White Sox Devil Rays, 6/27/07 (W)
WhiteSoxfan1986 replied to Balance's topic in 2007 Season in Review
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 05:37 PM) Good to know Citron can't pinch hit tonight. Side note, should we see Gonzo at short and 2B some time? Those are his NATURAL positions and I suspect we will have openings there next year. He has no business in center, that's for sure. -
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Betemit for Dye straight up would be fantastic value for us at this point, imo. IMO we are better off hanging on to Dye and taking the compensation picks. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) Interesting....I could absolutely swear that he signed a major league contract and somehow he becomes a free agent when that deal is up. I know I've read all over the place that the Orioles are going to do everything they can to sign him this off-season. I am pretty sure he signed a major league deal when he was drafted, not sure how that works in terms of free agency.

Timo Perez made the team

"Shooter" was a good movie. I suggest renting it.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:35 AM) why not? He has a plus fastball and a plus-plus curveball. He was drafted fourth overall in the thoughts of him ebing a future ace. He was rushed, IMO. Anything can happen, this is baseball... Also, I personally see him as a 2 or 3, but hey, thats just me. I still don't think he ends up as a #1 or #2. At best I say a #3, probably more of a back of the rotation guy or a even a good bullpen arm.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 11:45 PM) Prior amounted to something more then a #4 starter. He amounted to becoming a cy young candidate and led the Cubs in the playoffs to almost a world series. And just because you don't think they will amount to anything more then a 4th starter doesn't mean they will. Floyd is still considered a possibly no. 2 or even 1. And if Prior finally leaves the Cubs, he can return his dominant stuff. I should say that I meant they have been busts SO FAR. And Prior has had about three decent years in the big leagues, so I shouldn't call him a bust. That being said you are kidding yourself if you think Gavin ends up being a #1 or #2 starter.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) 10 out of 25 is not bad at all, and the jury is still out on Prior and Floyd. Its 14 out of 25. I highly doubt either of those two amount to more than a #4 starter. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 11:37 PM) I wouldn't really call Mark Prior a bust. He dominated until getting hurt, which isn't his fault. A lot of the pitchers on that lists are busts because they got hurt. Thats the risk you take drafting a pitcher, especially a high schooler.

Jacque Jones to Floridaaaaa

QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) Robert Valido is 22 years old, and although he's struggled lately, is worth keeping around. Giving up on young players with talent at 22 is dubious. Robert Valido will never make the majors. He has been awful for two straight years, not to mention he was caught using steroids. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) We'll you really feel that much better if the team finishes at 75-87 than if they finished at 63-99? Either way you miss the playoffs but one of them brings you a much higher draft pick. But there is a pretty good chance that draft pick will bust. And with the Sox who don't take Boras clients, that chance increases. Top 5 draft picks from 1998-2002. They say it takes at least five years to judge a draft, so I took the 2002 draft and the four before it. 14 out of the 25 picks are busts. 1998 1. Pat Burrell 2. Mark Mulder 3. Corey Patterson 4. Jeff Austin 5. JD Drew 1999 1. Josh Hamilton 2. Josh Beckett 3. Eric Munson 4. Corey Myers 5. BJ Garbe 2000 1. Adrian Gonzalez 2. Adam Johnson 3. Luis Montanez 4. Mike Stodolka 5. Justin Wayne 2001 1. Joe Mauer 2. Mark Prior 3. Dewon Brazelton 4. Gavin Floyd 5. Mark Texeira 2002 1. Bryan Bullington 2. BJ Upton 3. Chris Gruler 4. Adam Loewen 5. Clint Everts Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but I cant just root for the Sox to lose for a higher draft pick, when there is a better than 50% chance that player will bust.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 09:45 PM) Hey, I got no problem with the team losing everynight if it means we get Pedro Alvares/top player in the draft next year. We aren't making the playoffs this year, and we are severly lacking in top talent. I love the White Sox, but I'd have no problem with the team losing every single game from here on out. My prediction though is that for the next few weeks we play good, so KW thinks theres a chance, so doesn't trade anyone, and then in the 2nd half we are terrible again. That will piss me off more then anything. As bad as we are we still wont get the #1 pick. It's not a guarantee that our pick will turn out good anyways. I'd rather finish .500 than get the #1 pick.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) I will not root against this team. I would like to see a lot of trades made and yet the Sox win the World Series with a young team ala the 1980 olympic hockey team. I can't root against the Sox. I can't believe some of the people on this board are rooting against them so we can get a better draft pick in a draft where half the players end up being busts. And they complain the Sox will f*** up the pick anyway. -
Danks finally gets a win!!!

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) NO part of that makes sense. Even if he were pitching incredibly well it would still make no sense to do something like that at this point in the season. I was talking about Guillen, thought everybody would get that. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) Anyway to watch this for free? ESPNEWS could be showing it. BBTN will for sure.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) What happened to Aardsma? Good question. I would much rather have him or Macdougal in there than Buckvich. -

Send Masset down to AAA, why the hell is he still up here. I still have no idea why they pulled Danks after 88 pitches. -

There is no reason for Danks not to be in the game. -
I have been in favor of trading Jenks for awhile. His loss of velocity in only his 3rd year is concerning. I can't remember the last time he struck somebody out with his fastball. I honestly think he's more of a flash in the pan than a long term closer. The Phillies need help, and if they offered a package built around Carlos Carrasco KW should definately listen.

QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:37 AM) The following people are waving back: Maine - 2.90 ERA El Duque - 2.77 ERA Oliver Perez - 3.16 ERA You actually think those guys will keep that up?

Who will you most blame for MB being traded?

Reinsdorf, no question about it. -
Josh Fields and team's lack of clutch hits
WhiteSoxfan1986 replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have been satisfied with Fields production so far. Before he came up, most people said they would be ok if he hit .220.
