I found WSI before Soxtalk, but I won't post at WSI anymore. I hate the fact that if you say something negative and don't expect the Sox to win the World Series every year, you are a "dark cloud." What I love about this site is the different opinions people have. There is no doubt in my mind that the posters here are a lot more knowledgable than the ones at WSI. Plus, the minor league discussion is a lot better here.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) I don't think that they've ever played the Mets. I think they played them at the Cell in 2002, but I don't remember us ever going to Shea.

Cubs lose. It's a shame that Florida gave the game away yesterday, should be going for a sweep with Volstad tomorrow. The Cubs schedule the next few weeks is a joke.

Gregg making it interesting again.

So there was something in the trib about next year's interleague schedule, though it isn't official yet. Home-Dodgers, Pirates, Cubs Road-Reds, Brewers, Cubs All I can say is, what the f***? The Pirates for the fourth straight year! The Doders for the second year in a row, and the reds for the second time since 2006? I wouldn't hate interleague as much if the same teams didn't play each other every year. At least we get the Brewers.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 12:09 AM) Ozzie really has to stop playing Swisher against LHP. Sub .200 batting average and near .700 OPS. That trade might hurt even more on Sunday.

Two of this year's first round picks didn't sign (with the exception of Josh Fields, who was a senior), Aaron Crow and Gerrit Cole. The Crow thing is interesting because a some people on this board (including me) wanted Crow over Beckham.

Blame goes around tonight. Ozzie sure as hell deserves his share of it for not bringing in Ramirez to face Gonzalez/Cust. This game reminds me off the game last year when the ball went off Podsednik's head.

Sox at Oakland A's Part One

Ramirez should have been in the game to face Gonzalez and Cust. I was saying that before long before the HR. -
I'm with 101 on this, I just don't understand this move. Granted it was against KC, but Broadway has had two solid starts so far, while Richard hasn't proven anything. Maybe there is a trade in the works, or Poreda is getting called up?

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) Overrated. I think he'll turn out like Sweeney who wasn't good enough for the Sox apparently. I mean, I like Danks, but I just don't see him being as good as everyone projects which is better than Ryan. Danks is also a CF, while long term Sweeney is a corner outfielder.

I'll say Washington. At least teams like KC and Cincinnati have won a world series.

Haha you beat me to it.

It will be Broadway, not Carrasco.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) I would be completely for going back to a 1-2 of Swisher-Cabrera. Swisher - CF Cabrera - SS Quentin - LF Dye - RF Thome - DH Ramirez - 2B Griffey/Konerko - 1B Pierzynski - C Uribe - 3B or something along those lines...I love JD in the cleanup but he could potentially work well hitting behind Thome in the 5th spot too with the Griffey/Konerko hitting 6th and Ramirez hitting 7th. But yeah, AJ can drop in the order again and that would be perfectly fine by me. I would have no problem with that, if it was all up to me I'd go- Cabrera-ss Swisher-cf Quentin-lf Dye-rf Thome-DH Ramirez-2b Griffey/Konerko-1b Pierzynski-c Fields-3b

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) Who is our best candidate to hit 2nd, though? Chris Getz? Ramirez? We really don't have any fundamentally-inclined, bunting, hitting to the right side capable guys on this team. It's definitely not Uribe, and Ramirez is a rookie and just doesn't have enough patience at the plate...something like 9 walks. Cabrera should be 2nd, ideally. Another area where somewhere like Tad Iguchi's real impact wasn't easily quantifiable, but you only appreciate it when it's missing/gone...or Crede's defense (when healthy). And AJ has patience at the plate? I think Ramirez, Swisher, Griffey, even Thome are better options. We need more people on base in front of CQ.
-
How come it took this long to start a thread, I think it's a Soxtalk record. Anyway, one more wasted Danks outing. And please Ozzie, everybody else has seen enough of AJ in the 2 spot. We need more people on base ahead of Quentin.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) It's painfully obvious we need to add pitchers. Anyone who denies it is just ignoring a gaping, growing hole. The bullpen is entirely hit or miss, and we're going to have a black hole in the 5th starter spot. If KW doesn't add some depth, we go nowhere. We also need to shuffle the lineup. AJ has no business hitting 2nd.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) Logic went out the window, when Ozzie decided to trot General Soreness out in CF, with a young kid with a no hitter, in the 7th inning in a 1-0 game. None of these scream 38 year old DH in CF. fixed

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:05 PM) Horacio Ramirez in the 8th of a 1 run game? Yikes. He has been good this year.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox15 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) In the suspended game? I just checked he hit one May 5 off Slowey.
