  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) Now I'm concerned about the velocity for Jenks. His pitch speed was way down today. He shouldn't be sitting in the 91-92 mph range. What was his velocity like last night? I know he has been good this year but I would have no problem trading him if we do end up being sellers (which will most likely be the case). 91 mph straight as an arrow isn't too hard to hit. That being said when you score two runs in a game you are going to lose most of the time. Greg Walker and the offense deserve most of the blame again.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) When's the last time he was around a losing team? From what I can recall, every team he's been associated with in his coaching career has been a division contender. Montreal, and his first year or two in Florida.
  3. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) Why do you say that? I don't know anything about him, except that W/L wise, the Marlins did a lot better than most expected. Just wondering what his story is. Josh Johnson threw 80 pitches, Girardi sent him back out there after a two hour delay, he hasn't pitched since. A lot of their other pitchers have been hurt as well.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) And Andy Gonzalez is a right fielder like you are. ?
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) My #1 goal is for Fields to start getting some good contact. I also would like to see Anderson called up sooner than later. It's worthless to keep putting Owens out there. I would love to see Anderson get another shot so we can see if he's in any of our future plans. Who knows if Ozzie will allow that though.
  6. Sorry, I just got home. Why the f*** is Andy Gonzalez in right?
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) That's the closest statement to the truth I've heard Hawk say in quite awhile. "It's one thing to struggle against Doc Halladay. Another to struggle against pitchers you would only describe as average. We're making cy-youngs out of a lot of people." Hawk may be a homer but he's not stupid.
  8. One guy who is still available is Seth Blair from Rock Falls, IL. He was BA's #188 overall prospect, but has a strong commitment to Arizona St. so probably won't sign. Remember the Sox drafted Jordan Danks late in the drat two years ago and made a run at him.
  9. Chat transcript with BA's John Manuel
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) No...it would be great if someone from our minors actually overachieved based on their expectations. The last person to do that has to be Buehrle. I've just always thought of Gio as more of a #4 or 5 guys. There's nothing about his numbers, while repeating AA in a pitcher's park, that makes me think he's going to be a standout starter. If Danks can be a 2/3 and Gio can be a 4/5 though, we have the makings of a competitive staff. You also have to remember that last year he was young for AA. The main thing I worry about with Gio is his ability to stay healthy.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 10:52 PM) Hopefully we dont see Podsednick next year. Its over, this season is over. Or Erstad Some of the money we could have spent on Porcello will probably be spent on another year of Erstad.
  12. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) they play in milwaukee in 2001. i saw them there, and i remember it was 2001 b/c we saw canseco, and he only had 1 year with the sox, and that was 2001 I was at one of those games. Jose hit an absolute bomb.
  13. He should get a standing ovation. Who knows though, maybe some of the "new" Sox fans will boo.
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) If this isn't blown up, Kenny should be. I know we have to wait another month or so, but blow it up. Hopefully JD gets his head out of his f***in ass so we can actually get something for him.
  15. Same movie, different day of the week. This is one of the worst bullpens ever. When will Greg Walker be held accountable?
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) I'm going to catch some s*** for this, but the Cubs are easily going to be the superior Chicago team over the next 3 years. That team has a ton of talent, and they're actually playing some good ball now. Once they get ARod next year, they're going to have an incredible team. Fire away on me now, I can take it. They might compete for a playoff spot, nothing more than that. Their farm system is nothing special either.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) I've been patient in terms of saying blow it up all year, but after tonight, it's time to drastically change the look of this team. This team just isn't good. Dye should be the first one to go. I'm with you, but I just get the feeling KW will think were still in it and trade some of our young guys.
  18. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) Detroit takes Crosby. That is 2 arms that should have been drafted by the Sox that Detroit got. This f***ing pisses me off. I said it earlier and I'll repeat it. This is why Detroit will be competing for the pennant while we will be around .500 the next few years.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) He's one of the worst 2nd baseman I've ever seen. He makes Jeff Kent look good. Please KW....don't bring back Iguchi. Lets not go that far.
  20. Miller High life might be the worst beer ever.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) Anybody got a scouting report on Middlebrooks? Why is he slipping so far? 36. Will Middlebrooks, 3b/rhp School: Liberty-Elyau HS, Texarkana, Texas. Class: Sr. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-4. Wt.: 215. Birthdate: 9/9/88. Scouting Report: Kevin Ahrens isn't the only blue-chip third-base recruit Texas A&M could lose to the draft. Where Ahrens gets compared with Chipper Jones, the more athletic Middlebrooks draws Cal Ripken Jr. and Scott Rolen comparisons. Selected to play in a Texas high school football all-star game, Middlebrooks drew college interest as a quarterback and punter. He's also a 6-foot-4, 215-pound righthander with a low-90s fastball and an occasional plus curveball. But his future is at the hot corner. He's not quite as polished a hitter as Ahrens, but he's not far off and his size gives him leverage that will produce power. He's an athletic third baseman with good range and a strong arm, and he runs well for his size. Middlebrooks is a consensus supplemental first-rounder, but he could sneak into the first round with the right club. AVG AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB .581 74 38 43 16 1 5 35 17
  22. QUOTE(R.J. @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) How about Middlebrooks or Carpenter this round I would love to have Carpenter, forgot he was still available. He is a DE soph, so he'll be a tough sign.
  23. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) W€ll at least we didn't draft his brother Mike!
