  1. I'm questioning TLR's understanding of the english language if "set up" was the phrase he used to describe the White Sox. Would go hand in hand with his version of the alphabet, actually. I'll read into that as he doesn't like what is currently in place at the front office. Maybe if things don't go so well for KW in the next year or two, he'd come in play the role of "baseball guy to watch the baseball guy" (and pick his own staff).
  2. Going to see Guns 'N Roses after work tonight at Allstate Arena. Ticket says the show starts at 9, so I'm hoping they hit the stage before midnight. Only half kidding about that. Either way, been hearing some pretty positive reviews about this tour overall. Hoping that this time around they focus a lot more of their "new" (3 years old) material, unlike the last two times they came through here.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) Even if they pull off the exact same deal as the one they just turned down, they'll be out a billion dollars in earnings for the first 1/2 of this season. I'd imagine. I'm just pissed off that it actually has gotten to the point where the season is unlikely, even though much of the speculation as far back as last season warned about just that.
  4. Good job, clowns. I don't care about hockey and football happens once a week. I hope whatever proposal you end up agreeing to is s*** compared to the one you just turned down.
  5. Not too long after La Russa retired, I thought I read something about Reinsdorf wanting him on the Sox in an advisory position of some sort. Was this just wishful thinking/fluff on Jerry's part?
  6. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 13, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) Anytime the Miami Marlins hit a home run, this feature will light up in Miami. It's like a Lisa Frank design on meth. I wonder if that was incorporated into the plans after Guillen was hired, or if it was already there, and it inspired them to hire Guillen. Whichever it is, there is no way the two aren't somehow related.
  7. Those don't look nearly as bad as I was expecting them to. Definitely could have been worse.
  8. That would also explain the questionable way he dealt with it after McQueary came to him, the continued access, scouting on behalf of Penn State, and so on. With the amount of time Paterno and Sandusky worked together, it's really hard to think otherwise.
  9. I'd love to see him back on the Sox in some capacity one day.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 06:00 PM) They could have just fired Sandusky and banned him from campus and tried to cover it up on their own though. Firing Sandusky would not have appeared abnormal. So why continue to allow the guy access to the University? It just doesn't add up. My speculation is that Sandusky was probably aware of something along the lines of rampant NCAA violations that were taking place under Paterno (and honestly, every other big name CF program ever), and firing him/barring him from access to the University would have brought that to light.
  11. Interesting thought I just heard a caller on Boers and Bernstein suggest is that McQueary could have been a victim of Sandusky himself as a youth. I guess McQueary was a decent football player growing up, and he could have run into Sandusky at a camp, or at his game (like the guy who just de-committed did). I think that would at least explain why he went to his dad and Paterno instead of the police with what he saw happening, and also why he wasn't fired. It's far-fetched, but you would have thought the same about the rest of the story if you didn't already know it was true.
  12. My post was meant to be read in green. I understand Philly has the money to throw around like this, but as somewhat of a fan of theirs, I think it's too bad they chose to do it by signing Papelbon. As for what Boston might do with that money... Report: Red Sox will pursue Ryan Madson and Heath Bell
  13. Papelbon was brilliant towards the end of the season. Boston is probably kicking itself in the ass for letting him go if that is all it took to retain him. At least they have Bobby Jenks for the bargain of $6 million to ease their pain next year.
  14. Wasn't there something close to being done with Madson? Thought I saw that both sides were close on an agreement the other day.
  15. The remaining 29 have forfeited the 2012 season because whats the point?
  16. If you have time you can check the totals Balta linked to against this list that I found of all the 2011 ejections (players and coaches included). http://umpireejections.blogspot.com/p/ejection-list.html
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 06:20 AM) Miffed by court ruling, Ventura weighs running for president or moving to Mexico Hopefully it ends up being the latter.
  18. Glad this happened. Surprised he decided to come back for another year. Hope he can produce for them.
  19. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 07:42 AM) Lets get real. Most of the people getting those types of houses in Scottsdale are rich kids inheriting crap Expanding on this a little bit, if I had that kind of money, Scottsdale would be pretty far down on my list of places to own a 16k sq ft. house. The east coast is much more appealing IMO.
  20. In the spirit of fairness, it should be pointed out that Derek Jeter didn't win it this year.
  21. I really don't think Epstein will have an open checkbook, especially in his first year. That is how Hendry put the Cubs into the situation they currently find themselves in. Saber guys usually work better on limited funds too (Tampa Bay is exhibit A). Interesting dynamics this offseason. You have two first baseman on the market and a shiny new hire by the Cubs. Instinct tells you to make an even bigger splash and get one of these once in a lifetime guys (Pujols/Fielder) away from another team in your very division nonetheless, but the right guy for the job may be the one who was already there this year (Pena). I think Epstein should put his focus and resources elsewhere on the roster. I also think you let Quade ride out his deal and then let him go next year.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 09:02 AM) I agree that there is no place for Castro on the 2012 Sox, but his tenure was a very bright light compared to the utter crap that has been the Sox backup catchers for as long as I can remember. truth
  23. I guess Ozzie's way of distinguishing bullpen pitchers (ala Jenks) had something to it...
