  1. Good start for Atlanta, burner with another TD. I at least hope Minnesota loses today and the Bears win so at least next week's games will mean something. It will be interesting to see if Coughlin rests his players next week.
  2. According to Boers and Bernstein, Pat Williams is out 2-6 weeks with a shoulder injury. Too bad it's too little too late.
  3. What the hell is Jeff Fisher thinking? Has a chance to take the lead with a 49-yard field goal yet he goes for it on fourth and three, even though he has Kerry Collins (who had a horrible day) as his QB and a great defense and kicker. Terrible decision.
  4. Moneyball The Bad Guys Won by Jeff Pearlman
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) Wow I had no idea Tebow's numbers were that poor. I was kind of iffy on him being in New York but figured whatever since he won last year, but after seeing those numbers, you guys are right Harrell not there over Tebow is an absolute crime. By the way, it was announced yesterday that Illinois and NIU will play at Champaign in September of 2010. http://niuhuskies.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl.../121008aaa.html I'm a bit surprised that the two don't play more often in football, although I really don't enjoy when they play against each other in anything. I'll be at the game though, that's for sure. Yea, I was glad to hear this. The reason the Illini didn't want anyting to do with NIU the last few years is because the Illini were bad while NIU was having a lot of success. Both teams should be in good shape by 2010 though, can't wait.
  6. It's amazing how many steroid guys the Yankees have had through the years, add another one to the list.
  7. Jerry Owens and Jonathan Hood are part of the group as well
  8. Does anybody think that Santo will get in, but when he dies? I know most former players can't stand him, and i'm thinking that's the only way they vote him in.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) So two things about the Illini v Hawaii game tonight: (1) Gus Johnson rocks. I can't believe the Big Ten Network got him to do this game. I hate Bill Simmons, but I totally agree with him on his love for Gus Johnson. He makes boring games sound like classics. They should clone enough Gus Johnson's so Gus could announce every single sporting event.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:07 PM) Are you suggesting that baseball writers are better, more knowledgeable, voters than the guys who are already in the Hall? I don't necessarily disagree, but I think having those two groups is a nice check and balance. I also like that the final gatekeepers are players. The veterans committee has definately made more questionable selections-like Phil Rizzuto.
  11. The Veterans Committee sucks anyway. If you can't get in on your first 15 tries, you don't deserve to get in.
  12. If it's Dye for Bailey straight up, this is a terrible deal.
  13. Are you sure this is right? I thought they weren't supposed to be released until tonight?
  14. Horrible decision by Del Rio to go for that fourth down.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:25 PM) For this, yes he's an idiot. But no, he's not an overall idiot, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a USC fan. But, this could come back and haunt the Trojans. In 2006, USC went to the Rose Bowl and lost to UCLA 13-9, and at the time, USC was arguably the best team in the country with UCLA being just a "so-so" team. Any time these 2 teams play, UCLA could pull an upset. I hope this doesn't, as you said, bite him in the a**. I'm not saying he's an idiot overall, but this is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.
  16. http://deadspin.com/5101020/youve-got-some...-is-at-it-again Pete Carroll is an idiot. I hope this comes back to bite him in the ass.
  17. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) Right-handed pitcher Javier Vazquez has been told he's headed from the Chicago White Sox to the Atlanta Braves in a deal which is likely to be finalized on Wednesday. Vazquez is flying to Atlanta on Wednesday morning for a physical. A baseball source told ESPN's Peter Gammons that the deal will include four other players, including reliever Boone Logan, who would also go from the White Sox to the Braves. Among the players expected to go from Atlanta to the Chicago organization are Jo-Jo Reyes, Brett Lillibridge and another top prospect. Vazquez, 32, was 12-16 last season for the White Sox with a 4.67 ERA in 33 starts. He struck out 200 batters in 208 1/3 innings. Logan, a left-handed reliever, was 4-4 with a 5.70 ERA out of the White Sox bullpen last year. He had a 2-3 record in 55 appearances. Reyes was 3-11 with a 5.81 ERA last season for the Braves. He started 22 games. Lillibridge appeared in 90 games at Triple-A Richmond in the Braves organization. He hit .220 with four home runs and 39 RBIs. So there are reports that Reyes is involved, and reports that he is. The key is obviously who the other prospect is.
  18. Say what you want about Javy, but I don't like the sound of this.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) Rosenthal is the one guy who seems to know when something is going to happen...my guess is this deal is done. Good luck, Javy, I appreciated your efforts here. Say what you want about Javy, but there is something to be said for a guy who takes the ball every single 5th day for you. I'm starting to think I wouldn't be shocked to see one Jon Garland back on the southside... If were just getting Lillibridge and Reyes, I don't like this move.
  20. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) Article has been updated. Braves are now "on the verge" of acquiring Javy. My friend gets text message updates from ESPN, and gammons is reporting it's a done deal. Didn't mention the players.
  21. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) Not really sure how that works. Nevada had the #5 offense in the nation, and 3 of those 4 OOC teams have at least 6 wins this year. Overall Tech has beaten 7 teams with 6 or more wins on the year. It's not like Tech chose to play two 1-AA teams, Tulsa backed out right before the season started, so Tech had nobody to replace them with. 11-1 with wins over 7 teams with 6 or more wins, and the only loss was at the #2 team in the nation after playing @Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma State, and @Oklahoma. How come nobody is talking about that brutal 4 game stretch that ended in OU? Please, two of those teams are 1-AA, with a 1-11 C-USA team. I understand it's not their fault that Tulsa backed out, but it was still a s***ty non conference schedule.

    Tipping

QUOTE (Steff @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) The bartender doesn't set the price, the bar does. The bartender sees very little of that $5 bottle of beer and busts his or her ass making sure you and, in many cases where staff is small, all the other in the customers in the bar are getting their drinks in a timely manner. The bartender not only takes care of you but takes care of the waitresses who are taking care of all the folks not sitting or standing at the bar. And if you seriously feel like you are getting ripped off why would you go to a bar to drink anyway? It's pretty clear that you can get a case for the cost of a few beer so why not just drink at home? I know it's a facetious question but it's just one I wonder about whenever I hear/see people complaining about the cost of beer out at bars/resturants/etc. I don't see the point in punishing the bartender for the cost of a beer, JMO. Well, if I tip every other beer (which I usually do) I'm still tipping around 20 percent, but I'm not going to give the bartender a dollar tip for every $2 beer I buy (usually the price at the bar I go to at NIU).
