2010 World Series: Rangers vs. Giants
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Brian's topic in The Diamond Club
Other than their cool ballpark, theres nothing exciting about the Rangers. Even then, the Giants have probably the sweetest venue in the game. The Giants also have a roster I can really like, and also Juan Uribe. When I held tickets, games against Texas (to me) were in the same category as games against KC and Baltimore. When I watch the Sox on tv next year, games against Texas will be in the same category as games against KC and Baltimore (even if they somehow manage to beat the Giants). My sincerest thanks to the Rangers for putting a damper on the Yankees next World Series berth, but it's time to get taken by the Giants. You're boring. I also hope Cliff Lee gets demolished. It was a real nice gesture on the Yankees part to loan them their pitcher. Giants in 5 -

/\ Sometime down the line I do actually kind of see AJ returning to coach or manage in some capacity. -
Doc wasn't his sharpest, but Charlie Manuel says he hurt his groin early in the game. Btw, anyone notice what looked to be an entire section in the left field upper tank either covered by green tarp or empty? I have a hard time believing the place wasn't sold out, and have no idea why they wouldn't make the entire place available during the NLCS...

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) Eh? Until Edwin can prove to be somewhat consistent I'd say it's a pretty big drop off. We have no f***in clue what we'd get from Edwin through a full year. The same would need to be said, probably tenfold, for Sale. The one good half-year out of the pen doesn't even mean he'll see the same success in a relief role next year- let alone thrive as a starter.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 05:20 AM) I assume this is sarcasm? He was in the minors for less than a season before being brought up. Yes. My point is Beckham pretty much went from Georgia to the White Sox. The minors were pretty much a formality in his case. Thats why Morel (he of the same draft year) would qualify, and not Beckham.

I think I've come to the conclusion that I like seeing postseason baseball in NY. I hate the hell out of the Yanks but for the time being I'll forego parity (Texas f***ing Rangers in the ALCS, really?) and soak the end of the dynasty I grew up with up while it lasts, cause I don't give it more than two, maybe three years. A big part of why I wasn't fond of NY was the messy blowjob that ESPN makes a scene out of giving, but then I realized that I don't watch that s***, and cartoon network is a more legit source of sports information. It will be even more ridiculous if Cliff Lee has a hand in things and then winds up in the Bronx next year. That is really discouraging to me and sits on par with steroid era garbage.

With the remarkable amount of time Beckham spent wallowing in the farm he should be disqualified. Beckham is a product of Georgia. Or Beckham. Home grown talent infers guys more like Morel IMO. Sale is DQ'd also. I also think Sale will end up disappointing a lot of people over here in the long run. Well maybe not the long run. May at latest is when I expect it.

White Sox in win mode, not rebuild
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
"view the White Sox plan for 2011 as retooling" This doesn't mean he wants to land A-Rod, does it? -
It would be great to see him back on an Andruw Jones type deal. Can see him retiring before something like that happens.

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Speaking from the gut, I'd rather see the Sox use the kind of money that Crawford would command differently. Dunn has been mentioned, Konerko can be signed, etc. He's a great ballplayer, no doubt, there is just something about him getting a wtf contract that doesn't sit right with me. I'd love to have had Soriano sign here as a FA coming out of Washington too. I think I prefer the current method of doing things, flawed as it may be. I'll be content with the Mets, Cubs, Yankees, and Red Sox throwing their wallets at free agents. I know there are posters here who probably got excited to see this thread when it popped up, I just don't see it. If he comes here and proves me wrong I'll be happy and good for the squad. Out of thin air I've also thought of him as an injury candidate as well. Again, no facts- just gut. -
If the Sox don't re-sign Konerko...
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Oh yeah, quicker than you would believe, no rubber. As for advertising it? I'm torn but one could reasonably come to the conclusion that I'm not pristine anymore if I diddled Jessica Alba. I would certainly advertise that part of it (doing her), maybe even dropping a few bucks for some airtime during the super bowl or looking into billboards near traffic-heavy expressways around the world. -

So sad to learn that Jessica Alba has herpes. She's in my top 3. -
I long for the day that the Sox look past the fact that Boras is a vermin and work with him. Its a fact of business that sometimes you need to deal with scum. Grin and bear it.

Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I guess I should have clarified my position a bit more. Ozzie has faults that I'm certainly not happy about. To heave a significant share of the blame for the Sox remarkable ineptitude against their own division (The KC and earlier on, Cleveland struggles are 100 times more frustrating than losing to a playoff bound Twins team) is unfair. I'm not even remotely suggesting that the manager goes blameless. I'll rail on the s***ty play on the field before I go after the coaching staff. These aren't infants, they're grown men that get paid a lot of money to utilize their talent to play the game. I bring the front office into the discussion because if the players *do* need constant prodding and reminders to perform (which is what I'm concluding from the responses) then mistakes were made in the construction of the roster. I won't shout about that too much either. My skepticism towards this team could probably be divided as 15% to the front office, 15% to the coaching staff, and 70% to the guys on the field- you know, those who have the most direct say-so in the outcome of a game. -
I think Hahn is the guy I'd want taking over if and when Kenny decides to move on. I'd be sorry to see him leave for any team.

Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He can scribble love poems about the Twins on lineup cards for all I care. I'm not a subscriber to the theory that quotes by the manager printed in the sports section or the (admittedly delirious) ramblings of the tv play by play man have a direct effect on whether or not your hitters can hit their pitchers and your pitchers can be effective against their hitters. -

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 07:24 AM) The manager failed us too No, the guys playing the game failed us, and if a manager, hitting coach, or pitching coach had any significant role in it then it was the general manager who failed because his 25 man roster lacked balls and a spine. -

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:39 AM) that was Crain in relieve of Liriano striking out both Konerko and Manny I think. That was brutal. Really made the last White Sox fan jump off the Manny bandwagon afterwards. No, I think the instance you're referring to may have happened again during a later game, but this slider that Liriano threw to the both of them ended up nearly behind their calves and they were both taking rips at, and Paulie was finished off in 3 pitches to end the threat. Manny wasn't here yet. I'm not faulting you though, it's really easy to get your bases loaded with one or none out and the heart of the order due up against the Twins failures mixed up. -
Who are you backing and why.
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to MattZakrowski's topic in The Diamond Club
Phillies- secondary rooting interest. followed by, in order: Giants- This team has Juan Uribe. Reds- Lot of fun to watch. Nice to see them back in October. Bonus of additional Cub fan heartache if Dusty/division rival are triumphant. Braves- Bobby Cox, great city. I've always enjoyed watching the Braves. I like hearing their lil tomahawk chop thing in October. Rangers- Tallest midget? Variety is the spice of life, and the AL entries this year other than Texas are nothing new. Twins- Thome is probably the only reason I don't want the Yankees to humiliate them in a shameful 3 game sweep, that and perhaps peace of mind that the Sox got had by a great team. Rays- Other than having a place within driving distance of the Trop, I've grown tired of the passionate blowjob ESPN gives this team. The Trop is as wretched as it gets when it comes to ballparks. Yankees- Why do they need this again? I want to avoid the extended Steinbrenner memorial that is bound to happen when they advance to the WS, because they will. -
The Phillies are my secondary rooting interest, but this is a really fun Reds team.

Glad to see Bobby Cox finish things up with a playoff berth. Too bad for him that Juan Uribe has a say in matters.

I think one of the lasting memories of this season for me will be Liriano taking care of Quentin and Konerko with the bases loaded to end the inning. It was his "wtf slider" that resolved his matters IIRC. -
I'm bummed to see Nancy go. After I dropped my split season package I would try to attend games during the day if I could just because her playing added a lot to the experience for me. I'm glad they're finding a replacement, but those are some big shoes to fill. Great that they're keeping an organist though.

AND THAT'S YET ANOTHER SOX WINNER / SAWX LOSER!!!

Baseball games that result in Red Sox losses are always pleasing to me.
