  1. Generally the comcast guns are take a few mph off, although once in awhile Garland will throw 111.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 12:22 AM) Speaking of Gus, Bill Simmons has had some great comments about Gus lately. Is it safe to say that Gus is the breakout individual of this tournament? Why did James Brown have to sign with CBS? This weekend won't be the same without Gus, it's a shame. James Brown might be the worst CBB announcer ever.
  3. QUOTE(shaneomacfan @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) Ok, now that we're just waiting for the press conference, I'd like to add a The names that I'm hearing the most are Altman, Kruger, and Crean. I might give Gary Barta a hug if he's able to bring in Crean. Other than that, sounds like we're at risk of losing Tyler Smith as well as a few recruits. However, we're gonna suck balls next year anyway and the new coach can hopefully bring some of his own recruits along. We're just a wee bit excited about the fact that he's finally gone here Altman would be a great choice. Didn't Crean turn down the Illinois job in 03? If that's the case, I don't see why he would go to Iowa. I happen to think he is overrated anyway.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) Bruce Pearl isn't leaving Tenn for Iowa. That said if Alford goes I'd think we'd even consider making Neal the HC. I think we would have liked to have had the ISU coach and Iowa is the school he'd have preferred to go to (compared to ISU) but that is done now. I don't understand why Alford would rather go to New Mexico. He has a good contract at Iowa although I'm sure he knows he's in pretty deep right now. I would be completely shocked if Pearl did go to Iowa, but even if there was a chance he would be my first choice.
  5. QUOTE(shaneomacfan @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) Reports starting to pop up in IC that New Mexico asked to talk to Stevie Wonder, now it sounds like he's told some players that he's leaving. If true, there's gonna be a huge party here. Who do you guys think would make a good replacement? Lowery(sorry SIU guys), Altman, Kruger? I'll take anything at this point! Pearl would be my first choice. The three guys you mentioned are good choices as well.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:36 AM) My prefered lineup: 1. Erstad LF 2. Iguchi 2B 3. Thome DH 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Pierzynski C (Hall vs. lefties) 7. Crede 3B 8. Uribe SS 9. Anderson CF Too bad that will NEVER happen. I agree. The only changes I wouldn't mind are Crede ahead of AJ.
  7. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) 1 word for you Bradnell. that is bradley and bucknell, we seem to have a problem with mid majors. SIU starts with an S If it was Belmont you guys would have a problem. I'd be pretty suprised if SIU won this game.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) HA! You should go back to the original 'Erstad Signs' thread and check out some of the posts in there. It was what 2 months ago and I had it as a foregone conclusion even then that he would be taking over for Anderson as the starting CF to start the season. This isn't exactly coming as a surprise to me. There was no way Ozzie Guillen was going to use the Greatest Grinder In Grinding History as a bench player, it goes against everything he's done over his 3 years as the White Sox' Manager. I figured there would be a chance of that-if BA had an awful spring. Yet he's hitting .300 and it's still gonna happen. There is no way in hell someone can justify starting Erstad in center. Even if BA hits .250 (which, given the amount of playing time he should get, I see him hitting at least .250) he is more valuable than Erstad. I guess we have to remember this is the guy who thought of batting Uribe #2 last year.
  9. When we signed Erstad I liked the move because I figured he would be a guy who could back up in the outfield and play a little first, I would have been completely against the move if I would have known he had a good chance of starting. If it's Pods and Erstad 1-2, we may very well have the worst 1-2 in all of baseball.
  10. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 12:10 AM) I'm right up there with you So far-10/16 8/8 4/4 Man I checked Sunday and was thinking I was on top. It wasn't updated yet, but I'm still in 3rd.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) He had some quality players on his roster last year, but they played no defense at all. Roby is a big-time talent who seems to have regressed. There were some very skilled players like Chris Copeland who never put it all together on the court. As you said thought, anything is better than Judson. When I was there a few years ago, his players absolutely hated him. Supposedly that was still the case
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 02:03 AM) His resume, outside of the very end at Colorado, really says that your full of s*** on this one. I'm normally pessimistic about NIU since i'm on campus and see all the bad (lol), but everybody loved the Judson hiring (and Patton is 5 times better than Judson even if your right about Patton) and we saw how that went. Phillips last hire for basketball here has worked out really well on the women's side, so I'll wait and see. If he can get the people out of the public league we should be getting (a la Kevin Johnson and Tim Flowers from Simeon), he'll be fine. I'm not sure what to think about this hire. They said they would go after an experienced coach and they did. I prefered Gillen, and I wouldn't have a problem with an assistant. McClain would be a good fit (except for the rumor in the Jamar Smith incident) and I would have liked Collins (He could very well land the ISU job). Colorado is a tough place to win at, and as you said we need to be getting the public leaguers. It will be interesting to see if anybody transfers, although IMO the only one that would really hurt is Yelder. Hopefully House still shows up as well.
  13. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) No talk about the Cartman Sucks episode? hahaha It was good, doesn't top last week's though.
  14. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) I'm sitting pretty on top of the Soxtalk yahoo pool Nailing UNLV over Wisconsin was helpful, and Texas became my second wrong sweet sixteen pick and first wrong elite eight team. Oh well, bracket is still alive I'm right up there with you So far-10/16 8/8 4/4
  15. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 02:19 PM) Please don't take CLO from SIU! I honestly don't think C-lo would go to Michigan or Minnesota, assuming he does get a raise which he deserves. I could see him going to UK if they fire Tubby, but they won't hire a mid-major coach.
  16. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 01:32 AM) Yeah I agree. I just think it's ironic that a couple days ago, a bunch of radio time and column space were devoted to how IL was the last team in and they really didn't deserve to make the tournament (and I agreed at the time). And now you get column's like Morrisey's in the Trib where he says IL wasn't really a 12 seed nor VTU a 5. Whatever. I don't see how people can claim IL shouldn't have made the dance and then turn around and act like IL was the 5 seed. It's annoying. First of all there was sarcasm in my first post, I know everyone's pissed because the team pissed their pants. I don't care what seed you are, you have to win that game. 12-0 run? You have to be kidding me.
  17. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) Basically Big Ten baseball sucks. The weather just puts them at way too big of a disadvantage against SEC, ACC and teams from conferences in the West. A perfect example.... My freshman year in college (I played at Evansville) we had practiced outside for all of about 2 1/2 weeks. We opened the season with two wins over Austin Peay (one at their place, one at ours). We then left on our Spring Trip, stopping in Atlanta to play Georgia Tech on the way. We get there and on the marquee outside the stadium it said... Baseball Today #2 Yellow Jackets (17-0) vs. Evansville Needless to say we left town at 2-2 and GA Tech at 19-0. At least next year they will have the uniform start date which will help the competitive balance.
  18. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 01:18 AM) I actually was surprised by how competitive ILL was. I really thought they'd get blown off the court, and they almost won it. It's hard to believe a team can win 23 games and take a strong ACC team (5 seed to their 12) down to the wire and yet look so bad the entire season. It's too bad -- if they had lost by the same score but in a different way, it wouldn't have generated nearly the media and fan derision this will. You'd think this was like Duke losing to VCU given the fan/media reaction. I have to wonder if the program and athletic department were run in a classier way, maybe the media would not be as negative as they are.... I'm pretty sure everyones pissed because they had the game and choked. I can't believe Va Tech scored the last 12 points.
  19. 30-2 so far, sweet sixteen still there. My best 1st round ever, ten times better than last year when I lost 3 elite eight teams.
  20. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) This is insane. I'm 23 for 23, and Oregon's winning. 22-1, all sweet sixteens left
  21. Well I fared great today with Duke my only loss. Indiana fans, I think you guys are gonna give UCLA a battle Saturday.
  22. Screw CBS for making me watch pointless fould when they should have switched to the VCU-Duke game. I can't stand when they do that.
