Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
WhiteSoxfan1986 replied to BobDylan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 08:11 AM) So the cubs beat writer Paul sullivan is on the score right now and just slammed the Sox on the garcia trade, saying they traded one of the best established pitchers on the trade market for two nothings. I agree. Who cares what Sullivan thinks. He probably thinks the Cubs got Lilly for a bargain. -

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:43 AM) Holy crap, is there another move coming soon? In the press conference announcing the trade, KW first says that this move gives the Sox the opportunity to move the McCarthy into the rotation. Later on he says that Floyd will compete with him for the last spot. I highly doubt Floyd ends up in the rotation. He'll either start in AAA or pitch out of the pen. We know about his fastball and his curve, but does anybody know anything about his change? Maybe he's just a two pictch pitcher. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) Regardless of what you all think of the trade.....am I the only one that thinks Gio is going to be REALLY good?? Floyd is a risk, but I guess they think Coop can fix him.....but I'm ecstatic to have Gio back. He certainly has a chance. He's not in the same class as the Adam Millers, Mike Pelfreys, and Homer Baileys of the world but he's in the next group. Here are his stats from this year. Reading 7-12 4.66 154.2 IP 166 SO 24 HR 81 BB .239 avg Peoria (AFL) 0-0 2.81 16 IP 20 SO 10 BB 1 HR .224 avg Not bad numbers, especially considering he was 20 playing in double-A. The walks and the home runs do worry me, but he has upside. -

I can't believe how much some of you are overreacting. I was kind of disapointed in the trade, Floyd doesn't do a whole lot for me, maybe he can be a pretty good middle reliever. I saw some of the market, I saw Soriano get traded for Ramirez. I thought we might make out like absolute robbers. But some people on this board thought we could get Pelfrey and heilman, hell some people thought we could get Hamels. Where are all the people who always complain about our minor league pitching? Gio instantly becomes our best starter, and he should be ready by 2008. Granted I'm biased because he was my favorite minor leaguer (hey, I think I was the first to mention him in the rowand thread ) -And I really hope this puts an end to the Rowand talk -

QUOTE(scotty22hotty @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) s***ty trade Traded an allstar for two kids All-star? Give me a f***in break. -
QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) John Delcos of The Journal News says Rich Harden's name is coming up more in talks between the A's and Mets than Joe Blanton's and that a package of Lastings Milledge, Aaron Heilman and Philip Humber could get a deal done. From Roto: What would it take for the sox to get those 3? We won't get those three. Garcia/Vazquez could maybe net us Humber and Heilman.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) On paper it looks like an absolute steal for the Bravos, but did Soriano ever come back after the line drive to the head? How will that effect him? Last I heard he was doing well in winter ball, but you can't put a whole lot of stock in that. I still say it's a steal for ATL.
-
Rosenthal is saying it's not a done deal. The Braves are going to get Mike Gonzalez, so that could have an effect. If it does happen, I can't wait to see what we get for Freddy/Vazquez.
-
Good thing MLB finally got around to this, can't wait.
-
Unless the Braves are throwing in a prospect, this is an absolute steal for Atlanta.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) Another episode of your favorite, Which One Does Not Belong. From rotoworld: Man I hope the Cubs sign Meche for around $10 million. That would be worse than the Soriano signing. Meche had a 5.14 ERA away from the friendly confines of Safeco field last year.

Houston is an interesting trade partner, but I would rather have Troy Patton than Hirsch. Patton's more of a high upside guy. Maybe Burke+Patton for Freddy.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) Morse got caught in the Seattle system, right? I thought Olivo was caught doing something illegal in our system. I could definitely be mistaken. I certainly don't intend to start any nasty rumors. Morse got suspended with Seattle, but he said the positive test was when he was with us.

yeeeeeeessssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That being said I wouldn't be suprised if Mack plays a lot of center if BA struggles.

You know the markets f***ed when Drew gets more money coming off a subpar year than he did coming off a career year two years ago.

Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) The Phils don't have the prospects I'd want to make this deal plausible. If somehow we got Rollins instead of Rowand than I'd listen and be quite interested. Both Madsen and Floyd are relatively talented but neither can be considered top prospects at this point anymore, imo. I don't want Rowand, and combine that with the fact that Philly's farm system is pretty bare. Gio is really the only prospect I'm interested in. -
Williams working on extension for Buehrle/Garcia

QUOTE(kevo880 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) Not if he has another season like last season. I'd be suprised by that considering his track record. I wouldn't give an extension to 86 mph Freddy though. -

Walt Harris out at Stanford after two years. -
We would have won it all this year had we had Aaron's leadership. Oh, and I'm sure Philly considers Hamels untouchable.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 11:37 PM) BTW, i can't stand when people b**** about the BCS and talk about how the computers are 'stupid' and all that garbage. Only 1/3 of the formula is computers, and the mich/fla rankings in those will be a wash basically. 2/3 is humans. Ultimately, they'll decide who plays OSU. If you don't like the BCS, at least put the blame where it should be, and that's with the humans. There's too many ignorant people running around talking about how college football is decided by computers, and that's just wrong. Exactly. If UF jumps Michigan in the polls, they'll be in. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) Ugh... The dream is over. Marquette played without a whole lot of energy tonight. I would characterize just one player on MU having a good game, and that was the backup PG, so that's obviously not a great sign. Shooting was horrendous. 36% from the field, 20% from beyond the ark (4-of-20, :puke), and they only got to the line 14 times (made eight -- under 60%). James only played 27 minutes and wasn't in foul trouble. It was wierd; during the second half, Crean, for whatever reason, played him sparingly (or so it seemed). There's no way in hell this team should've kept up with Marquette. MU was clearly more athletic, yet decided it was okay to settle for contested threes and 15 footers, rather than taking it all the way to the hoop. Crean said it perfectly -- we've dodged some bullets this year, against Idaho State and at Valpo. We didn't dodge that bullet tonight. Maybe this is a good wake-up call. This team is good. But talent alone isn't going to get them anywhere. They can survive nights when they shoot 30% from the field, but when they bring that to the defensive end, they're in BIG trouble. It's funny... box score says NDState turned the ball over 25 times. That's the 'quietest' 25 turnover night I've ever seen. Didn't ND State Beat Wisconsin last year? -
According to rotoworld, the Red Sox want Adam Miller, Trevor Crowe, and Fausto Carmona for Manny.

QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) Why should Michigan get to play OSU again? They already lost. I think it would hurt the rivalry if OSU and UM play again. Bring someone else on, I would of liked to play USC though. This isn't the salvation army. If you think Florida has a better resume, fine. I am a Michigan fan, but I have no problem with UF going. But don't say they deserve to go because you don't want to see a rematch.
