QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) Harden didn't even look that good, as the Giants lineup today had 3 guys who should be starting in the majors. With that said, there's little doubt the Cubs are the best team in baseball. I'll be rooting like hell for the AL on Tuesday. They are the best team in the NL, but there's no way they are the best team in baseball. As for Marmol, I wonder if they will seriously consider sending him down.

A Conversation with Jack McDowell
WhiteSoxfan1986 replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Great article, it's awesome that you got to talk to him. I went and looked at the voting results for the Cy Young in 92 and 93 after reading that. I have to say that McDowell didn't deserve to win it either time. Besides wins, Johnson had better overall numbers in 93, and I thought Clemens should have won in 92. It was a complete joke that Eckersley won the MVP and the Cy Young that year. -
Favre to the Jets

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) Am I the only Bears fan who would take a shot on Favre? Simply to piss off every Packer fan? And also to hope he still has something in the tank? I have always despised Favre, but I would love to see him in Chicago. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) Any more guesses? What decade?

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) Who is the only pitcher in Major League history to never win another game after pitching a no-hitter? Bud Smith? I always remember his no-no because it happened on September 10, 2001. Edit: It actually happened September 3. For some reason I just remember reading about it on 9/11.

What about Broadway? IMO he's a better fit for the long man than Masset, who I've never liked in that spot.

With Konerko coming back, I really hope they get rid of either Uribe or Ozuna. There is absolutely no need for both of them on the roster.

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 05:59 PM) Is it really that bad? I've been looking forward to seeing it. Some people told me they liked it and some didn't like it because it was hard to follow. I thought it was great. Seems like im in the minority though.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) Sheets and CC are mostly likely not going to be resigned. The rotation will be altered to get them in against the cubs as often as possible even if it means going on 3 days rest. The cubs kill Suppan and Bush. I would assume McLung will stay in the rotation, not Bush.

This is a great trade for Milwaukee. They didn't have room for LaPorta anyway, with Braun and Hart at the corner OF spots and Prince at 1B. Even if they lose CC they still get the picks.

QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) I dont wanna be a downer or anything cuz im a swisher fan but does anybody think we'd be better with sweeney than swisher? No. I won't be really impressed with Sweeney untilhe starts hitting for power. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 08:05 PM) Masset reverting back to form lately. Tell me about it. I'm still baffled at how his scouting report before the 2007 season said he threw in the upper 90's.

These uniforms look terrible, same with the Padre ones. I'm all for honoring our country by wearing an American flag patch on the hats and uniforms.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:35 PM) That's exactly my observation -- with his relative health over three season Jenks has lost velocity while Wood, who has endured injury issues for nearly a decade, is throwing just as hard as he did from day one. I've never suggested Jenks is the inferior pitcher, though. It has just been my unsubstantiated belief since last season that Jenks isn't long for this league. You expect hardthrowing pitchers to eventually lose velocity, but it seems to have happened much too quickly with Bobby. How effective will he be at 90-92 mph? I don't know, maybe he'd still be a decent middle reliever (4.00-4.50 ERA). Those are certaintly valuable, and I'm sure if the velocity drop occurs before he reaches free agency we'll still hold onto him. It's amazing how Jenks has gone from a closer with possibly the best stuff in the entire league to a guy with some of the worst stuff of any closer. I mentioned this in the catch all thread the other day, how I wish he would throw the high fastball more to set up his curve. Even though his stuff is down, he's still gets guys out and that's all that matters now. However, I don't think he'll be this good long term.

Why the f*** can't Ozzie pull his pitchers? We have the best and least used bullpen in the entire f***in league. I'm sick of him leaving guys out there when they don't have it.
-
What the hell is up with two straight games on WCIU? I wish they would stop putting games on that damn station.
-
Since nobody has gotten it yet, the other team to be outscored and make the playoffs is the 1984 Royals.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 10:34 PM) I think Chuck Garfein was flirting with Kerry Sayers. I can't really blame him.

I was watching game one of the World Series on DVD the other night, and it was unbelievable watching Jenks dominate. Don't get me wrong, he's been great the last two years, but I just don't have the same confidence that I used to with him. He can still throw 95-96, but he doesn't try to blow the high fastball by anyone now. It's amazing how he's a completely different pitcher now.
-
If they keep this up I don't see how you can really argue against it, they are up there. But it's hard to go against the late 80's/early 90's A's with Eckersley, Honeycutt, and Gene Nelson, and the 1990 Reds with the nasty boys.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 10:16 PM) Dewayne Wise is a 4th outfielder. Let's end this conversation. He's not even that good.

It's nice to see us beat up on Dempster. We can easily win the next two against Gallagher and Marshall.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 09:06 AM) how bout the '05 padres...they have never been able to score the last few years... Yep. one more to go.

Mike North: He gone!
WhiteSoxfan1986 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I actually used to like North when I started listening to the score in around 2002, but now I just can't stand the guy. I would hope they would put either Lawrence Holmes or Jason Goff in that spot. -
We got two of them, 07 Diamondbacks and 87 Twins (who won the series).
