  1. They touched on the 2003 Marlins via the shameful Cubs. A lot of Yankee/Sawks/Cubs coverage, but I enjoyed watching it. I hope it gets re-aired so I can sit down and catch the whole thing.
  2. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 12:57 AM) Ozzie said he doesn't order retaliations at all anymore. That's up to the players to protect each other. He said he didn't want to get in trouble, but if a teammate feels that another teammate was hit intentionally, and wants to order a hit, then he's all for it. The only time when a hit was ordered by another player was when Konerko got hit by the Twins. And Ozzie amongst others on this team compliment the Twins so much on how great they are. I didn't hear much of "We're a great team, we can beat them." It was more like "They're a great team. I told everyone in Spring Training. Oh yeah, we're in first now, but the Twins are coming." It was like they conceded the division before they got their asses handed to them. And PK was as much of a factor in that as Ozzie. What the media reports (and we hear) and what really goes on and is said in a clubhouse by the manager to his players are two different things. I don't need to hear him fuss about it through the media to know that he gets pissed off when the Sox have a hit batsmen everyday. He doesn't, and shouldn't publicly announce that he'll be throwing at the opposing team. That would be stupid. The pitchers know whats up and what he would like to see them do. As for the Twins stuff, I don't have a problem with that at all. They're good and they take the division more often than not so why would anyone care to hear anything said otherwise? At the end of the day the manager and the players want to win against them, probably more than against another team. Hawk does fellate them verbally, but again, they're good and it shouldn't change the effort put in by the team to beat them.
  3. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) We need someone who would order for a retaliation when one of our get hit. We need someone who won't take getting our asses handed to them. And we need someone who will b****slap someone for complimenting the Twins on how great they are. BTW, Danks will be traded first. He'll demand more money and will be a pain to sign. Not saying you're wrong at all, because the offseason warrants anything, but- I remember Ozzie stepping into s*** after he was especially vocal about retaliation. I think his feelings on this matter were clear to the point that umpires may have shat, so to speak, on his parade by throwing out warnings early on. Guillen isn't broke but getting fined for thousands of dollars probably doesn't and shouldn't sit well with him. The uber-informative media (which as much as I'd like to rip, I can't because they're simply doing their job) lets everyone know the scent of Corky Miller's farts, so Guillen talking about how much better a Twins hitter would look with a fastball (not from MB) on his torso would probably make headlines in Bolivia, or Saturn . I think his message was made clear when (I can't recall his name off the top of my head) ran out of vagisil and couldn't quite locate a hitter and ended up the f*** off this team. I don't need to read it in the Tribune to know that Ozzie doesn't like his guys getting hit. Similarly, ANY manager or coach is going to kiss the ass of the team that beats their team to win the division. What can one possibly do or say in such a situation? Final standings speak for themselves.
  4. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) Honestly, I expect Danks to be dealt for a bat. I love both of the younger starters, but I see Floyd being moved before Danks, with the latter getting an extension. If one of the two were to be moved I'd certainly rather see it happen like that. The return should be nothing less than a player who contributes and makes the Sox a better club at once, nothing less. In a perfect world Danks, Peavy, Jackson, Buehrle, Floyd- that is a rotation that implies the team is serious about winning. This is of course assuming someone's nose, eye, or pitching arm doesn't randomly detatch (Peavy), no hitters and perfect games are kept to minimum (Buehrle), and others don't get traded for the sake of being traded just because (Jackson). I get the feeling that if Konerko wants to stay here, he will, payroll be damned. Reinsdorf will do that for this guy. Konerko's statement today was nothing more than a canned statement that pretty much any good ballplayer stepping into free agency says. I hope he's back for 2 years/reasonable $$$
  5. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 07:51 PM) THE TANK GOES YARD! no, the yard goes tank.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) I'm skeptical about how "good" of a return we could get on MB to be honest. I kind of feel he's more valuable to us than what we could expect back. Agreed. ...although imagine what he would do to us in a Twins uniform.
  7. Nice catch, CQ. Don't wreck yourself... I get that Morel should be playing 3rd, but with Paulie and Manny sitting, Viciedo should have at least DHd.
  8. My gut feeling is he says that he intends to test the market but would love to be back.
  9. Score reporting that Ozzie met with Kenny and Jerry seperately, and he's saying he will be returning next year. Hopefully this s***show is behind us.
  10. The Phillies and Braves have usually been my 2. and 2a. to the Sox. My family has a place in Fl about a 30 min. drive from that s***hole, the Trop, so I guess they (Rays) would be my AL interest by default. The West has a fun story in the Rangers. I would pull for the Twins for a number of reasons. They're well run and they simply own the White Sox. Jim Thome. They did it without their MVP. They did it NOT playing in their clown tent dome. I want the Yankees to fall on their face more than I want the Twins to do so. That said, any of the NL entrants, the Rays, and perhaps the Rangers just for the sake of novelty would recieve my support before the Twins. I just really don't want NY to repeat.
  11. So many have been vocal over the years about improving draft position the second it becomes apparent that the Sox aren't going anywhere. Here you go. (not disagreeing with that stance at all). The best adjective I have to describe this team since the Orioles and Twins series after the All Star Break is frustrating. That said, hoping for failure (higher draft position) and ripping on the "meh" attitude this team seemingly has adopted as of late don't go hand in hand. You can't do both. Now that the burden of making the playoffs is gone, relief and indifference are the words that come to mind, but I'll still watch or listen to games because I know come wintertime I'll be craving Sox baseball. I care about the Hawks and hockey in general as much as I care about causes and effects of chlamydia in albino penguins, and both the Bulls and Bears are going nowhere in a hurry- but the latter two ought to provide (barely) sufficient warmth for my sports hibernation season.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 12:11 PM) Sure. It's not exactly a behavior that directly threatens anyone's life. Willie Harris?
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) 2nd most competent hitter the last 2 weeks? LOL. Manny has 1 hit with RISP in a White Sox uniform. He has fanned a few times, popped up to SS. Grounded out to SS with 0 out not advancing the runner. True. He fits right in with the rest of our team and thusly should be re-signed for the sake of consistency. Other moves could have been made as early as this past winter and they weren't. I like Thome, but I don't think he'd be anything other than what he was in '09. He's gotten a lot more rest with the Twins and that has a lot to do with what he's doing for them now. I don't think he would have that benefit here. Thome aside, there were other DH options, and none of them happened, not even at the trade deadline. So, in the dying gasps of the season Manny was brought in. I've always been a fan of Manny, even while he played for my least favorite team, The Sawks. He cheated- just as an assuredly high percentage of other MLBers did. That was in the past, and this is now. I was happy to see him acquired as a last-ditch effort to save this season. It would have been wrong to think of him as a solution to the numerous holes the team had, especially with him sitting on his ass for a good time before he got here. He's getting paid a pretty penny for his services, but I'm not paying him, Jerry is. This year. The 4 million he gets isn't going to financially handcuff the franchise for years to come, let alone next season. If anything, it shows me that Reinsdorf is willing to water his plant when it needs it, no matter how late in the day it is. I don't like dopers because it's a phony way to break records, but it's too late to worry about that now- the damage is done. Some still exist, presumably via the HGH route. I have faith that Manny isn't one of those because we've seen how he hits with some help, and that isn't how he's hitting now. Not too long ago I could never like a ballplayer even if there were whispers about him doping. Now that it's evident that a good portion of players did this, I've become more forgiving- largely because of the new testing policy.
  14. The King is awesome. Wendy's has better food, but BK commercials are great. My favorite fast food commercial, even though he (King) only makes a cameo at the very end. I almost never eat fast food though.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) Called Quentin's at-bat "gutless and feminine" "Gutless and feminine" sounds like a phrase a Jim Rome caller might use to describe something. If thats anything how this call went I'm sad that I missed it. Really though, it would be glorious if he (Q) got out of this rut for the next few weeks or so. It would be like adding a September call-up impact bat that is playoff eligible.
  16. I've always been of the opinion that Teahen should bat lower in the order than he usually seems to. Why don't you just have Nick Swisher's cardboard cutout bat after Manny?
  17. Thanks for that win, now forget the f*** about it and pretend that the Red Sox talked s*** about your pet goldfish.
  18. What the hell kind of microphone is DJ talking into right now?
  19. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 10:13 AM) If Quentin could do anything resembling his 2008 self, there could be some real trouble a a brewing offensively. The frustrating part of this is that he did at one point resemble 2008 Carlos.
  20. Nice job Rios. I appreciate everything Garcia has done for this team this year, but get all the run support you can today.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) Hey I resemble that remark. I'm 100% and it was said out of love.
  22. Let LA keep the fan-wearing dreadwig clownery as it's own little thing. Its not as bad as Cub fans wearing Karate apparel to "celebrate" Fukudome, but it's been done once and that's quite enough.
