QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 02:21 PM) I really hope Arizona doesn't pitch Webb in game 4. Save him for game 5, because if you lose tomorrow and lose that game with him on the mound, you give the Cubs all the momentum in the world for game 5. Agree 100%. Owings has an ERA of 3.00 the last two months. No point in having Webb go on short rest.

HUGE win tonight. Now at the very worst there is a game 5 in Arizona with Webb on the hill. I still think the Cubs win Saturday because Livan Hernandez blows, but the DBacks should finish it Sunday.

Off-Season NHL Thread

Another dums*** decision by Buttman having the NHL open the same day as the MLB playoffs start. -
Sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but they are always gonna find positive things to say. Every system has a few good prospects. That being said, ours is still one of the worst in baseball.

Word is that the Cubs invited Bartman to sing on Saturday.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 12:32 AM) Different guy. The guy you are thinking off wears sunglasses and has an entire neon getup. This was a younger guy, with spikey hair with a neon cubs clock. A moron none the less. I don't know it looked like the same guy. I'm trying to find pictures but I can't.

QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 11:28 PM) Wait is that the same old man with that has the Sox and Bears lights? It's the same guy. I first saw him at the 2003 NLCS, and he was at the world series two years ago and I think I saw him at one of the Bears playoff games last year. Watch the world series DVD, I think it shows him. And Piniella was absolutely awful tonight. And as people have said, the Chicago media won't rip him at all. Granted we don't know if he was cramping up but if he was fine taking him out in a tie game with only 85 pitches is dumb.
-
I guess it's a good thing Zambrano got that double, because if he didn't Piniella would have bunted like he should have and it would have been 1-1.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) The thing is, it's likely going to rain this wknd in Chicago. Piniella already has given his team the upper-hand by going with a 3 man rotation. For the DBacks standpoint I would rather go with Owings in game 4 and have Webb rested for game 5. Owings has been pretty damn good the last couple of months while Hernandez has been awful, he has no business starting over Owings.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) I keep telling people that the Dbacks should put Micah Owings at 2nd base. He'd be their most dangerous hitter. I wish they would start Owings over Hernandez. At least let Owings start game 4 and go with a 4 man rotation.

The farm system has sucked for a while and it is finally starting to show it's effect. Hopefully, somehow we can find "our Liriano."

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) Friday Night Lights starts up again Friday. For some reason I never got into that show. I watched a couple of episodes and just wasn't interested.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) I can't wait to hear that Sweet Lou wins manager of the year. Watch Hurdle and Melvin get f***ed because of the "retarded vagina", who admitted he voted for Lou. Who is the "retarded vagina"? -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 12:12 AM) Really, I won't lose sleep over who they go with. I haven't looked it up in VORP, but there sure seems like a handful of players who are all really close in terms of value -- off the top of my head I'm thinking about Holliday, Fielder, Pujols, Cabrera, Ramirez, Wright, Utley, Rollins... Heck, why not throw Chipper Jones and his 166 OPS+ into the mix? I'm more just confused by the writers' logic in picking there MVPs. Hell, didn't a year or two ago somebody have Pierzynski in their top ten? Crap like that is ridiculous. To the award the voters really got wrong was giving Eckersley the MVP in 1992. There are certain years when I will feel a closer is deserving of the Cy Young, but to give a guy who pitches 80 innings a year an MVP award is a joke. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 12:09 AM) Even if it's just an opinion, I don't see any way that's happening. The Rockies are playing ridiculous baseball right now, they are getting (and making their own) breaks right now, and the pitching staffs have to be considered pretty equal right now. The Phillies offense is assuredly better, but it's not like the Rockies offense sucks. Personally, as much as I love them, I think way too much credit is being given to the Phillies right now. I just don't think the Rocks have enough pitching. The Phils have an ace in Hamels, and a decent number 2 in Kendrick. And people forget that the Phils have also been on fire.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) Is it Holliday's fault he is on a good team? No, how good your team is shouldn't matter. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) The 1 game play-off is includes season stats, so I assume you include it for picking an MVP candidate. So why not Mr. Holiday? Because Mr. Holliday's OPS is 300 points lower away from Coors. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) It's funny to me you think that a player on a last place team can be the most valuable in baseball. That's maybe the dumbest thing I've ever seen on these boards, which is quite the statement. How can a guy on a 5th or 6th place team be more valuable than every player on all the 1st and 2nd place teams in his league?? Keep in mind here, I'm not one of the he must make the playoffs to win MVP people, but he can't finish in LAST. Your argument is like saying that wins are the most important stat for a pitcher, or that Kyle Orton is actually good because he is 10-3. It's not Hanley's fault that only one of their starting pitchers had an ERA under 5.00. -
That last play really reminded me of the Francisco Cabrera-Sid Bream game in 92. Plus Dan Orsillo sounds a lot like Sean McDonough. And the Phils will sweep the Rockies.

I still don't understand why Arizona bats Chris Young leadooff.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) I'm also surprised with so many people here picking J-Roll. Are people aware of how much better a season Hanley Ramirez had compared to Rollins? I guess that gets into the "What is your definition of MVP?" talk, though, so... Rollins is a much better defensive player. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 01:49 PM) Better year at the plate? J-Rolls was a 20-20-20-20 guy. A-row could never sniff that. Not to mention Rollins was their lead off hitter and igniter at the top of the lineup. It was a tough call between Fielder, Rollins, and Holliday. If Holliday's home/road splits weren't so lopsided I would have gone with him. -
