BEARS in THE SUPERBOWL!
WhiteSoxfan1986 replied to rangercal's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 21, 2007 -> 11:34 PM) I've been having trouble deciding who my next Bears jersey will be, and as much as I love the big names, I don't want to go with one of them. Maynard would actually be a pretty kickass jersey to get.. The only guy who I can say I know are going to be around for a while is Urlacher, and everybody has an Urlacher jersey. I have one because I got one that's almost an authentic for $100, but that's the only reason. I bought a Berrian jersey (before the playoffs), because he has always been one of my favorites and nobody else has him. BTW, I liked this quote from Dungy yesterday. "Why do we have to go to Miami? We should just play in Fort Wayne." -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 21, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) I've heard it all season long and I'll continue to say what I have said. I believe in Rex Grossman as the Bears QB and I Believe in this Bears football team. I'd comment on how most of Rex's incomplete passes in the first half were on blitzes where he made the right call and threw the ball away (aside from his missed TD pass to Clark) but I won't get myself all fired up about this. I'll just wait and go with my belief that Rex and the Bears will come out and play good football in 2 weeks. Rex wasn't great, but he made big plays and didn't committ any turnovers. -

QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jan 21, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) do you guys agree with this assessment? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...ents/index.html Can't say I disagree with that. The thing is, it is the Bears vs. the Colts, not Rex vs. Peyton. The media fails to realize that there are 53 guys on a roster, not 1. That s*** pisses me off. -

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jan 21, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) I'm fairly sure that game was on CBS, but yeah, I see your point. I love the PAC 10 games because of the unusual times compared to other conferences. Zoom, is that Michael Thompson? It was FSN, and I'm sure Comcast showed it. -

Well, it's good to see a nice midwestern superbowl. I'm glad Peyton finally made it, I've always been a fan of his. It kind of sucks that the year he finally makes it I have to root against him, but I won't complain -

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jan 20, 2007 -> 08:15 PM) Does ESPN pick these gameday games in advance or is it like football where they wait until a week or so before to decide? This UNC-G Tech game should be a blowout and isn't the best matchup on tap tonight. It's a shame ESPN doesn't have a PAC 10 agreement because I would love to see UCLA and Arizona battle in primetime. Not that it wasn't on tv, but the PAC 10 needs and deserves all the exposure it can get this year. Also A&M and Ok State would have been a better matchup. I guess ESPN has to suck up to the ACC, specifically the state of North Carolina as much as possible. Not getting Comcast at NIU, I don't get to watch too many Pac-10 games and it sucks. I wish they would show more of them and the SEC instead of every single Duke game. -
ESPN showing Simeon vs. Oak Hill tonight.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 10:21 PM) I already burned the Bears/SHawks game on a DVD but I'm doing the NFL Replay as well, the extra content is just outstanding, I love the NFL Films sideline audio. Don't care too much for replay, but I love the game of the week. Just the highlights with sideline and locker room audio. BTW I think they are showing the Bears friday. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 12:45 PM) Even as a biased baseball fan, you HAVE to have an AS game at Yankee Stadium in its last year. It wouldn't be right otherwise. The only problem is they will probably get the 2010 game as well. -

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 14, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) Retarded challenge costs the Chargers from having 2:00 to drive , instead 1:20 Yep, it ended up being huge. I saw that a lot this year, coaches challenging when it made no sense whatsoever. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 14, 2007 -> 04:40 AM) They've said it's due to Rex's awesome ability to run play action, and they don't want to ever eliminate that option by taking a shotgun snap. Right or wrong, that's just what i've heard numerous times. They never used the gun before Rex, it didn't matter who the QB was. I haven't seen them use the gun in at least five years. It makes no sense, with Rex's size and the fact he used it all the time in college. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 14, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) After that turn of events, Bears absolutely need a touchdown. STEP 1: Bring...in...Benson. Jones' jukin' and jiven' doesn't appear to be doing much these last few drives. I don't know why they aren't using Cedric more. He has a good series, then he disappears. Also, Devin Hester annoys me with all these fumbles, don't pick up the bal when you have nowhere to go. Big win for the Bears though, It got pretty nerveracking. Hopefully we take care of the Saints next week. -

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) the announcers at the end were fawning so much over them it was almost sickening I'm quite sick of the Reggie Bush fawning as well. They cream themselves if he makes a block. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 10:20 AM) Those are some pretty solid bowl pairings you have there. The only question is what determines who goes to the BCS title game? The funny thing is. Back in the day there was a vote to determine the national champion. Everybody hated that because it didnt allow for a game to decide, and it ended in split titles. Now we have voting to decide who plays the game, and has also ended in split titles. What really has changed other than teams waiting an extra week to play? You would have BCS standings after the bowl games. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 02:42 AM) From the same article: The guy makes a point, but it's also not fair that florida gets to play a tough game every week in the SEC while teams can just roll through the big east or ACC. USC had it prett easy the last few years in the PAC-10. You could just do #1 VS. #4 and #2 vs. #3 in the games. But it would ruin a lot of tradition. -
QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 02:25 AM) Yes you better say to recruiting, becasue as long as self is there you will have great talent and not do a singe thing in the tourny. As long as Self's at KU and Bruce is at Illinois KU will continue to be the better program. No first round flameout for KU this year either.

One system that could work would be to go back to the old bowl system and restore tradition, then take the top 2 teams and play the title about a week later. The only problem is you could end up with everyone winning. For example, 2006 would look like this- Rose-Ohio St. vs. USC Sugar-Florida vs. Michigan Orange-Wake vs. Louisville Fiesta-OU vs. LSU Then you would have to make one of the other bowls a BCS game. -

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 07:56 PM) I'd say so, unless they promote Jeff Brohm to offensive coordinator (currently the QB coach) and then maybe Brian stays. I'd say he's good as gone too. I don't understand Walker leaving either. He's a second day pick at best. Another guy is Danny Ware from Georgia. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) This is from collegefootballnews.com, I agree with this completely and it has always been my feelings on college football: I'd be against a 16 team playoff (logistically it's not possible anyway), and probably an eight team playoff. I say they just go to the "plus one" system. What people don't seem to understand is college football has a great regular season, better than the one CBB has IMO. Who cares what the people who are only fans for a week think. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) Is it me or does it seem kind of stupid for Gonzalez to jump to the NFL? In a year where there are already early entries that include Dwayne Jarrett, Calvin Johnson, Sydney Rice and even Robert Meachem... Along with seniors, are there not already enough WR's sitting ahead of him? That doesn't account for the possibility of Ginn and any others I may have forgotten. Potential seniors ranking ahead of him: Jeff Samardzjia, Dallas Baker, Dwayne Bowe, Norris Drinkard, Rhema McKnight, Ryan Moore, Steve Smith, Courtney Taylor, etc. It just seems to me he is destined for 2nd round or later. Thoughts? Herbstreit said Monday that he thought Gonzalez, ginn, and pittman would go pro. I understand Ginn, but not the other two. I thought it would have been smart for Michael Bush to stay, as he might not be able to work out at full strength. He still could very well be a first rounder though. Any word on Brohm?
