  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 07:33 PM) There's been absolutely nothing linking the Sox to Fowler for a few weeks. This news isn't surprising. If they go into the season with this roster and fail again, Hahn better be held accountable. If JR doesn't give him the money to sign someone or anyone who's fault is it?
  2. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) Sox payroll rank in MLB over the last 10 years: 2015: 15th 2014: 20th 2013: 8th 2012: 11th 2011: 5th 2010: 7th 2009: 12th 2008: 5th 2007: 5th 2006: 4th So that's only 1 year in the bottom half which was a rebuilding year, 6 times in the top 10 and 4 times in the top 5. Not bad for a team that struggles with attendance as much as the Sox do. I will be upset if the Sox don't spend money for another upgrade or two before Opening Day, but this idea that the Sox are cheap is exaggerated. Yea, I guess my bad about the $$$. I should have just said we needed better judgement over the past years, in terms of player ability and potential. Maybe now with RH we have that.
  3. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) I don't think we're a terrible fan base. I think that we've been burned. Whether, before really my time of following, threatened to move team. To one of the most unappealing (to the eye) stadiums (functionality aside). To never really being a player in the FA market. Abreu at $68mm is our top signing ... I mean ... You take those things into consideration and I call us a fan base that gives back what is given to us. You expect me to buy 14 or 28 game plan?? I think not. a) I went on this morning to explore it -- and they are telling me the best seats available start at Section 147 on the 3B side. I know very well that there are a ton of seats from dugout to dugout. I've had season tickets before, they keep them blocked off for possible FULL season buyers. Plus, 6% or 12% discounts on prices when you buy 28 games? Screw that. You know where else I can get that discount? Scalping, when they offer the Ballpark Pass again and I just sneak down to the lower concourse ..., from company tickets for free, from discount codes for every game, etc. There is absolutely no incentive to buy partial or full season tickets to this team. Again, I've done it in the past for 3-4 seasons - and been burned money wise each year. Open up good seats for me, with incentive and I'd buy. But when your best incentive is opportunity to buy Playoff tix? First you have to make the playoffs ..... and then everybody knows, if doing well, the Sox will allow you to buy in July/August and still get that incentive. Dumb. Marketing folks are terrible. I'm a diehard, but I'm also smart. No reason to piss money on this product. I'll walk up and scalp or buy tix last minute via stubhub or craigslist. Rant over. Your rant makes a lot of sense! This ownership has had their one World Series championship. Now sell to some investment group that is not afraid to spend money to put a #1 caliber team on the field. I'm just tired of my team shopping at the $5 and under store. My rant.
  4. QUOTE (shysocks @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) I mean, you asked why people are mentioning Desmond in the OF, and he told you. That's all. and because his agent says something we should buy in? I don't think so. Desmond is NOT an OF. If we want an OF we can surely do better!!
  5. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) Desmond and his agent have been selling himself on his willingness to play the outfield. Whether he would actually be good at it is a different question. Your point in rebuttal to mine is???? At this point, Desmond and his agent should be selling himself on his willingness to play all positions.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 08:00 AM) I definitely think he would start the season as our SS, but if he can play a solid LF, he provides us with a significant amount of flexibility for our roster. Allows Saladino (or Anderson at some point) to slide into SS if Desmond is needed in the OF. If we go the Fowler route, we are riding & dying with Saladino at SS. There wouldn't be much of a backup plan. Why do I see some posts casually mentioning Desmond playing the outfield? Since 2009 he has played 920 games. In 2009 he played 1 game in RF and in 2010 he played 1 game in RF. If the Sox are going to sign him I would think they are looking at him playing SS.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 06:28 AM) If I'm giving up the pick, I want three years of control. Plus with Frazier, Lawrie, & Melky all scheduled to hit free agency after the 2017 season, not sure another player with two years of control is a great idea. Assuming we don't resign any of them, it's going be tough to replace all these guys in one offseason given how the market looks and our lack of positional talent. If the Sox sign someone for two years then that is the end of their three year window, that they gave themselves. If they don't make the playoffs with the 2016 & 2017 teams then maybe that would be the time to reconsider the future and how to rebuild.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) If you go with a one year remaining on a player you trade for, let's just hope the results are better than Shark because you're really emptying out the farm system then. I'm not sure Hahn wants to have all the pressure on himself and Ventura to win THIS year...because trading for a Reddick almost forces you to show results ASAP. Of course Hahn can't blame JR for not being able to acquire Gordon and Cespedes, but he absolutely has to do something with the season prospects partially resting on the shoulders of Saladino, Garcia, LaRoche and Erik Johnson. You can find other teams with similar issues, but they have either the current depth or the financial resources to recover from setbacks more easily. With Saladino, you could probably "survive" with Sanchez out there for a couple of months at SS, but it would be far from ideal. The other three, as things stand right now, there aren't logical replacements that are going to be ready the first half of the season. I hope RH is able to put something together soon. My excitement was high after the Lawrie and Frazier acquisitions. I know we have time before ST and the regular season begins but, I'd like to see some additions to make this team more competitive. I just hope the FO isn't thinking that Avi is the answer in RF.
  9. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) I received an e-mail a few minutes ago and confirmed it with the local newspaper that Walt Williams, who played for the Sox from 1967-1972 passed away Saturday at a hospital in Brownwood, Texas where he lived. He was 72. Walt was always generous with his time when I'd call him, always funny, laughing and full of life. So sorry to get this news. He was a tough player who always hustled and gave it his best. It's been a bad year for the White Sox family to be sure. Here is the link to my interview with Walt if you want to learn more about him and his career: http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/rwas/in...=11&id=3909 Mark He was truly a fan favorite. At least one of mine.
  10. QUOTE (HBaines03 @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 04:59 PM) I've heard a lot of outfield options for some time now and I read a story today where the Sox maybe exploring trading top prospects to get the power outfielder they want (pictured Carlos Gonzalez). I'm not interested in needing to give up top talent for an outfielder so I wanted to ask a question. Do the Sox look at Ryan Braun as an option? He has power, OBP, still some speed and can play RF. His contract is not the best as it is 20M next 3 seasons and a 5 yr commit before opt out. My thought is he might be able to be had for lower level talent. Milwaukee has an overload of OF's and he is talked about as a trade possibility. I'm not promoting this, just asking the question to see what others think. Thanks In what publication was the story?
  11. QUOTE (captain54 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) I'm not gonna keep going over this. You've already chosen to believe that I'm sitting around wringing my hands over what Cooper says.. I've stated about a million times already that I find it interesting, and at least worth noting.. and THATS IT!! You may not think, or most here is this little circle of Sox fandom may not think, that was Cooper says has any consequence… I know tons of Sox fans who are pretty incredulous over what Cooper had to say.. they just aren't on an internet board, not all of them anyway, expressing their concerns... It's tough almost impossible to have an intelligent interchange with someone when they've think they've got it all figured out.. when they don't So its been fun.. but later.. have a nice weekend.. Maybe the Sox should have Cooper handle all of the FA negotiations. The Sox need someone tough handling the negotiating with these guys! Let them know who's boss!
  12. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 04:17 PM) There are two big remaining holes on this roster: 1) One good defensive outfielder, for CF or RF, who is at least an average hitter. 2) A respectable OBP, power bat, preferably left handed to bat between Abreu and Frazier. If he hits RHP exceptionally well, it would be acceptable if he were right handed I continue to think that SS is not a hole, as Saladino is a good defender with good speed, and some modest offensive potential. That should be adequate, if the other 2 holes are filled. Frazier at 3RD, Lawrie at 2ND & Abreu at 1ST provide enough potential offense for the infield. Defense at SS is more important. Austin Jackson is my favorite remaining Free Agent, without the loss of a draft pick, for the outfield. That leaves the middle of the order left handed bat. I wish someone could provide hope that La Roche would not be a total black hole again, in that spot. However, I doubt that anyone can make a credible argument for that. Who is out there, who might fill that hole, in a trade, or free agent acquisition? The only open spot is DH, if they sign Jackson. I'd still like to have Ethier, if trading for him didn't cost much in talent. At his age, he would be fine as a DH, or a corner outfielder, with Melky moving to DH. Andre isn't of much use vs LHP, but he is a solid professional hitter vs RHP. 2016 Ethier salary is $18 mil, 2017 is $17.5 mil, 2018 is $17.5 with a $2.5 mil buyout.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) I would ask about the 3 year plan and what effect last year's disaster had on it? And if the moves division rivals made changes their focus at all? But respectfully. Soxfest is fun but it also is fluff. The people who ask questions or get up to the mic and blast the people on the stage really ruins it for everyone. It isn't the Jerry Springer Show. I would venture to guess Hahn is just as disappointed as anyone he didn't land one of these guys. But there is always someone who will say the Sox are cheap , and at the same time question why he has to buy a lower deck seat to sit in the lower deck. I, for one, will be looking for your feedback from some of those sessions. Thanks!
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) That's just it, I don't see it being an issue worth looking into or making a stink over. My point is that you want to discuss the issue without providing the info needed to have a proper discussion. To be honest, you're coming across as just spamming SoxTalk to get members to join the Facebook group where Cooper supposedly had these exchanges with some fans. Oh I wouldn't join that Facebook group. I did and then I got pi__ed off when a couple guys were making fun of the new Sox announcer. You know the grownup "nerdy" looking comments. I was going to just block the guy but I found out you couldn't block the Admin. of the site. Yea the Admin.! So I just left.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) ok lets think of this, this way. think of the big plan. at this point, what will be the sox alternative motive???? to appear to do something, why, soxfest and to make an appeal to the fans on "look we tried, it was too much, we do not have the budget for that kind of money". also look at where the salary is today.... at this moment. this is just like the sox plus a little more coy about doing this than the teams of the 90.s.... i am waiting for the org to throw out a couple of reclamation projects, one in the OF and the other as a SP. all this, at this time if nothing else is done, is smoke, to make it look as they were trying to do something. but i as a die-hard have to live with it, as a white sox fan. IMHO the Sox have to do something by SoxFest! I look for a busy week with at least a couple of transactions. I may be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time but. they still need to do something!!
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) I hope ther is some intelligent questioning. I will be there, but am a bit afraid the Hahn/Ventura session is going to turn into a top that Meathead contest. Last year was a love fest, so I guess the fans even though they will never admit it, were just as dumb as the Sox. Dick, If the opportunity presents itself, what will you be asking?
  17. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:47 PM) Fowler > Avi and Desmond is regarded as average to above average at short, which we don't know Saladino can be. Fowler + Desmond >>> Cespedes. That said, I'd prefer Austin Jackson and Desmond to save a pick. Still adds 20+ HR to the team and Jackson is a great CF. Wasn't there a rumor, or maybe just an article, about Jackson and the Cubs? If you had your choice where would you want to sign? Just asking.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) SoxFest will be entertaining to say the least I would expect a few things are done before SoxFest. I just can't believe they want to go there with this bad taste in everyone's mouth. I may be wrong but I hope the next week will be interesting and a few positive additions are made.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:09 PM) I am not melting down. Please don't put words in my mouth. It's just annoying how the Royals and Tigers upgraded and the Sox got absolutely no one. But that's how it always is so I'm not surprised. So, I shut down the computer about 9 last night and am just opening it up now. Disappointed yes but, I hope there is not more disappointment to come. Hopefully the acquisitions of both Lawrie and Frazier do not go to waste. OK White Sox what now??
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) Seth Gruen is on Kaplan's show all the time. He's a huge Cubs fan who fawns over every Cub player. Considering he worked for the Sun Times, it should have been embarrassing, but you have to love doom and gloom articles when rosters aren't even set. This is exactly why I stopped listening to WSCR. Every time I turned on that station they were crapping all over the Sox. Sox just need to get a few more players to strengthen this team and hopefully do well in 2016!
  21. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) "White Sox Likely Next to Undergo Full-Blown Fire Sale" via http://TeamStre.am by Bleacher Report http://teamstre.am/1VdCgTI Wow! I guess I better put my Frazier jersey up for sale on Ebay?
  22. QUOTE (Moe @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 07:53 AM) And Heyman just dropped the ol' #mysteryteam. No mention of the Sox at all. With all the stuff coming out wondering if Cespedes would be a clubhouse cancer?
  23. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 07:40 AM) This guy is all over the place Mibelt Rodriguez ‏@MibeltRodriguez 15m15 minutes ago Update: Yoenis Céspedes likely to sign a 3 years deal with the #Mets, which will have an Opt-out. A decision is expected before Sunday. and 48 hours ago his decision was going to be made in 24- 48 hours. I'm tired of talking about Cespedes!!
  24. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 07:41 PM) http://www.businessinsider.com/yoenis-cesp...-to-plan-2016-1 Awful lot of stuff written about the uncertainty in signing Cespedes long term. Seems more and more every day. Is there something to the " red flags " that have been written about? The smoking between innings doesn't bother me but the other stuff does to some extent. Now that all the bad stuff is coming out we're sure to sign him!
