  1. I got to see so much baseball on both sides of town and Milwaukee last year because of Stubhub. Actually- Cub games were generally cheaper than Sox games. I recall getting most of the Cub seats for as little as $2, but no more than $5 (with convenience fee tacked on afterwards)- the exception being when the Phillies came $30ish IIRC). Sox tickets seemed to hover around $8-$10 right until the end of the year. I'm probably going to take 10 of the 27 games I have for Sox this year and list them. I'm skeptical they'll sell because I only have one seat.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) The crowd reaction was very loud & positive when he was announced. I was there, so I didn't get to hear his interview with Kustok. Saw it on tv, but I toonever heard the interview. For some reason, I experience tunnel vision and become deaf/mute (temporarily) whenever I see her. It looked like an awesome interview. Compelling, and rich.
  3. Swing a trade to the Marlins for Rowand and Pierre, and you are pretty much compiling White Sox: Greatest Hits (2005-2011).
  4. Tyler Flowers need only show a glimpse of promise in order for AJ to suddenly become the face of what's wrong with the White Sox to a sizely group of people. I'd vote for Peavy, but that would be like taking layups in HORSE. Short of becoming a Cy Young candidate for the remainder of his time on the Sox, I don't think he can do anything to make some people forget his time on the Sox until this point.
  5. JR's statement denying Guillen quit on the team was really just a dressed up confirmation of exactly the opposite that he probably hopes tricks Guillen into STFU.
  6. Thought it was a great speech. One thing I was a bit confused by was praising the state of the auto industry and then being pretty adamant about no more bailouts. Also kind of surprised at what I thought was an underwhelming reaction to his education tirade.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) Um, OK? Most of those guys either got hurt or traded. And Carmona doesn't even count, as that's not his real name. Have Verlander, Cabrera or Fielder spent any time on the DL? I keep thinking Verlander's arm is set to fall off, but then he just goes out and throws 500 innings with a few no-hitters sprinkled in for good measure.
  8. I had a bad feeling about Detroit entering the Prince Fielder bidding.
  9. Jake Peavy- Giver of the troof As for fluff pieces, could be worse... Hardball Talk has been going at it full speed ahead since before the last pitch of the season was thrown.
  10. I'm clueless as to what I'd expect from Beckham or Peavy, but of the four guys he brought up at the beginning, Dunn is the one I expect to see most turn it around. It was either mental (a combination of the switch to DH, playing for a competitive team, and the Ozzie/Kenny clown show), or, in a year that the NL MVP asterisked himself, you have to at least entertain a more sinister possibility. I lean toward the former- purely because of the nonexistent expectations for this team, and the managerial change. Remember this guy? He was pretty spot on in what he wrote; with the exception being that he had Dunn actually hitting (meaningless) HR's. As for Morel, Hawk of all people won't say anything negative about the incumbent third baseman who hit eleventy HR's in the last month of a lost season, but I'm pretty skeptical about how that carries over into 2012. Who knows, maybe the diminished expectations will help here similarly to how I think they'll help Dunn.
  11. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) You said no pizza, but if I was laid up and someone sent me frozen Lou Malnati's pies I think it would be the best gift ever. This, except replace Malnati's with Giordano's.

  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 09:12 AM) http://www.buzzfeed.com/mattcherette/beavi...ad-in-real-life That's actually terrifying. Glad I'll probably never run into that on a street anywhere.
  14. I'm not much of a death pool person, but it wasn't too hard to see this coming, even without the cancer. To fall from grace as swiftly as he did, have the only way of life he knew for decades being taken away from him, along with the scrutiny that followed, those are ripe conditions for an 85 year old to give up. It sucks that the PSU scandal will be part of his obituary, but such is life.
  15. This isn't about Ozzie and Jake, it's just an extension of Ozzie v. Kenny. I fully expect Adam Dunn and maybe even Alex Rios (Two other Kenny guys that failed pretty miserably) to be dragged into this no later than the first time the Cubs go down to Miami (or Miami comes to Wrigley, whichever comes first). It's almost as if Ozzie never left, really. In a year that looks as promising as a Kardashian marriage, I'm not going to get too upset about that. Ozzie liked to talk about how great he was at taking the pressure off the team by drawing attention to his asshat behavior, maybe he's doing the Sox a favor here... A White Sox/Marlins World Series would be broadcast on Lifetime, not Fox.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) Those clips of the congressmen just reminded how f***ed up it is that we have people creating laws where they have absolutely no idea what they are legislating for/against. You're right, they don't. Good thing whoever has their pockets knows precisely what they are legislating for/against. The fact that Megaupload was taken down, and arrests were made outside of US borders because of it ought to call light to the redundancy of SOPA/PIPA. It won't, though, and these two bills will be repackaged, given an innocuous-sounding name (along the lines of Help Starving Infants, or Save Kittens and Puppies from Nukes in Iran- so as to vilify anyone who has the gall to oppose and to garner support from those who don't bother looking into the content of the bills), and reintroduced- probably buried under a pile of bills that get more attention. My biggest fear: SOPA/PIPA weren't shelved because of a cutesy cartoon that oatmeal.com made (I've never even heard of oatmeal.com before this past week), or because eleventy billion people "liked" an anti-SOPA/PIPA page that someone created on Facebook, or because of an online petition. They were shelved because while MPAA and RIAA have the pockets of our fine politicians, so do Google, and others who saw just enough in these proposed bills that worked against their interests that they brought attention to it themselves. My fear is that when these bills are re-packaged, just enough will be stricken from the originals that perhaps Google (and other big names that were against it) won't find anything contrary to it's own interests, and therefore won't be so vocal about next time around. One thing is an absolute given, IMO. These bills will eventually pass- whether that be as multiple smaller bills spread out over a longer period of time, or whether they be disguised as something innocent like I mentioned earlier. $$$ talks.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) People that live in Alaska must be on drugs. Literally just the other day I started kicking around the idea of moving to Anchorage. Not sure if this random idea that popped into my head has legs, but it's there floating around in my head.
  18. jperrotto John Perrotto If the #Indians trade Robert Hernandez Heredia to the #Marlins for Juan Carlos Oviedo, it will one player to be named later for another one.
  19. I always go through the website of the company and pay with one of my checking accounts (debit cards). If it's a larger purchase ($500-$600+) or school tuition, I'll use a credit card, and I'm also more likely to take care of it in person.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) Sherlock Holmes was a bit nebulous in its villain this time, Mark Strong was such a huge and malevolent presence in the last one, and not nearly as much Rachel McAdams or "romance" as the first picture in the series. The other "Shirley" was the British actor from V for Vendetta, right? He seemed very familiar, for some reason. Still nothing close to GHOST PROTOCOL in recent months in the action genre. Agreed about the villain. The movie around it made it easy to look past that. As for the romance (or lack thereof), I think that it was there, just not as obvious. You could feel how the loss affected him and kind of made chasing Moriarty personal- at least that's the way I saw it. Also thought the brother was a strong supporting actor. Stephen Fry ought to find his way into more movies.
