  1. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 09:20 AM) In 2009 the Rockies were clearly an underachieving team. They fired Clint Hurdle, promoted Jim Tracy, and it was like a switch was turned on. For every example of a team firing a manager during the season and then succeeding you can probably find 10 teams who started slow, stuck with their manager, and succeeded anyway. The reason the team is losing games is because it isn't hitting like it should. That falls on the shoulder's of the guys with the bats, not Ozzie Guillen.
  2. B&B Abbatacola or Goff (hosting evenings) Mully & Hanley I can't understand why people listen to Larry. He parrots Bernstein's thoughts as his own, and is downright creepy when he talks about women. At the same time, I'm a fan of Murph, and I realize most people aren't. I almost never turn to WMVP unless I can't watch the Bulls on tv. Recently, McNeil has become so awful that I've listened to Silvy and Waddle instead. What I got was a Chicago-flavored Mike&Mike. Yikes. Still better than listening to Mac wheeze about grilling, AC/DC, and the Blackhawks from 9-1. It's funny because his departure from WMVP (and Sox baseball) are what got me listening to B&B, now I would rather listen to silence instead of Mac. And then I remembered that I had this: http://www.am570radio.com/main.html That is a link to the live stream of the Jim Rome Show. I guess I forgot I had it during one of his famous 2 week vacations where a bunch of nobodies fill in. Saves me from the black hole 9-1 slot on Chicago radio. Phenomenal.
  3. Originally was supposed to have off, and technically we are closed, but I had to come in for a few hours.
  4. I never got the feeling that Hudson was anything special. I didn't think he was s*** either. Having said that, the Sox got Edwin Jackson for him in the midst of a pennant race. Yeah, it didn't work out last year, but you can also probably find a nice 4 or 5 starter on the cheap somewhere if you need one. Sox have done this before, as recently as Garcia part II last year. Just because Hudson is young and easy on the payroll doesn't change the fact that he is a back of the rotation pitcher, of which there are many that are cheap (though admittedly, not young, but why is that important if the performance is the same?).
  5. Last week was the first time I made it out there since '09. Not a big fan of the new out of town scoreboard.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 04:53 AM) Chris, 1) Have you ever been in a situation where you've had a player or someone in the front office or coaching staff upset with something you've said on air? I'm not talking something along the lines of Milton Bradley/Ryan Lefebvre or Stone/Caray versus the Cubs, but a situation where you feel you might have overstepped your bounds or access to inside information? You don't have to discuss specifics, just curious if this has happened before. 2) In the age of Twitter, would it be possibe for you to get in "hot water" for leaking information to a specific media source (say a beat writer or tv station/local or national) where you gave out that information in a way where it wasn't immediately and equally accessible to all outlets? For example, when I worked for a minor league baseball team (SAL League), the local beat writer (Augusta Chronicle, to be specific) was really pissed off with me when I gave an "exclusive" to the local TV station for that evening's news (I think it was something about our new stadium or an announcement about a future All-Star game being awarded to our city) and his story couldn't appear until the next morning (this was a year or two before the internet became more ubiquitous in baseball coverage)...my GM's rationale at that time was basically that we wanted to "curry the favor" of the television stations, because the newspaper was pretty much guaranteed to cover the team very prominently for all the home games. 3) Have you ever said something on air (let's say, you felt Peavy or Contreras should be given a chance to close, something pretty outlandish but not completely inconceiveable) about the team or where you felt in hindsight that you'd injected too much of your own opinion? For example, the other day, you mentioned that Pierre was likely to have a .330 or .340 OBP, that this was a little bit lower than ideal, and that his throwing arm was universally considered to be weak and that maybe it wasn't a good idea for him to steal as often if his failure rate stayed at over 50% (sorry for not paraphrasing exactly), etc. But have you ever said anything that was more strongly opinionated than these general comments, where a large majority of fans would disagree with you or the club or your opinion about something Ozzie or KW had done in their respective roles? 4) Do you feel you are treated differently here than at whitesoxinteractive.com, and, if so, how? 5) If you had the job of Brooks Boyer for one of the bottom 5 MLB teams (KC, Pirates, Marlins, A's, Indians) , what general ideas would you provide for increasing attendance? One more- Yesterday on White Sox weekly (I think) when that guy wanted to know why the Sox don't have Kotsay anymore and proceeded to argue that he would be a good replacement for Juan Pierre- -how tall was the building you were in? -did you jump?
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) We use green for sarcasm here. Although I kind of agree about Mac. Seems to mail it in a lot or not even show up. Dead serious. If you can make it past the voice he gives you probably the best sports talk in the city. I like B&B better, but that isn't really sports talk.
  8. Murph is back on the radio! Siked to hear him back on the air. Now if only ESPN1000 put him on 9-1 weekdays so I could have a legit alternative to the horrendous Mac show which unfortunately took Murph's place on the Score. Mac is the new Coppock.
  9. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) Wait, didn't we DFA Milledge or did I miss something? He cleared waivers, accepted assignment to AAA, and is back in all of his glory.
  10. Taking a quick gander outside, I can't see how tonight doesn't wind up being just an extra day to ruminate over Wednesday's 9th/10th innings.
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) That's a home run in a SILO
  12. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) Chris Sale is garbage now Not quite garbage, but it was stupid to think he was money in the bank coming into the season. He was far from a sure thing. So was Morel, but he has shown he can hit the baseball to go along with his D.
  13. From now on how about Matt Thornton sticks to the 8th inning. Let Sale do what he did last year. It was beyond me why they f***ed with that equation to begin with.
  14. I was just bored and flipping through channels on Friday- have the Foo Fighters really gotten that big that they warrant selling out Wembley? Is Monkey Wrench such a fantastic song that it justifies a drawn out 6 minute finale? They seem like such a "meh" band to me. I'll admit I haven't given them an extended listen, but thats only because what I've heard is so vanilla.
  15. Slide was just fine. Gardy and even Nishioka said as much. Swish said he felt terrible, not too much to complain about there.
  16. I was at the game and I had to ask a guy sitting in front of me what happened. After he told me, I was unimpressed, and resumed my waiting for a save by Chris Sale while drinking my beer that I purchased astutely before the end of the 7th. Don't hit Felipe Lopez, just don't use Matt Thornton in the 9th anymore.
  17. I was bummed to find out Humber is on the mound after I got my tickets. Gotta remember to check that kind of stuff next time... Still excited about a polish w/ grilled onions and mustard though.
  18. Just got tickets for Saturday. Anyone know of any drinky stores within walking distance of the Cell? I'm not paying a small fortune to purchase a buzz inside the park.
  19. Farmer: Let's see what he brings on 3-0. He brought ball 4. Guy gets me every time.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) The defense rested today without calling a single witness. Career Walks: 2,558 2,559
