Some girls, and seemingly moreso recently than I can ever remember are just uncontrollable. I blame reality tv. I love a feisty girl, but some of what you'll run into today is, well... I don't know the dynamics of Ozzie's family, but yeah, I will agree that it's evident from what has gone on the last few years that his kids feel entitled. That will happen more often than not when your father is a successful professional ball player/manager in a big town. I'm glad Ozzie said Oney was wrong on tweeting about Jenks, and I'd bet that it wasn't just him saying that to the media- he had to have mentioned it to his son as well. I'm not a fan of Oney's ass-twittery, but at a Score roast I just could care less what Oney says or does.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) Oney's girl did it so it's not a knock on Ozzie? Sure. Oney's "girl" is just following suit. Most people would never throw a brick through a store window and then come running out with a new TV, but when they see the rest of the city doing it suddenly there's no issue anymore. Same thing. Ozzie's lack of parental action has created a playground atmosphere for the Guillen family and all the little hangers-on that follow it. The punishment for Oney and his "girl" is probably to sit out of the kickball game at recess. No, its absolutley not a knock on Ozzie. At least not in this case. Are my parents responsible for who myself or my siblings are dating? You've never seen a girl thats a little too feisty act like a fool when she thinks her boyfriend- an extension of herself, is slighted? You think she punched someone because Ozzie sometimes can't shut up and she's dating one of his sons?
-
There comes a point in time where you're responsible for your own actions and can't have mommy and daddy to fall back on. Oney isn't 15 anymore. I don't think his actions should be grouped in on Ozzie. Ozzie didn't punch a heckler, hell, neither did Oney, actually. His girl did. All this tells me is his girl watches too much Jersey Shore. I'm glad Ozzie is here for at least two more years, hope he's here even longer.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) Ozzie option picked up for 2012! Good to hear. Hopefully some winning takes place before the end of 2012 and he stays even longer.

Awesome stuff. Astronomy has been my favorite thing to learn and read about since I can remember. I actually re-read Hawking's A Brief History of Time this past fall. Amazing things happen out there, probably more than the mind can comprehend at this point.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) I still think KW gives Eric Chavez a shot to be our starting third baseman. I think he's working out for the Dodgers. I don't see anything wrong with what Guillen said either. I dislike Teahen as a player and would like to see a competition. It would be ridiculous to annoint a dude who saw the bigs for a month the opening day starter. Nothing wrong with him working his way into more playing time. There is also Vizquel to consider if neither can be of help.

Most agreed, Cali. Albums that come out so late in the year I wouldn't factor into that year's list. It's too hard to get a full appreciation for what it really is. Sometimes it needs time to grow on you, and sometimes it can be in your disc changer for a couple of weeks only to be taken out and never listened to again. I was like this with GNR's Chinese Democracy in late 2008. Didn't know what to really think of it, but it ended up being a really solid release that probably missed out on all sorts of lists at least partly due to the late (and infinitely delayed) release date.

Yikes, I've heard of maybe 5 of those artists. Kanye turned me off forever with a combination of Graduation, the s*** opus after that, and his unwarranted ego, so I haven't given the new one a chance yet- if ever. Eminem seemed burned out during much of Encore, and the only new song of his I've heard is terrible (I'm not afraid), probably my least favorite song of his (I'd rather listen to skits off his first cd). Didn't any of the Wu-Tang guys release anything (or Wu-Tang in general for that matter)? Always some substance on a Ghostface album... I liked the Arcade Fire cd. Only other new cd I listened to this year was Slash's solo album, which was good but not great. Having only listened to two 2011 releases I didn't feel qualified to vote. I appreciate the list though. I would have never been able to guess more than 3 on it so it's a good outline of what to keep an eye out for.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) I dont even watch ESPN highlights anymore, I only watch for games. Same here. I'll probably watch baseball game highlights when the season begins, but I can't even remember the last time I watched Sportscenter even in passing. booyah. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) That first Swisher trade will forever be a black mark on Kenny's resume. Players have had down years, and the Sox made the playoffs despite him. Trading Swisher to NYY for lol and wtf is worse in my mind even if Swisher didn't bounce back like he did.

I hate it that when Atlanta finally started moving the ball at the end of the third (down 42-14) they just let the clock run out on the quarter without running another play. Yeah, they scored one or two plays into the fourth quarter, but you're getting beat by so much that even if you have a miracle fourth quarter you'll still probably lose. This goes for any team facing a significant deficit, especially when it happens at the half. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) I'm getting a disturbingly large amount of writing done on my Hawaii paper tonight, despite the NFL games on and the whiskey bottle next to me. I'm not sure what this means. If the bottle is open the writing will come easier and tends to be of higher quality. -

Wow, Flacco. They had the time and field position to take it easy at the end. Horrible posession. -
There was a gay dude at my last job who was into these signs. I was pretty surprised that he summed up some of the bigger pillars of my personality using this stuff shortly after he was hired and didn't know me yet. That's the extent of it for me though. I'll let gypsies, fortune tellers, and girls worry about this stuff.

Top Sox defensive plays of all-time
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to StatManDu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 13, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) The "specialness" of it was entirely brought on by himself. It was kind of like an outfielder getting a bad jump on a ball only to make up for it with a diving catch. It really should have been a routine play but he made it into something that looked better than it really was because he stumbled over himself. Maybe so, but 20 years from now when I think back to that play or any defensive play for that matter, I won't remember that an outfielder made a bad read on a ball initially or an infielder took a bad first step, I'll remember being wowed watching it take place. The Buehrle and Iguchi plays will always be the ones I recall first. Uribe made a play that happened to take place on the highest of stages- thats why that one will be special for me. Greatest Sox pickoff? Gotta be Buehrle against Sosa and the Rangers in 2007. The one hitter standing between Buehrle being the only pitcher to throw two perfect games was Chicago's beloved assclown, Sammy Sosa. Pick off and f*** you have the same number of letters. -
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 13, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) Is this "camp" limited to just our young guys, or could a guy who could use a lot of help on his infield defense, say, like a Mark Teahen, also participate? I'd imagine anyone can come. It's optional, but probably in the case of the younger guys it's "optional". Teahen and Viciedo should be there 5000x before Alexei, but I'm siiked that he's still taking the time in the offseason to get better.

2007 SAAB 9-3 60th Anniversary Edition I wouldn't trade it for an A4, 3 Series, or any other of the competition's offering in it's class type. I think I'll have a SAAB in my garage until I'm too senile to drive anymore. I'll also keep a mental note that GM nearly axed the brand a year ago, and will note that when it comes time to buy another car for myself or when I have a family and kids. One thing about it is I may as well replace the wheels with ice skates during the winter. For that reason I'm playing around with the idea of trading it in for a2008 SAAB 9-3 Turbo-X . These were also limited edition but I want it ohsobad, and it's got all wheel drive. I'll assess that possibility when I get my license back though.

I love that the Sox do this with their young guys.

I was telling anyone who would listen that Seattle would win that one. A combination of New Orleans' injuries, underperformances by reigning Super Bowl winners the following year (not named the Patriots), the overall parity in the league this year, going out west to play at Qwest Field, and really, just probably taking the Seahawks lightly was as sure a bet as I could imagine for Seattle. I don't gamble, but that game made me wish I did. Lots of unrealized profit would have been had on Saturday. I didn't post any picks for last week but here is what I had: Seahawks Packers Colts Ravens I felt good about all of them. I thought Peyton would manage to overcome his team's injuries. Here is who I tentatively have this week: Patriots over Jets Ravens over Steelers* Seahawks over Bears* Packers over Falcons I'm comfortable with Packers and Patriots taking care of things (GB/NE is my Super Bowl pick going into the postseason). *I still have to ruminate a bit over CHI/SEA and PIT/BAL. Chicago *should* win, but their bye week and general history have me uncertain. Seattle probably thinks it could beat anyone at the moment. I may flip on this one yet. PIT/BAL could simply go either way. Ben Roethlisberger is a piece of s*** human being so I'd like to see Ravens pull it off (and I think BAL would give a better game against NE), but I'm still torn on this one.
