Last year at NIU I lived in a suite with 2 other guys. The both went home every single weekend. Not to mention everybody else in the dorm pretty much just kept to themselves. I was a transfer living in the upperclassmen dorms, which is A LOT different.

Official Hate for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) So, if the Cubs make the playoffs, I want to see them play either the Padres or Mets. The Mets seems like a longshot, as either the Braves or Phillies would have to make a big run to make the WC. I just hope that Peavy, Young, and Webb can stay healthy the rest of the way. My guess is they will probably play Arizona, who I don't believe in. Granted, Webb will probably be able to pitch 2 games in the 5 game series. -
Just another day in the worst baseball season of my life.

Is this the worst year in your Soxfandom?
WhiteSoxfan1986 replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Since I have been a fan this has been the worst season (although I was fortunate enough to be at Buehrle's no-no). I don't remember 94 too well, but that could very well be the worst. -
Let's hope they get this one in. A strong start from Danks would be nice.

One more year man, one more year.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) I have had a sore/ichy throat for 6 days now, and my doc told me the meds I'm on can take up to 3 weeks to work....... I had a horrible cough a couple of months ago that lasted about a week. Nothing is worse than the sore throat.

Don't buy from the bookstore, that's for sure. I usually wait to see if I will actually need the book, then buy from amazon, half, bookbyte, etc. Last semester I had a friend in a couple of my classes and we just shared the book. I learned a lesson my first semester in college when I spent $500 at the bookstore and never used half of them. Hell, if you had a scanner you could buy the books, scan every page, and return them. I actually talked to a guy who did that.

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 05:02 PM) He's a freshman Exactly, he can practically have any schedule he wants. Sometimes I get stuck with that kind of schedule now, but Fresh/soph year I could have any schedule I wanted.

QUOTE(Beastly @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 08:35 AM) I've got Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes at 9:00, 11:00 and 3:00. All 50 minute periods. I have classes on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00-9:40, 1:30-2:45 and 3:00-4:15. So it's not that bad at all. You actually like having all those breaks between classes?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 11:20 PM) Johan has no shot IMO. The numbers are quite even between him and a few guys, and they will have bias against just picking Johan again as you've see in MVP and Cy Young races in the past (when Johan HAS won, he didn't have people with comparable numbers to him like he does this year). Plus, he can't make a surge for himself by pitching his team into the playoffs. Bedard IMO is the favorite since he's going to finish with over 250 strikeouts and a high 2.something ERA, but Haren has a pretty good shot too and Escobar is helped by the team he's on being the only of the 4 with a shot at the playoffs where he can boost his case. Plus, keep in mind the numbers 14-4, 13-4 and 14-7 (Escobar is going to win tonight). People look at those way too often as a true stat, and comparing those three to Johan's 13-9 won't help him. It's a shame that they didn't give Johan the Cy Young in 2005. Colon winning was a joke.

I have to say, I played Madden on the 360 and I prefer the PS3 version better. IMO they changed the gameplay too much.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) Did everybody start this week? I know UofI doesn't start till the 27th, and we (Marquette) don't start to the 27th. Sort of sucks that I have to live in a dorm this year, but I'll make do. At this point I just want to get to Friday -- I'm all alone :sadface. NIU is the 27th as well. At least I only have class Tue-Thu

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) Yeah, underage drinking in general isn't exactly anything to write home about, as long as he wasn't driving. 99 percent of college kids do this, just so happened he got caught. Claussen is a dummie though, you never go WITH the person buying the alcohol for you, duh. What sucks is they got in trouble for Natural light. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) First of all, please let it go and get off his jock, we got a really good starter locked up for a few years in his place. Although not his fault, Young has actually HURT the D-Backs offense this year with his .290 OBP and 100 K to 30 walk ratio in the leadoff spot. I also enjoy the fact that ESPN thinks he should be in that final slot instead of Justin Upton, Jose Valverde, hell even Micah Owings, but that's here nor there. I still cant figure out why he's in the leadoff spot.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) I suppose we will see Wasserman get sent down... I see no point in bringing in Myers. If Wasserman gets sent down I will be really pissed. -
Baltimore had some good years in the 90's, and Toronto had it's heyday in the late 80's/early 90's. That's another thing I don't like about the 3 division format, the same teams are in the playoffs year in-year out.

QUOTE(shipps @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) Am I alone in thinking Micheal Cera and Jonah Hill of "Superbad" are going to have long successful careers in comedic films?I dont think I solely enjoyed the movie on the writing of the script alone, those guys were amazing in the delivery. The guy who played Fogell will be big as well.

I have been thinking about this recently, and I kind of think it would be better if baseball went back to the four division format and cut the playoff teams in half. The last two years an 83 win team and an 82 win team have made the playoffs, which is a joke. Combine that with the fact that the NL central winner will most likely have less than 85 wins this year. I just get the feeling that sooner or later there will be a below .500 team in the playoffs (The Rangers were about 10 games under .500 in 94 at the time of the strike and were leading the West). -Since divisional play began in 1969 until MLB expanded after 1993, three teams have made the playoffs with 85 wins or less not including strike years(87 Twins, 84 Royals, 73 Mets). -Since MLB expanded there have been 3 teams with 85 wins or less make the playoffs(06 Cards, 05 Padres, 97 Astros). So there have been just as many mediocre teams in the playoffs with the new format and it has been around 11 years while the old one was around for 24. Granted, with the old format you had teams with great records who would miss out on the playoffs. The 93 Giants are the first team that comes to mind. It just bugs me that it's not necessarily the best team that wins it all, but the team who is hot at the right time, as evidenced by so many wild card teams in the world series recently. I'm not taking anything away from last years Cardinals, they did what they had to do to win. But it's a joke that a team that had no business in the playoffs gets hot and wins it all.

There is no way Contreras should start another game the rest of the year. I actually liked what I saw from him during his brief bullpen stint.
