  11. Bobby has looked great his last couple outings. Should we fall out of the race, we'd be able to get a haul for him.
  12. It's a shame the Sox weren't able to get Edwin Jackson (a lot of people on the board wanted him, including me), he's dominating again.
  13. If we end up losing this game Guillen deserves his share of the blame. Yes, he had about 100 pitches, but there was no reason to take Danks out hte way he was cruising.
  14. I'm graduating tomorrow and I don't know how to feel. I had a ton of fun at college, and I'll miss that. But I sure as hell won't miss attending classes.
  15. This sucks. Yea, let's give up my number to a s***ty player who should be our 4th outfielder soon. I would be extremely pissed if I bought a Fields jersey.
  16. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb Wow, I never heard about that. Really makes you put things in perspective.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) I've seen enough of Lance Broadway to last a lifetime. I certainly don't have the trained eye of a pro scout, but what the hell could anybody have seen in this guy to take him with your one and only first-round pick? It's going to take a while to undo the damage that wasting back-to-back first-round picks on him and McCulloch have done to our farm. What makes things worse is the 2005 draft may very well go down as one of the best ever, yet we ended up with Broadway.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) The Tigers have best all around team, but KC's really solid. Their bullpen is fantastic...good thing for the AL Central they don't have a 5th starter. Not necessarily. Luke Hochevar is pitching really well in AAA. He should take Ponson's spot soon.
  19. We wouldn't be talking about this had we not given Swisher away for nothing.
  20. QUOTE (JustWin @ May 4, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) Zambrano has been placed on the 15-day DL. I would love to see Zambrano out for an extended period of time and see the cubs really fall back in the race. It's too bad they didn't lose a few more games while Aramis Ramirez was out (he'll probably be back in the lineup tonight). The Cubs are playing just well enough to keep close to St. Louis and if they start clicking like they can, they can take off and not look back. Remember in 2007 they started off badly and then around June 1st they got hot and remained hot the rest of the year. I picked Cincinnati to win the division, don't count them out. They're 13-11 right now and none of their guys have started hitting with the exception of Votto.
  21. QUOTE (G&T @ May 4, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Matt Holliday is not doing so hot. Not too much of a suprise. I'm not sure I would want to trade for anyone that plays at Coors.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 07:13 AM) Yeah, it just killed this team in 2007 and the subsequent 2008 season. This should be the last year on the Sox for anyone associated with 2005 besides for Buehrle and Konerko (due to contract). Dye and Jenks don't look like they'll fit in for 2009 (10 million plus would be too much for either). KW's moves last offseason sure made it seem like he was focused on the 2010-2011-2012 Sox season instead of the 2009, so he should stick to the plan if things don't pan out the first 4 months. BTW, according to Baseball America, Birmingham is the 2nd most exciting minor league team in the country this year. Just an interesting tidbit I heard yesterday. Wouldn't mind getting rid of AJ either.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) Cubs were supposed to face Oswalt on Thursday, but now they'll be facing Russ Ortiz....yay! It seems like the last couple years the Cubs have always found a way to miss the other team's ace. Of course they play the Marlins and miss Josh Johnson, last year they never saw Jair Jurrjens against Atlanta. Do they get Lincecum this week?
  24. It's probably been said a million times in this thread, but it's a complete joke that Lillibridge is in the lineup, let alone leading off.
