  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) I'm willing to bet the kid isnt a long term top of the rotation pitcher in MLB. He is an injury risk IMO already and killer velo guys dont pan out as much as they are touted in HS and college. Just an opionion, but something about a kid putting that much tourque on his shoulder and elbow worries me. You make a great point. Guys like Wohlers and Matt Anderson never really panned out, and Zumaya has had injury problems. And those guys were closers. That being said if I have the #1 pick I wouldn't pass on him, you just don't wanna be the team that passes on a guy like that.
  2. I think so. He's borderline but IMO his postseason success puts him over the top. He would also have a lot more wins but he played on some terrible Phillies teams in the 90's.
  3. I like the WBC, but the format needs to be changed. There's too many pointless games that are played. There's no need for Japan to play Korea five times. What they should do is have only one team advance from the first round instead of two (double elimination), then have the remaining four play double elimination to determine the champ. there's too many games that are played just for seeding, and it's completely pointless.
  4. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 12:37 AM) LOL at Ben Howland complaining about his location for his games. UCLA has not left the state of California for 4 years it seems(outside of final four). How bout dem apples, whiner That's funny. UCLA's sites the past three years? San Diego, Oakland, Sacramento, San Jose, Anaheim. Shut the f*** up Ben.
  5. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 10:44 PM) Mark Grace deserves it before Maddux. Grace had the more hits in the 90s than anybody. He had a much better career as a cub He also never had more than 17 homers in a season, which is awful for a 1B. That being said, I don't think the Cubs should honor Maddux either.
  6. I absolutely love watching Missouri play.
  7. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Hope you didn't put money on that. Just had them in my pool. I still think the Cuse is overrated and I'd be suprised if they got past OU.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) Does anybody want to play Syracuse right now? Unbelievable how deep the Big East is. I'm sure many would agree 'Cuse is a top 20 team in the country. Yet they're probably not a top 5 team in their own conference. Arizona St. will beat the Orangemen
  9. Louisville Missouri Pitt Oklahoma Louisville vs. Pitt Pitt wins it all
  10. Wow, I had no idea they added another meaningless tournament. What a joke, they need to get rid of all of these.
  11. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) Joe Crediocre's ST line so far: .100/.182/.100 in 20 At-bats. "Crediocre" I love it!
  12. QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) The Netherlands are beating P.R. 1x0. The Dutch pitcher looks good. Bases loaded 2 out in the bottom of the 7th with Beltran at the plate. This would be another great upset.
  13. IMO some bad managerial decisions so far. I don't like rotating Jeter and Rollins in the middle of the game. Rollins should play the most since he's the better player, although according to Sutcliffe he's the best player in the history of baseball. I also don't understand why Venezuela wasted Felix Hernandez against Itlay.
  14. QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Congratulations to the Dutch! You deserve every moment of joyce. Your program has improved over the years. I remember being a kid back home watching Cuba trash the Netherlands. In the last few years, the Netherlands have played hard and beaten Cuba, Japan and USA teams. They have players that play in the minors, Mexico and their own league. Let's go USA! I like to see USA vs Cuba in the finals. If I am watching alone, I will be rooting for the Cubans. If my kid is around, I will rooting for the USA then. The security around the Cuban team in Mexico is unreal. The Cuban security personnel do not allow them to do anything. What a shame! Yea there is some decent talent in Curaco and Aruba. Rick Vanden Hurk is a decent pitcher and I assume he'll start the second game. The dutch could have Jair Jurrjens but he opted not to play.
  15. I love the WBC. Yes, there is the injury risk, but guys would pitch just as much in spring training anyways. It's just too bad that guys like Ryan Dempster don't play. Canada would have a legit shot at winning it all if they had Dempster, Harden, and Bedard (although I understand why Harden and Bedard aren't playing).
  16. I'm not saying I hate the trade, but people need to remember we also gave up Kaneoka Texeira in the trade. BA had the guy as the 19th best prospect in the Carolina League where he dominated (0.93 ERA). He could have helped our pen this year.
  17. Snider and Arencibia aren't going anywhere. We might be able to get a guy like Cecil.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Feb 28, 2009 -> 08:52 AM) Kind of a generic/broad question, but where do people go for good baseball coverage? How has the MLB Network been? I'm looking for more of an honest assesment of MLB. Deadspin is good for this but it's not baseball centered and it's a little too jokey sometimes. firejoemorgan was very good but not around anymore. I'm just leery of ESPN and such since they have so much money tied in with MLB and they have idiots covering it. Phillips and Kruk are absolute clowns. I can't believe Phillips was a major market GM at one point with some of the insane things he says. MLB Network is great
  19. The Cubs should win the central, but it won't be the walk in the park their fans think it's going to be. I would worry about the bullpen, Harden isn't healthy, and Ryan Dempster will go back to being a league average pitcher.
  20. The "Baseball's Seasons" show is awesome. They showed 1993 today and it was great watching the Sox highlights and the ALCS.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) Alexei's granny vs the Tigers is bigger than anything DeWayne Wise will ever do. Wise is a bad baseball player who got hot for a week (a week in which the Sox had a losing record) then finished the season with an absolutely horrible slump. 1-10 in the final 3 games (CLE, DET, MIN) and 0-for the big Twins series. 3-31 to finish the season. He hit a grand slam in the 8th inning of a tied ballgame vs DET and a couple solo HRs in a blowout in Kansas City. THAT'S IT. Baseball Reference has the top 5 plays for each game based on WPA (win percentage added). In the month of September DeWayne Wise's name appears twice: he had the #1 play in the second game of the Detroit double header in which he hit the granny and he had the #5 play (a bunt basehit that moved Cabrera to 2nd in the 4th inning) in the first game of the double header. His name makes no other appearance in a White Sox Septembe victory. Talk about overstating a player's worth. He did have the homer in game 1 against TB as well. But overall you're right, he's a career minor leaguer. Owens>>>>Wise
  22. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) Even DePaul managed to beat Indiana State. Hell, NIU beat Indiana St.
  23. Good move by ARod, don't take the same path Bonds and Clemens have. I still think he's a hall of famer, same with Bonds and Clemens.
