  1. Greatly enjoyed the Robert Downey Jr./Gwyneth Paltrow. This is the first time I've watched more than 15 minutes of any award show. I think I've spent more time replaying Slash and Duff drunk at the AMA's on Youtube than on actual award shows. Always a first for everything.
  2. I heard about this. Towards the beginning of June when it was dawning on management that this was going to be one of those days (seasons), Walker began crafting a last resort plan- not to save the season, but to save JOBS (his, Kenny's, Adam's, and so on). After many nights with a bottle of Jack and inexplicable bouts of laughter that came from no where, the best he could do was the "trick the opposition into thinking that Adam Dunn is Chris Sale". Realistically, 2012 season was the earliest we would see this plan in effect. Walker, unfortunately, did not make it. Another problem is that MLB pitchers were treated to a full year of watching Adam Dunn get straight up beaten by every pitch thrown at him, so the opposition would probably be more careful/throw closer to 100% if they thought it was Chris instead of Adam. We all remember those times that the catcher was already in the act of throwing the ball back to the pitcher before Adam swung. No one really talked about it because it was unpleasant to think about/hearken back to. Sometimes umpires pretended that he was just taking a practice cut before the next pitch. Everyone in the park knew better, no one (not even opposing battery) said anything about it. Walker's pllan straight up backfired.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) Some pretty sweet jerseys they've got there- no doubt to commemorate year three of the AA era.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) That changeup at the 50 second mark is fooling no one.
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) That bias is rampant in ESPN coverage too. There it is usually the Yankees or Boston. But, we get the first ESPN Sunday night game as we face the Rangers. A girl I grew up with just got a job at ESPN. I was going to post something on her wall about not forgetting about the midwest/west but decided against it since I could see her actually getting fired for it.
  6. 2014. It wouldn't shock me if it was earlier though. Stupider things have happened over the years. Like this:
  7. Hearing the story of Walker and Guillen's concern about Dunn last spring has me feeling less certain about what shows up this year. Prior to hearing that story, I was of the opinion that he would return to normal.
  8. Dock Ellis is unimpressed. I don't blame him. Pitching to this is hard enough. No-hitting it is divine.
  9. Thin crust from places like Giordano's Lou Malnati's etc. is typically eaten cold unless it's too cold- I'll throw it in the microwave for under 10 seconds if that's the case. If it's from Pizza Hut, Costco, Sarpino's etc. it will get 15-20 seconds in the microwave. Stuffed Pizza is usually heated until it's lukewarm. If it's overheated the cheese starts to melt out of the sides and that's not good. The texture of the cheese becomes rubbery. I would rather eat it cold than overheated. If for some reason there is leftovers from a frozen pizza, I won't eat it.
  10. Sweets/Restaurants/Alcohol. I think for the most part drinking has lost it's luster for me and it was something I've stopped despite Lent since the very beginning of January, but it sounds more impressive if it looks like I gave up three things. I want to try no meat for an extended period of time, but in a Polish household, meat is pretty much a staple of every meal ever (aside from Christmas Eve). I tried it once and it was laughably unsuccessful despite me being sincere about it. Essentially it was a day or so of having my motives questioned and mocked, followed by (surprise) my favorite meat dish making an improbable appearance at dinner the next day.
  11. For some reason Manny strikes me as content with being on an MLB roster and getting a check. He would probably pitch if they asked him to. Dye wouldn't even give up his glove. "That's pride f***ing with you. f*** pride" "We're baaack." Ramirez, as he and Damon, former Red Sox teammates, took their seats. "Let's do this — you play 100 and I'll play 62." Ramirez, to Damon when they were asked about playing all 162 games. Days later Ramirez retired, failing to play 62. "Thank you Johnny, they don't know." Ramirez to Damon, after Damon said he's "always been a great teammate, a guy who knows how to win." Ramirez abruptly retired days later. http://www.tampabay.com/sports/baseball/ra...amon-as/1148987
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 01:20 AM) I don't think it was THAT chilling or depressing, any more than INTO THE WILD or similar "survival" movies. I don't think I've ever once thought Into the Wild was chilling or depressing. Almost completely the opposite. Easily in my top 5 of all time.
  13. Friend just texted me that Gun N Roses is playing the House of Blues tomorrow. I went online, and sure enough. $250 tickets. They were really good when I saw them at Allstate last year, but I don't know if they were $250 ticket good.
  14. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) I have not a single bad feeling toward Greg Walker. He was our hitting coach when we won the World Series. I think that he might have helped guys like Konerko, Dye, Crede. Recently for whatever reason it wasn't working with our current team. I believe that he tried his hardest. A change of hitting coach is good for us. Change is probably good for Walker as well... The fact that the Braves took Walker quickly after we released him tells me that he is probably respected as a hitting coach by other organizations. No really bad feelings towards him either- mainly because you're playing baseball at the pro level. You should take it upon yourself to study film and identify the culprit behind all those golden sombreros or dribblers that are fielded and thrown to first while the crack of the bat is still ringing in the air. In my opinion, a hitting coach is like a someone who watches a French movie with a fluent French speaker, and reads them the English subtitles as they appear on the bottom of the screen anyway.
  15. I tried crafting a snarky response about just holding off on celebrating until Jan/Feb and not having to worry about excluding him since he's way ahead of everyone, but decided that it was insensitive and was making light of a serious matter.
  16. I was so sure the Rangers would have O'Doul's both times they won the ALCS, but it was Ginger Ale. Someone on the O'Doul's sales staff is bad at their job.
  17. Bookmarked for when the Braves re-write MLB's offensive records this year.
  18. Princess Diana- We drove near that tunnel Adam Sandler('s career)- Watched Little Nicky at the Charlestowne Mall Classic Cinemas. Here is where his career met a violent end. Every time I've been back, there is a really heavy sort of presence in the air. It gets creepier- that year, stores began leaving the mall without any replacements coming in. 90% of the mall is vacant. Not exaggerating.
  19. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 04:58 PM) Since I didn't have the players #'s memorized I had no idea who was on the mound. How is the retired life treating you, Lou?
  20. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 04:44 PM) Just wondering. Why not tear it all down and rebuild it. They would have about 18 months to complete it. Just work around the clock for 18 months. Then they could make it much better and then not worry about it again for a long time. There is no arguing that it's a s***hole, but it's a s***hole I love. I don't think starting over from scratch would fly with Cub fans. A few years ago, the Trib printed some suggestions for renovation. I think most of the ideas were along the lines of "get rid of the concrete chunks that fall on people". The one that caught my eye was the retractable video screen- have it out for night games, keep it concealed for day games. If not, why not buy out or partner up with a rooftop owner to build a video screen? Purists get to keep the park untouched, and the people like like loud noises and colorful pictures get their wish as well. Anyone suggesting a Schaumburg or Arlington Heights move has either never been within 100 miles of Chicago, or is just trying to get a rise out of people.
  21. White Sox Phillies Bulls Honorable Mention: TB Rays QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 05:30 PM) Not so much the Steelers right now because of the rapist.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 08:01 AM) The worst is the constant comparisons to Tebow. I haven't got swept up in the "Linsanity" but I do like the kid but I'm tired of the overdone coverage at this point as well. Last night someone called into Les Grobsteins show and busted out the Michael Jordan comparison. It wasn't even one of the regular insomniac drunks that call in, this one sounded sober. Jeremy Lin's mother would have slapped that guy in the face if she heard that.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 05:46 PM) Blake isn't doing the dunk contest anyways. Because he knows. Lin would dunk over Blake Griffin while he's dunking over a Kia. It would be made into a commercial for Nissan.
  24. Its the dunk contest that everyone should worry about. If I'm Blake Griffin, I start getting friendly with Tanya Harding.
