QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) Did it say how often? If this were the hangup, I imagine that LaRoche would've filed a complaint through the player's union, rather than retire. Just saying it was a guy calling in to ESPN. Don't know who it was or anything. Just another story. We'll see.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) I'm sure that would have been reported in one of the 1,000 stories about Drake last year ??? Maybe. Just reporting what I heard.

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) Um, why. Laroche is an employee, he looks unprofessional out of all this, not the Sox. I just heard some guy call in to ESPN. He said it was written into the contract LaRoche signed to bring his kid to the clubhouse. Not sure how this guy knows that. Let's see what other stories come out.

QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 06:07 PM) With LaRoche out of the picture, does Davidson have a legit shot at making the roster after stinking it up in AAA the past two seasons? If so, on a very short leash.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) I'm probably in the minority here but I kind of hope he doesn't retire. I think he is a good bounce back candidate and a 2014-esque version of Adam LaRoche makes the middle of our lineup very dangerous. Sure having the extra money would be nice but on March 15 with opening day just 3 weeks away there really isn't a whole lot out there to spend it on. But if his head isn't into playing anymore or he has a nagging back injury or he's going to be on the DL we don't need that kind of a problem. Let him walk.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 11, 2016 -> 03:40 PM) I know it means nothing but I think it means something to have success in spring....if that makes any sense. Very few teams can flip the switch so to speak. It makes a whole lot of sense to me. This is exactly what we were wanting the ST to look like. Just keep it up!

Spring training 3/8: brewers vs White Sox 2:05 start
Saufley replied to Whisox05's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 02:54 PM) I know it's spring training and all this means nothing, but this is damn fun. Oh, I think it means something. A lot better than the alternative. Now we need to see it continue throughout the spring. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) That's why they're practicing running in practice games. May as well do it now. Last ST I complained about the Sox not bunting in some bunting situations and got laughed at. Hopefully the little things, that mean a lot in the regular season, will get some attention this spring.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) Thanks ! Watching it now. Hector Santiago and Geovanny Soto the battery for the Angels, Shuck leading off ex Angel , got on via SS error , caught stealing . Lawrie K. Abreu single to right. Frazier line out to SS. Is Vince Coleman still around helping with the base running?

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 05:04 PM) Goodbye, Sir. Aging and not magically getting any healthier imo. Hope it's not an oblique injury. They seem to take a while to heal.

Sox Cactus League opener tomorrow
Saufley replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) I am really hoping Latos and Johnson outshine Danks and the sox are forced to move him to the bullpen or release him The Sox could keep him around to pitch batting practice, to earn his $15-16 mil salary. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 20m20 minutes ago Adam Eaton was very apologetic about Oscars tweet last night: "I feel terrible. I truly do...It was a tweet to talk about equality..." (1/2) Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 20m20 minutes ago Adam Eaton: "I apologize to anybody who was offended. I am not by any stretch of the imagination trying to downplay racism in this country." No reason to apologize.

Ian Desmond Signs 1 Year 8M Deal with Rangers
Saufley replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChicagoHeel @ Feb 27, 2016 -> 12:51 AM) @mibeltrodriguez Developing: The #WhiteSox are back on SS Ian Desmond #MLB #Sox Wtf!? This means he should be signing with some other team soon. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) Ventura...absolutely You're right. I forgot all about him. If Kenny needs a sacrificial lamb he'll do.

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 04:22 PM) When the Sox acquired Lawrie and then Frazier it had us fans jumping on the bus ready for a ride down State street where all these all stars where waiting to be picked up. That is what had us come along for the ride and be excited. Then they just kept passing up guys one by one and then stopping without opening the doors and before you realize what was going on we were driving in Englewood picking up old pimps. I dont know what I am trying to say, but damn. Many of us know what you are saying and mean and many of us felt the same.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) It's still hard to believe they are willing to risk jobs by going with Avi and LaRoche as starters Are they really risking their jobs? You know this organization.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 02:17 AM) The main thing is that OPS+ number doesn't account for defense, and since there's now such a huge swing towards WAR evaluation, the fact that he's around a 0 means even a pretty decent level of offensive improvement (which isn't guaranteed) leaves him at a 0.75-1.50 number. As far as LaRoche goes, the effort to dump him on the Pirates for pennies on the dollar and his current status is solely about budgets and soft payroll ceilings. It certainly seems LaRoche is going to be given the opportunity to hit for at least 2-3 months, and maybe even be the full-time DH, whether the fans like it or not. So perhaps not focusing on LaRoche is more about that frustration (and the lack of desire to argue about it) and the fact that fans have come up with the concept of combining Avi and LaRoche into one DH and removing him from the outfield altogether, where he does the most damage to his WAR and team defense/DRS. So it's not anything to do with favoring LaRoche, certainly, but more to do with the fact that it was EASY to imagine a 2-3-4 WAR improvement in one fell swoop with the addition of a Justin Upton/Cespedes/Gordon. Because DH doesn't lend itself to those dramatic swings because of the point correction for being only a hitter, the positive correction for improving DH with a platoon in the world of WAR means only a 1 game correction, rather than the 2-4 many were hoping/expecting with a replacement for Garcia. And another part of it's probably Garcia's age, the fact that he was getting booed at SoxFest, fans genuinely seem to like him and maybe they feel a change of scenery trade with a non-contending team would be best. And we know that LaRoche isn't going anywhere until he re-establishes himself as an offensive presence, which would of course make it more unlikely that we would trade him with his contract expiring this year (unless we're out of the race again). I would like to see LaRoche in the lineup almost everyday during ST. This guy has so much to prove this year. I can't imagine the Sox are going to let him skate through ST.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:51 AM) if they, the sox wants to good start, they really better be getting their players a lot of batting and playing time this spring. This is a good point. Was it was RH or RV that I saw on TV recently saying that the starting unit was going to get more playing time together? The last few weeks of ST they all need to be out there together, as opposed to last year when they weren't.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 10:41 PM) I've wanted Rollins since I saw what the SS market looked like. Now the only question is whether you let him win it in ST or find a way to have him wait in the wings if/until a youngster fails there. It's easy. I say let them all play and may the best man win the job in ST. The best qualified should SS should be our opening day starter.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:52 PM) Rick had what I thought were some interesting comments today in Glendale. Among the sampling: 'The Sox drew 1.755 million fans last year, ranking 26th among the 30 teams. It was a slight increase from 1.6 million in 2014 but not enough to make a real difference. "You know what's probably a bigger differentiation between clubs right now than local attendance is the local TV contract," Hahn said. "You've heard it for years on the other side of town, and they're right. That's probably the biggest disparity in club revenues, as opposed to what attendance used to represent." "For us, the more people who show up, great. It creates a better environment, it potentially allows us more resources, but we also are fully aware of the fact we haven't put a product out there that people have wanted to come and invest their time and money in. We're hoping this year to be a little bit different. We're going to wind up in the same (payroll) area, so it hasn't had a negative impact from that standpoint." Rick is showing some tact with the attendance comments and he's right in my opinion. Sox fans won't pay to see bad baseball, period. Also the talk about TV deals is also correct in my opinion. If the Sox want to get anything close to a good new TV deal in 2019, they better start winning or they'll be blown away by what the Cubs are going to get when they start their own network. Mark This may expand that "three year window", to be competitive. I can't imagine the Sox wanting to do a tear down and rebuild before a new TV deal is signed. In the next few years we need some of these young kids to take a big step forward.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 08:07 AM) It looks like Avi will be patrolling RF this year. He had better improve his play. We only have 2 years left of that "3 year window".

QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 08:26 PM) I'm in the same boat. After the Frazier trade I started getting interested in baseball/chisox again for the first time in over 4 years or so (even brought me back to these boards ). I was/still am expecting some more upgrades to fix the glaring hole(s). Obviously the OF hole is a must. SS/DH would be nice too, but I don't think they as big as problems as that OF spot. There are so many options out there that it is frustrating for me. Fowler, Jackson, various trade routes, all of the other OF's we have seen go before us. Desmond sitting out there. I will say, regardless of anything, it has been a great offseason tho for the Chisox. Frazier trade was fantastic, Latos signing was great, Lawrie trade was solid. I will give them the benefit of the doubt for a few more weeks to finish the masterpiece off . At this point, it does look like a good offseason. As many of us feel, we just don't want to see them stop short of making this team even stronger.
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 08:06 PM) It may have nothing at all to do with money. It seems to have a lot to do with Hahn believing that Fowler isn't worth giving up a draft pick. I know that would drive the droves of "Sox are cheap" idiots crazy. Sox don't sign a free agent and it having nothing to do with money. If the Sox don't sign Fowler or Jackson I don't care. After the trade for Frazier I was expecting bigger things to happen. My mistake. As Fathom said maybe our targeted OF will come via the trade route. Or maybe we are done making moves. If so, we'll have more to b**** about.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) well, Hahn did blow a lot of money last offseason on guys that ended up being garbage....so it's an organizational fault. Yes it is and we know what happens to those in the organization who are loyal.
