QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) New DePaul uniforms...I like the retro look, and the patch in honor of Coach Ray is done well... Are they wearing those the entire season, or just for a couple games? They are awful. -
The pitching prospect I would most want is Hurley. It would take a lot to get Young and a pitching prospect though.

Duh: Buehrle, Dye, Iguchi will be back

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) nor does it mean Hermanson won't be back. It's unlikely that he won't be back, but if other teams are unwilling to take a risk on his back, the Sox will gladly swoop in to offer him a 1/year $500K incentive laden deal. It would have been insane to pick up Hermanson's option. -
I'd say the chances are few and far between that Frank stays healthy two years in a row.

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:40 PM) ESPN is saying Bochey is now the Giants manager, so the Padres have an opening. Why the hell would he take that awful job? Was there problems with him and towers? The Padres job now becomes the best job out there. Padres have money to spend, I think they land Zito this offseason.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) It also didn't help that BMac's usage out of the pen was ungodly inconsistent last year. Haeger I think is almost certainly going to follow the BMac "To the pen" path this year if he's not traded, which is probably the right thing to do with him (MMac, Thornton, Haeger, Jenks...hit that sh*t) I would like to see Haeger in the pen. Even if he isn't that great, he could eat up a ton of innings.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) I really hope the B Mac bullpen experience last year teaches us not to follow the same path with Lance in 2007. The problem is there is no room without injury. He could be a good pen arm if we need someone. Guys start their careers in the pen all the time, it just didn't work out for BMAC. Didnt help that our manager failed to put BMAC in the rotation when he deserved to be there.

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?
WhiteSoxfan1986 replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) The guy I want is Mike Pelfrey. Thats an arm to hang our hats on. Give me arm's over a LF because I think our very own Ryan Sweeney is just the prospect Milledge is (or very very close to it) with far less hype (ie a better value). We don't have anyone like Pelfrey in our system. It helps the back end of the pen and makes him the new Bmac (our 6th starter if any of our 5 goes down). The only difference is this is a guy who has actually had success pitching out of the pen. The problem is he wants to start and I don't know how happy he'd be coming to Chicago and than pitching out of the pen. If we could swing a Pelfrey/Heilman for Tracey or Haeger/Garcia I'd be freaking exstatic. I would love to get pelfrey somehow(he can be traded, since he's pitched in the bigs already, so he doesn't have to wait a year after he signed). Would you rather have Pelfrey of Humber? I wouldn't mind either, but I'll go with Pelfrey, especially since Humber was pulled from the AFL with shoulder soreness, although that shouldn't be a big deal. The Mets have a lot to offer, that's for sure. -
This is off topic, but how exactly does the minor league phase of the rule V draft work?
-
There was talk of the Mets going after Garcia during the season. I would love to have Heilman as a setup guy, the problem is he wants to start. Milledge would be a nice speed guy, and could be a centerfielder if BA were dealt (doubt that happens). Mets wouldn't do milledge+Heilman for Freddy, but a deal centered around Heilman wouldn't be bad.

ESPN Classic could be a great channel, unfortunately all they ever show is boxing. Well thats what it seems like. I could think of a thousand great baseball games they could be showing this time of year. They show the NBA once in a while, but rarely baseball. Just had to rant about that.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 08:34 AM) My thought exactly. It's good pub for the average fan, and I'm glad we'll have unimpeded MLB through 2011, but nothing got done here at all. But I'm sure the next commish, Andy MacPhail, will get this stuff done (and I'm not kidding about who the new commish will be, just watch. The Cub resignation is all part of that plan). And even with all that said, I am interested to see what exactly turns out to be done with comp picks for lost FA's. Not sure why they'd mess with that, as it's part of the increase in competitive balance, but hey, baseball isn't exactly the smartest group of people. Compensation picks will stay, but they will be revised somewhat.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) Steve Howe was ejected from a world series game for having tar on his glove, then suspended for two more games. I was pissed that La Russa didn't do something in that inning. He had to know that Rogers would wash it off between innings (although the stain was still visible). He'll probably start putting it on his glove. Between this and Monroe's over-the-top reaction to hitting a dinger, one can only hope that Karma makes an appearance in this series. Don't forget about Jay Howell in 1988. He had tar on the glove and was suspended for the rest of the ALCS. I'm suprised Tony didn't put up more of a fuss.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) Kenny Rodgers shall be known as poopy hand for the amount of pine tar that was on his hand. Kenny Rodgers called it dirt. A clump of dirt isnt yellow and doesnt glisten under the lights of the night. And if it was dirt he would have noticed and wiped it on his pants or something. I'm sure if this goes six games Tony will make sure to umps check him out.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) Les Miles is such a bad coach, and that will be exposed as time goes on. His awful coaching was a big reason why LSU lost 2 games, and that's a shame, because to me, they are EASILY the 3rd best team I've seen, behind tOSU and Big Blue. Last week ended his chances to win, this week ended his chances to go to New York. At least we won and Nicholson got some time at QB. Now I'm just hoping we win out outside of at Iowa, go 8-4, and get that 3rd bowl bid the MAC now has. It doesn't help when he doesn't get the ball either. I know they were passing game was working and he was getting stuff, but he did break a few decent runs. I thought Novak should have left him in a little longer and try to get him at least 100 yards. Yea you are risking injury, but think about how getting him to NY would help recruiting. -

Official Arizona Fall League thread

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) Lance threw a lot of innings so it made sense to give him an entire off-season. Whisler on the other hand missed some time with injuries and finally appeared to get healthy so it will be interesting to see how he does in the fall league (he needs the innings). It made sense not to send Lance, but he was the guy I wanted to see. It's pretty rare for teams to send their top pitching prospects unless they had injuries or were holdouts (Hochevar). I know the Dodgers were gonna send Elbert but ended up pulling him. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) LOL at these camera shots of shocked Mets fans. I'm absolutely loving this. Just three quick outs, St. Louis. Good to see an all midwest series. I laughed when they showed the little girl crying in her dad's arms.
-
Owens doesn't have an at-bat for some reason. Day pitching well, Whisler doing alright, Russell and Malone getting rocked. Gonzalez and Cook struggling at the plate. Kind of sucks they didn't send Lance, I was looking forward to see how he would do. White Sox don't have any premium prospects in the league, Owens is probably the best one there.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Brian Anderson was one of the worst offensive players in all of baseball in one of the most forgiving hitters parks. I value defense just as much as the next, but Pierre would be an upgrade over Anderson as a whole in my opinion, especially considering Ozzie Guillen would rather place Thome or Konerko in center than Anderson it seems. And you're supposed to judge players based on their rookie season. Throw out April and May and BA hits .280-.290.

I have heard this stuff with Macha before. When they lost to Boston in 03, Terrence Long said that Macha came around and shook everybodys hand after the game. Everyone except Long that is, and he was traded after the season. I expect Ron Washington to get the job.

Good hire for the cubs. They need a hardass in there after the Baker debacle.

Selig pondering postseason changes
WhiteSoxfan1986 replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 12:30 AM) I completely agree. I actually love the playoff system as it is, no need to add more teams. A 162 game season with more than 4 teams getting in the playoffs would get a bit ridiculous imo. I would honestly be real pissed off if more spots were added to the playoffs. That's my favorite thing about baseball, its an accomplisment to make the playoffs, and every team that makes it has a decent chance of winning it all. You can't say that about basketball, where there are teams under .500 in the playoffs every year. If I were stern I would cut the # of teams in the playoffs in half, but that will never happen.
